Bike Thieves Know this about SRAM AXS!
Being a former ASE certified technician i didn't find any career advantage too it. Going through GM training and certification did more for progression.
OEM training is by far the most valuable when you are with a dealer, how long did you stay with GM for?
@theEVO1VEDMechanic I was at the Chevrolet dealership for 4 years and then the Buick dealership for 2 years. I got more GM Training at the Buick dealership because they needed a technician trained to satisfy for Best in Class. I took every coarse I could. Paid for training. Why not? The other technicians would rather sit at the shop and wait for something to come in the door not getting paid.
From my own experience ASE certifications aren't worth the paper they're printed on. You have very valid and sound arguments but, my experience paints a different picture. Let me explain: I took auto shop in high school, went to UNOH, majored in Auto, Diesel, and Alternative Fuels, That's 2 full associate degrees and a certificate in about 30 months time, graduated with excellent attendance, GPA well over 3.5, bla bla bla... In order to graduate UNOH required you to attempt to take 2 ASE tests, anything you want, just try. I quickly found out that nobody checked to see if you had taken the tests before. So I took 2 tests at every opportunity. I graduated with 2 associates degrees, a certificate, and I believe 6 or 8 ASE certifications. I graduated in March of 2010 and started applying for work. I quickly found out that all of my qualifications were deemed about worthless by most dealers. Why? Well about 6 months prior to me graduating, GM/Chrysler got the bailout money from the government. As a condition of the bailout, the government stepped in and said any dealer that isn't generating "X" amount of revenue, you have to cut the ties with that dealer. This drove many small dealers out of business. Which by extension caused the mechanics at those dealers to go out and look for new jobs at the same time that I was. Every time I would talk with a service manager I was met with essentially the same statement, "Why would I hire you when I can go get someone with 5 years experience, all the tools, and all the factory training?" The most generous offer I could find was POSSIBLY a lube rack opening 6 months from now making $7.50 an hour. I had no issue working my way up from the bottom but, at that time I could have made that at McDonalds and started the same day... I ended up getting into industrial maintenance where you are paid by the hour and can tear down a 7 figure machine with about $300-$500 worth of tools. The auto repair industry is broken, wages haven't kept up with shop labor rates, tool costs are nuts, nobody is paid to diagnose only to swap parts. Then dealers turn around and wonder why they they only get warranty work and can't find help anymore. So in my book, factory training/experience goes a lot further than "showing commitment" or any ASE ever will at the dealer level.
I 100% agree that factory training is worth more, I tried to get sent as often as they would let me go. The industry is broken, I think there are massive shifts coming especially with the lack of techs and D2C vehicles becoming more popular. It might be the era of the brand specific indy shop…
My experience at 3 different German dealership. ASE were only recommended to get the discount from the insurance for the dealership, be the Tier 1 dealership that was recommended for tow vehicles. Only 25% of the tech force was needed for that endorsement. It only proves you can take tests not if you know how to perform diagnosis and repairs following a flow chart.
That is a great point! I didn’t even think about the dealer insurance going down!
Most OEM's now require ASE certs in addition to the factory training. Used to not be that way speaking as 40+ year technician. ASE was designed for independent shops to show their techs had at least some knowledge and OEM had their own certifications. But the tentacles of ASE have become far reaching and the OE's bought into it for a reason of which I am unaware. ASE probably paid off the OE's. ASE is garbage IMO. During my career I obtained Master certs from GM, GMC, Isuzu, Hyundai and ASE. ASE is nothing but a money grab. There is no training involved with the program, the questions are ambiguous and they don't tell you the minimum score you need to pass. If they can dream up a new test for any category, they institute it. From parts counter to ambulance repair to service advisor, they have designed a test/certification for us. I feel so much better knowing they care /s
The ASE testing was super easy, I think for someone with zero experience they could be valuable but for us OEM/Dealer guys it’s just an extra piece of paper and leverage for a raise. I had a convo about ICAR recently with someone and I’m doing a video about that soon with lots of juicy info that shouldn’t have been shared
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic It's actually a requirement to become Master Certified at GM. There is no raise associated with ASE certs unless you are entry level and the dealership incentivizes you to take them, but to advance you must have them. If you want to receive/retain Master GM status it requires the ASE Master cert also. There are some perks for Master Certified GM, I've been on GM sponsored trips, received various prizes, watches and gold rings, banquets, etc., but a lot of techs got burned when GM filed bankruptcy and canceled the programs. I smelled it coming and cashed out $1500 for Bass Pro gift certificates. If you did not cash out your earnings, you lost them. I have 9 diamonds in my GM ring, they added one each year you renewed Master Certified before they killed the program at bankruptcy. IMO ASE is good for inexperienced techs but once you pass them your continued experience in the field should suffice. For any newbies out there the ASE student (entry level) certs are a good deal and a great price if you are in a degree program at college. Passing these gives you one year credit towards experience, they are easy, you pay one fee and take them multiple times. I highly recommend to our students to go this route as the degree also gives you one year experience. So with the degree and the entry level courses passed you negate the two year requirement for the regular ASE. Best/
If it gets you paid higher for having them then yes.
