      The biggest thing is allowing the crowd input and being able to use the channel to directly interact. Most of the time all we see is companies using pro riders for feedback or just making what they think we want, but my hope is to almost crowd engineer and make decisions based on that. I can’t be too specific on it just yet, but as soon as the first products launch in a couple weeks it will make way more sense. Thank you for being here and supporting the channel!

    I recall middle school days (97ish), racing a Haro, and doodling designs for chain rings, stems, etc in my notebook while bored in class.
    I actually CNC machined my own 43T front ring - my dad was an engineer for SmartCAM/AutoCAD on the software side back then.
    Go live the dream.

    The bike industry's greed became my gain. I just bought a sweet 2023 Rocky Mountain Instinct carbon for less than $3K delivered to my door and set-up to ride out of the box. The bike was $4600 last year. I spent $4K on my Stumpjumper back in 2013. It is a crazy time right now with the 2024 bike launches hitting the market. Good luck with the channel.

    The bike industry is so much bigger than we are as people that bike for funsies. The industry catering to adults playing with adult toys isn't worth whining so much about. The important thing is that people that can still get reliable, fairly affordable bikes to get to school and work.
    *All the whining about prices for toys is absurd. I'm not in the industry anymore but I was selling $5000 SRMs over 20yrs ago, and $2200 Zipps that melted on descents. You get significantly more for your money now. I have custom Seven that would have retailed for $12k in 2005 if I didn't get an industry discount. There isn't a single modern bike over $4500 that isn't better than that Seven that would be $14-15k today.
    Also, cheap road bikes were $700-750 when I got in the industry in 2005. I'm blown away that there are still sub $1000 road bikes due to inflation. Those sub $1000 road bikes are significantly better than those $700 bikes from 20yrs ago and cheaper accounting for inflation.

    When I worked in a bike shop as a student 20+ yrs ago the bullsh*t the representatives where willing to tell us to carry a line and buy some whatever fad was already piling. It was always like that marketing market and salemens sell but mechanics and owners of small shops eat the lefovers, pretty similar situation to the automotive industry.
    Good luck btw 🎉

      Thank you! It is very similar to automotive, my career background is actually with Audi, Mercedes, and then into the startup side with ADAS systems and programming. Seeing how that industry has changed and broken on a larger scale was a great lesson in what doesn’t work. In fact I have tapped a lot of connections from that industry to help with this. I’m hoping we can grow this movement and really drive change from the bottom of the industry since the people at the top obviously could care less.

    the bike industry is very niche and risky these days. people got the covid surplus problem but the fact that the bike industry also started shifting to ebikes around 2018 is something name brand companies didn't keep pace with and the taiwan bike factories that build trek etc just decided to build their own ebikes with the same parts and start their own online stores. it is very hard to turn down a $2000 ebike when a normal mountain bike is more expensive with less features. people are done paying an extra $1k for a name brand sticker.

    • @theEVO1VEDMechanic

      Great point! It honesty amazes me that the ebike side hasn’t gone more open source, there is a huge opportunity there!

    Make repairable bikes, enough with this poorly done internal cable routing bull#$#. I'm A bike mechanic and it is really hard to convince a "fashion/fad" cyclist that a headset replacement will cost a boatload of money because I will need to remove the brake hoses from he headset. Go see what Cervelló, Allied, and BMC are doing and never do that. Just look for the procedure to install Allied s propietary stem total B's.

    • @theEVO1VEDMechanic
      @theEVO1VEDMechanic  9 місяців тому +2

      AMEN! I just had to scrap a dropper post install on a bike due to the cable route having manufacturing issues now I get to re-install it back on another bike after having both of them torn to pieces. And there goes the video showing off "dropper post install tricks" that I was 70% through filming.... Entire afternoon wasted. MAKE CABLES EASY TO SERVICE AGAIN!

    Regular people need regular bikes...Cycling stores have always tried to upsell the consumer into a competition-based bike. There should be a class of bikes called Race/Sport/comp and let those bikes cater to the niche market that it really is. Regular people just want to ride a comfortable bike. When I was looking to buy my last bike, when cycling stores found out what I was looking for, they seemed disinterested. I'm buying a bike, not buying into a lifestyle or a corporate strategy. I have no interest in an e-bike. I want some exercise on my day off and want to be comfortable doing it. 😎
