The thing is for a few years I had a hack for audible. At the start I got one of those affiliate links, so got my first month free. Then because at the time I had amazon prime, I got an extra credit. So I started off with 2 free credits. I got my 2 books and then once I read them, I returned them and got those 2 credits back. Now after I subscribed and got the 2 books I had actually ubsubscribed. So when I subscribed again, for some reason I got another free credit. So along with the 2 I got, I had 3 now. So I did this read and return method for a while. Only now am I having a hard time even being able to subscribe to audible. It won't accept my in date card so if anyone knows why please let me know. Thnx 😊

I've been doing it for years. I used to live in America and got a library card. But 10 years on I can still use my American library card in Ireland so the great thing is it's not geoblocked if you use your American library card in Europe. I tend to buy audiobooks that are over 20 hours long from audible because it will just take me too long to get through the whole thing and it would mean I would have to constantly keep renewing the book and sometimes you have to wait to be able to get the book re assigned to you again as other people are waiting. The issue with Libby is that it only allows you to borrow for between 7 to 21 days and if the book is very long, that may not be enough time. That's when purchasing the book is better. But it is great for books that are around 10 hours long.

This video’s title is misleading. It’s about borrowing audiobooks, not getting them to keep. Even audible without an app like Libation really doesn’t let you own books as they are tired to your account. To truly own audiobooks, you need to buy them on CD or download and decrypt them . Trust me, my Amazon account, which was linked to my audible account, was hacked. I lost access to all digital content on both platforms. Well, except for the ebooks and audiobooks that I de-drm’ed.

A lot of the team behind The Wire went on to do shows like Treme and Bosch, both are well worth your time. Don't be put off by Bosch's advertising, here in the UK the adverts make it seem like a procedural but it is one of the closest things to The Wire I've seen in terms of being a gritty, realistic, smart and political TV program with a lot of heart and a canny head.

Yeah, although the least of my favorites of the DT series ( although that is said tongue in cheek because the series is just insane, and this book is still amazing in its own) it was still an important installment to the driving of the story… I can’t remember offhand, but I believe the Dixie Pig sequence starts at the end of Song of Susannah.. that shit was batshit crazy man lol!!!.. Click bait title. You are not getting Audible books. You are getting free audio books via the local library via Overdrive/Libby subscribed services. I have used the Overdrive service for about two decades. Plus, I have a card to one of the top ten libraries in the country. A more realistic estimate is that Audible has 100% of the available audiobooks. My library has only about 80 to 90%. This is especially true of books series that are older than 7 to ten years ago. Plus a library may not elect to include an audio books due to budget limitations. Finally, Libby has significant design flaws when it comes to requesting books that your library may not initially choose to carry. But, for the price, these short comings worth putting up with for the savings of an Audible subscription.

You need to watch the 1943 documentary "Target for Today". It'll answer all of your questions about the Bombs, what a 'salvo' is, and everything that went into an 8th AF Heavy Bombing mission, the "Maximum Effort".

One of my all time favorites. Two stories about Apocalypse Now: I was born in Saigon in 71 to a Vietnamese mom and G.i. Dad. Raised in a house of 15 refugees in the Midwest. Whenever one of the adults in the house went to see a flick to soak up American culture they dragged my little ass with them. So I seen a lot of flicks from 77 to 82. When Deer Hunter came out one of my uncles dragged me along when he went to see it. Afterwards, during the end credits, my uncle bring Vietnamese, he was approached by two white vets and they spoke cordially for a few minutes while I stood at my uncle’s pantlegs. While they spoke I was mystified by a poster on the back wall of the theater of a bald guys head coming out of darkness. It was a poster for the upcoming Apocalypse Now, a movie I would watch countless times through the rest of my childhood and teen years into my twenties and the rest of my life. Fast forward to 2001 when the Redux version is released. It’s been out for a couple weeks and I know nobody is going to see it because people are tasteless and so on one Thursday night I know I better go see it on the big screen since it will most likely leave the theater to fit in Fridays new slate of flicks. I go see it on the night’s last showing and when I walked in the end credits of the previous showing was still rolling and there was about fifteen men all standing at their seats and just viewing the credits in silence. They were Vietnam veteran aged and by their expressions they looked they just had their minds blown. With glee I plopped myself into a seat and prepared to get my own mind blown, and boy did it deliver, remastered, remixed, perhaps the most impressive display of raw mastery of direction I ever witnessed in a multiplex.

10:06 you have to understand those jackets weren’t about style, b-17’s weren’t pressurized had open windows and were only heated at the very front at operational altitude it would be -50 F which would freeze you’re skin in moments. The sheepskin lined jackets worn by the most of the crew kept them from freezing. The guys in the back( anything behind the radio room) wore electrically heated suits and gloves because they were exposed to the worst cold. As for the CGI as I’m typing this I believe there is only 6 airworthy b-17’s left and only 1 of those is a b-17f as these guys would have been flying in mid 1943 the rest are g models not introduced until 1944 and very noticeably different in appearance. So I can forgive the cgi even when it’s a bit clunky from time to time.

Well the "sterotypical accent" is just time accurate, and like 99% of the world had no clue about the camps until later in the war. So NOBODY in america fought agianst those horror with any knowledge.

We support the library through our taxes. So not really "totally" free but yes, the library is a great resource which we should leverage to its fullest, including of course, audio books. 🎉

When I signed up for audible, (just to get one specific book), I didn't realize I wasn't going to be able to download it. ...so basically, always have to have internet access and always have to maintain a membership. I would not have joined if I had realized. My bad, I needed to research more, but honestly it never even occurred to me that I wasn't purchasing, just renting. Thanks for giving me the push I needed to cancel my membership.