Absolutely agree!
Are you going to take any ASE tests this year?
Walmart isn't buying Specialized.
'A little bit different, but.. kinda the same' ->Didn't Seth trademark that already?
Elon Musk can't code his way out of a wet paper bag. He's a real life Lex Luthor.
My Actbest "Knight" bike is very similar in fact it looks exactly the same (hmm) I did have the bolt loosen from vibration and the fender moved side by side, I seriously tightened the bolt then added zip ties for extra support but now after seeing this video I will re engineer the mount, Thanks for alerting us to this issue,
where is the links ?
What size is this bike me what’s the difference from the stinky and the Dulux ?
I dont disagree but I also would rather wait until a forensic investigator puts all of the evidence together and releases a report before making any definitive statements about anything
Thermal runaway... dude shot himself for not driving a Hemi!
calling it an 'explosion' is a big word, i'd rather be inclined to call it a 'deflagration'. Gasoline & fireworks is what Michael bay uses to fake an explosion in a movie.
I had to look that up, and it is now added to my vocabulary! That is more accurate for sure! I had no idea that is how they do it in the film industry, it now makes sense why there are so many sparks
Thanks for all your information. It seems that this guy pulled up in front of the Trump building with the Tesla Cyber Truck, probably set a timer up to blow up the explosives in the trunk of the vehicle, and then committed suicide and shot himself. More and likely this was a pissed off person against both Trump and Musk. I could be completely wrong, but it sure looks that way. Thanks for explaining what Telemetry provides us. Take Care.
Thank you so much for watching!
Great video! I agree that it wasn't Tesla's fault. Like you, I look at the science behind the explosion and you clarified it perfectly. The hype came from the fact it happened outside a Trump building.
100%! Thank you for watching!
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic 👍.
Yess.... Regulations! ❤
Yes!!
Musk and his fanboys are quick to turn the tragic events in Las Vegas into a marketing opportunity and it didn't take Musk long to come out with "Worst Vehicle by the National Association Of Terrorist Car Bombers". While others might be more concerned with trying to understand what motivated the Trump supporting active-duty Army soldier to do what he did. The reality is that with a little thought and some preparation the CyberTruck has all the elements that could very much make it the go-to vehicle for terrorist.
A vehicle is the most dangerous weapon out there. Anybody can go buy a 6,000lb truck or SUV and nobody would ever suspect a thing if that vehicle decided to turn into a crowd until it was too late. I’ve known other mechanics who have been killed just by cars falling off lifts, or people on dealership lots not paying attention.
No way caused by the battery. The battery is not in the bed.
What?
Nothing to do with the battery. Thermal runaway can not create enough heat to even start smoking before the system detects it and opens the high voltage contactors which disables propulsion. Truck drove in and 15 seconds later, boom. Not to mention the truck bed being fully intact and the battery is below the body and explosion went up and out of the back.
Exactly! All the media had to do was look at any EV fire or runaway and it’s clear.
Did you see any evidence of a fire that burned so hot and long enough to burn a man beyond recognition but not his identification or passport or even the car?
I have gone down that rabbit hole trying to figure that part out too. I don’t know what to believe anymore, all I can really speak to is how an EV battery would fail and what it would do.
@Ginger-g8j A lithium fire would have done that if the battery had ignited. That is why airlines do not transport them.
It wasn't people speculating it was the HV battery, it was the media alluding to it. There are always the going to be the idiots saying Tesla will start on fire sooner or later. Never mind ICE vehicles start on fire at a much higher percentage rate.
One day the media loves EV, the next they blame them for every bad thing to ever happen. It’s WILD!
your so late on your news. buddy. what was the point of this video after we know it was fireworks + gas.
I heard that, it’s crazy that it didn’t do more damage
President Musk will get to the bottom of this.
are you just repeating what the mainstream said? wake up sheep
Right!
No he won't if one of his products is involved.
If you think it was the battery, your head is in the ground.
@@jason-ed1uo It was obviously not the battery. But the batteries could have ignited from the heat. Fortunately they didn't and that was just dumb luck.
They have already said it was improvised explosives.
Propane tanks and fireworks right?
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic Something like that. Whatever it was didn't have a lot of power fortunately.
@@737mechanic Yes, it was so weak it just removed this military idiot from the gene pool. Not even a scratch on the doors of the Great Trump tower. Thx Elon!
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic racing fuel, camping fuel, fireworks
Apparently the intention was not to do harm. If it was full of explosives the damage would have been as bad as Oklahoma bomb back in 1995.
I am no expert by any means, but watching the few crappy video clips of the explosion, I'd say it was caused by some explosive material in the truck cabin. I did not notice any smoke/flames emitting from the underbelly of the vehicle. I can understand the knee jerk reaction from EV haters blaming the battery pack.
Yeah the video clips were not good quality and everyone was making up their own narrative!
Agreed. Not only EV haters but Musk haters.
come on I think you can qualify generally as a automotive expert. Haven't watched this video yet and don't know much about the explosion, but I did see a quick clip of it, I wasn't really considering that as a battery explosion. Not so much that I know the difference between different types of explosions, but it seems too strange that a this would happen, I don't know of any other cyber truck explosion, and why right where it happened.
I saw a bunch of people on IG and other platforms talking about how it’s possible the battery was used as the ignition or was the main cause of the explosion so I figured I’d cover why that is in no way possible given the info that Tesla released and how it looked in the video. I guess the cat is out of the bag that I’ve been using the channel to cover my hobby instead of what I actually do for a living, there is a lot of crossover though and it was kinda fun to talk cars on camera
Maybe..maybe... The battery was actually very low on charge... Maybe almost depleted? So , the battery does not explode.❤
Definitely agree that it wasn’t a battery failure but always look forward to the “official” report
"Cheetos and nail polish" Are you sure it's not Doritos and hand sanitizer???
Close HAHA! It hits a bit higher up into the nostrils like acetone and we miss the cumin note all together in exchange for a sharp cheddar.
“WBO” 🤣
I think they call it “visualizing your end result” LMAO 😂
How about Loctite??
Always! Unfortunately loctite doesn't help when a bolt snaps like in this case.
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic Interesting. I have basically the same bike for about a year, branded Wildeway and I didn't use loctite and that bolt has never loosened and the light itself is rock solid, I can't move it with at all with my hand. I can adjust it pointing up or down and it stays in place. It's difficult to see how the bolt could snap. There's no real pressure on it. Maybe it loosened then spun around the tire then snapped, but to just snap by itself seems highly unlikely. They had a Black Friday sale at $649, no tax, no shipping. The 48v, 32a battery itself sells for more in some places.
I have the valve stems and caps, rotor bolts and have used the hydraulic hose, needles, olives and installation tool. Just bought a headset press from them too. I run snail rotors which are a knock off of Hope floating rotors , and Chinese pads on both my bikes with zero issues at all. Yep, some of the Temu stuff is junk, but then again I have had 2 made in the USA bikes that both failed.
I have been considering those rotors since I burn my real Hope ones up so often! Might have to do another order!
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic I think I got my Snail rotors on eBay actually. I have 3 sets of them and they are fine. Can't share pics here but I have pink, gold and purple. People have no idea that they are cheapos from China. Forgot that my chainrings are also Chinese. Haven't folded them or had any issues and one is on my SS.
Zelenski?
SHHHHHHH!!!
Thanks for the tip. I was looking for the slightest reason to make my bike look badass and you've given me a good one. The fender is gone and the light remounted with a lock washer thrown on. Might remove the rear fender too cause l don't cross rivers or ride in the rain.
Rear fender is kinda nice for the tires kicking up rocks at the back of your head, I have a couple bikes without and always find little bits of sand in my hair or the odd rock tagging me LOL
In 2018 I bought an EZMotion Mountain E-bike for $5k. It was a great bike until it wasn’t. This company pulled out of North America when Covid hit . Now wasn’t that the biggest mistake ever ! My battery or controller died and the dealer in Canada couldn’t fix a bent nail . New battery was $800 . I sent the battery case/controller to a battery rebuild shop in NY . Turned out that all components were proprietary and they couldn’t fix it . I gave away the bike .
That is definitely a bummer, I have heard that some of these companies are just throwing things out there with no real long term support.
Zelensky from Temu sorry i had to say it 😂🤣
Mom: "We have Zelenski at home"...
I don't really feel the market will be driven by $1000 bicycles. I think it will be driven by more affordable utilitarian bikes and ebikes. Normal people want to commute, go shopping, visit friends etc They want reasonably priced insurance for their reasonably priced bikes. They want to buy reasonably priced, non proprietary parts which are easy to get hold of and easy to fit. While major manufacturers want none of this (because it will reduce their profitability) I think the consumer market will force them to adjust. If they don't, they will simply go out of business.
their website reads "pros closet is back". Maybe they just sold off the name to somebody else?
Chinese-American author Stanley Chao wrote a book called Doing Business in China that explained how companies can change brand names and continue business without a burp. Americans cannot bring any legal claims in the china system. The made up jumble of letters brand names can change from the same location and seller. I guess the lesson is to stick with more reputable brands with years long track record of quality control. Thank you for bringing this news. We need to get the word out
Nice job on the video! Let's ride soon.
Riding Dove Valley this weekend if you are down?
Is the brand santa monica ebikes cheap bikes ????
I started reading the reviews of even the highest rated E-bikes, but reading the level 1 comments. That's where you learn of dangerous issues, in this bike's case, hazards
That is the best way to research, I feel like that’s where you really get the honest truth.
it's funny you say it's a "cheapy bike" because ENGWE is almost seen and/or talked about as a name brand any more lol. i always saw it as a knock-off bike, but even the "name brands" look like knock-off names to me as well so it's hard to really know what's what ESPECIALLY with how many there are on both sides, sadly, i'm not the only one from the amount of reddit-ers asking about the same stuff. me personally, i went for a TT-EBIKE 3000w, yes, it's definitely an iffy branded bike. some things specs wise also don't add up, but it's what i can afford and what actually deals with my weight PLUS the hills in my area. BUT i'm also NOT a typical mountain biker, i have never trusted even actual regular mountain bikes to handle what i could do on a trail nor the prices to be fixing the slightest bent thing and expensive things like rims constantly... i only use bikes as a means of transportation for the most part. luckily, i'm not the only one like that and many who do aim for these cheap-o bikes, that's why they do it. we're not someone who even makes 20k-25k a year if we're lucky(in my case it's less than that) and need something that can deal with the roads/hills in our area's but also for those of us on the heavier side(not no measly 200-220lbs...) to get us reliably to point A to point B. but that being said, i've had a LOT of bad bike experiences with all kinds of non-power bikes and know what to look for and to tweak and make it somewhat safer, especially going down hills needing to ride or pump the breaks otherwise your hitting 40-60mph on a hill then a pretty sharp turn at those speeds... not fun especially if a car is coming. but i have seen companies leave these kinds of issues like that metal fender on bikes because it makes it seem... more "premium" or even to a novice "more safer looking" when it's not. also that light thing... yeah, why i use extra Velcro straps on my ebike to make things tighter in case something does fall off and knowing what happens when wheels and spokes are blocked like that... yeah... i'm good. but my bike does have that crappy light fixture setup as well, sadly, to use it as is, you REALLY gotta crank it down(tighten it hard) after you got it aimed and everything. luckily my fenders are plastic and don't mount on like those do to the forks, but it does mount with the light at the top, but if it breaks off it's safter to a degree, but it'll still cause issues if it comes off wrong. but if i hear something odd, i instantly hard break and brace my self then inspect, not always the best way, but it's saved me more times that not so far. but overall, i do like you were able to bring this to everyone's attention and such and that's messed up the company didn't even care... sadly the company for my TT-EBIKE Chinese brand seems to care more than they do... but we'll see how far that goes... also, to the "influencer" thing, yeah... that's just everywhere man, why streamers and youtubers and so on have such a bad rap any more and majority are just in it for the money, nothing else. as long as they get their pockets lined, they don't care who get's hurt or what happens unless their at threat of losing subscribers from it then try to make it out like they didn't know and so on and blame the company or who ever else they start pointing fingers at... but i'm glad your able to be better about it and such, i'm glad that guy was not dead from that... ugh that helmet... looked like a serious faceplant... hopefully he's better though. also, you mentioned about standards and not being ok with speed limits and such, i'm the same way, i do think SAFTEY standards of how a bike is designed and setup for safety is a must for VARY obvious reasons... hell, you can have a really bad day on a non-powered bike soooo yeah. but the biggest issue i feel with all the speed and wattage rules... if your not less than 240lbs, your not able to get anything in spec with those stupid rules... i have a so called "3000w" bike because i weigh 300lbs and i'm 6'1", and most places i've lived are rarely flat ground, usually some pretty steep hills. this thing is rated to go as fast as 38mph... yeah... flat ground on one motor get's be about 16mph throttle, both motors flat ground, 26-ish throttle, pedal assist always seems to be more mph than throttle so i ignore that half the time unless using it for battery longevity use any more. but i asked the company about that before i got it and they do their test's with a 200lbs load. but honestly... speed wise, i'm pretty fine with a 25mph and less, if it's really windy and hilly roads like here... i go less for various reasons. but 16 feels plenty fast enough to me, if it's a long strait, then i don't mind going a bit faster. but sadly... with a lot of the specs on these bikes... they don't indicate a whole lot of info for people like me. as in, what it works or acts like with someone 260, 280 or even 300lbs, many people testing don't know how to test the angle of hills or grade percentages or hills PLUS a heavier set person and so on so it makes it harder to aim for anything even in 750w ranges let alone lower... again, i'm not a mountain biker who goes on gnarly jumps or terrain and so on. which, if i had a bike that i could trust to do it, i'd be down to try it for fun once in a while. but that's about it. sorry for the long comment.
I know that there are tons of people out there who are looking for affordable and reliable e-bikes, and it is a tough situation to be in when you are looking for something that works for you, even if the quality isn't perfect. I'm editing a few videos right now that break some of it down a bit, so look out for those! As for the rider, he's getting better and today he had me install a new 170mm DVO fork on one of his MTBs so I think he's coming back stronger after this. That is my hope at least!
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic yeah I'll definitely keep an eye out. Hell yeah, that's good he's getting better and it didn't push him away from them.
My guy. This is, sort of ominously, a bigger issue. And it exists at the forefront of every new product hitting the capital consumer market. Something deeply disturbing about it all, but good on you opening up the discussion. Godspeed to us all, around the globe, and may we meet reconciliation and consideration for one another and our efforts to grow, very soon.
It's great to have this conversation with everyone! I guess for me I don't do affiliate links or earn commission so at the end of the day speaking my mind costs me nothing. At worst I lose the ability to get another ebike from a brand, but if they can't even get a bike being tested and reviewed on video to work properly then it's not really a loss.
@@theEVO1VEDMechanic much love and respect
If you are halfway decent mechanic or gearhead, make your own e-bike then you will know what you put into it
I've been kicking around an E-Boardtrack Build for a LONG time now. It may have to happen!
This is the first time I’ve watched you and, guaranteed, it won’t be the last. Love your honesty and no bullshit approach!!! Research and buying through a local dealer are the best ways to go, for sure. We got lucky the first time around when we went with Lectric, based almost entirely on friend’s recommendation. Though an LBS and research, we upgraded to a pair of Velotrics and, so far so good. So, yes…good bikes and companies to be had between $1K-$2K. No need to spend more unless you’re REALLY serious about it all. Again…thanx for an excellent video!!
Thank you so much for the support! LOTS more coming! I have heard good things about both Lectric and Velotric bikes. From what I can tell the big difference is the standards and QC from the more well known brands. You pay a bit more but when they order from the factories they cut less corners and have stricter standards.
@ - My Lectric was good for over 2 years and 4000 miles with no mechanical issues at all. Given the support they enjoy on their FB pages, it’s safe to say their Quail Creek is pretty good. Before we got our Velotrics delivered in July, I learned they test their bikes to 150% of standards…and their pedigree (owners of Lime and others) is impressive. Bottom line: we love riding them every day!!
One must do himework before a purchsae that can wreck life in seconds. If anyone is looking for a stylistic bike with some power, in low-mid range price, Bigniu BGX. I am an owner, not affiliated. Inspected all whistles and bells, and seems to be a solid piece of engineering. Responsive and proper customer service., at least from my and experince of others.
Thanks for the heads up on that brand!
Some one that's honest ,,, Well done
Thank you for your support!
I had this identical problem but i fixed the problem. You need 2 brackets that prevent the bolt from getting loose and the fender remains tight . To stop the light from sliding down and enables you to set the angle of the light without it moving. Been working fine as i go over some bumpy terrain . Not hard to prevent this from happening. What they provide is not a finished way to do it. But the fix is simple . I am making a attempt to contact the seller and manufacturer with this fix. My Ebike is not this brand but very similar but mine is larger so it weighs more. You also can dump the light tighten the fender and install a better wide angle light which attaches to the handlebars , is 5 vdc rechargeable can charge your phone and give you bright light for 11 hrs. I am installing that on mine but for now i am using this light which does not light the entire street as well. Glad you did this video but it really reveals a problem but ignores the fix. I agree it's a problem but i never let my light get so loose that the fender moves.
It makes me wish I had never given tis bike to someone else so I could have caught it, it just sucks that most average consumers aren't mechanically inclined to do anything like this
