After my previous channel of five years encountered technical difficulties, here is its new reincarnation. I will again try to share old clips of the Golden Age of Broadway in a bid to keep that true artistry alive and accessible.
Forgive the occasional poor video quality, the original material is often very old.

"Portobello Road" from BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS
We remember Richard M. Sherman, half of the Sherman Brothers, the duo who provided the soundtrack to the childhood of generations. Amongst their countless Disney scores, they also lent their talents to several endeavours on Broadway.
This selection of footage was shot during the filming of the "Portobello Road" number on Bedknobs and Broomsticks; first seen are brief shots of the film's star, Angela Lansbury, with choreographer Donald McKayle, followed by the Sherman Brothers rehearsing the number on a piano. David Tomlinson is then seen recording the song's reprise in the studio, accompanied by Irwin Kostal.

From a songs-only audience recording made during a preview performance during the Boston tryouts of Prettybelle, the Jule Styne/Bob Merril/Gower Champion musical. WEST SIDE STORY behind the scenes (1961)
One thing that is not usually made clear is that the cast had taken 12 curtain calls and standing ovations before Merrick came out and made this announcement. Merrick was renown for pulling all sorts of stunts, but I don't class this as one of them. IMO he was right to withhold the news from the cast and crew because, in showbiz, the show must go on -- especially on first night.
Yvonne, God love her, blows the lyrics at one point. I hear she did it often during the show's run.
I was there that night! Truly a highlight of my life!
Thank you for this. Fun!
Just back from Carnegie Hall one night only concert version, had to come here to see some of this straight away Oh to have seen this production, but I was only 13 and living in Massachusetts. At least I'm in NYC now
I don’t understand why encores does popular shows like into the woods while shows like Oh Brother! are sitting on a shelf waiting to be discovered by a new generation
When will disney understand? All we want is stuff like this back. Simple sweet stories about characters you can relate to. No politics, no race this or gender that, .....just a sweet movie you can take the whole family to and actually get along?
I miss Jerry Orbach more than certain dead relatives of mine.
Angela Lansbury, beautiful voice..
Liza looks amazing dressed head to toe in her 20s inspired outfit
Leslie can tap!
Saw this in Palm Beach!!!!
amazing, amazing choreography!!!
I was a lifetime fan of Angela Lansbury. I saw her in Gypsy when I was drama student at cal state at 18. My friend and I got backstage and were stopped by a guard. And I yelled. “We’re drama students from cal state”. And she yelled. Let them in. So I got to meet her backstage. She was having tea of course with her pinky up. Such a real lady This was long before she captured me with Murder she wrote I was in Georgia seeing Winona Judd concert when I heard she passed. I went to my room and cried for an hour. She never knew it. But she was a dear friend of mine!!!! Miss that darling woman
He will be forever the best lyricist and musical composer in the world for me. And Barbra Streisand did the best for that role
This song is so perfectly heartbreaking and it is for a character that deserves none of the audience's pity, yet it works so much! Genius!
Before the Beatles came Noel was considered Cool Britannia.
And it's great to finally get a sense of "Loopin' the Loop." Even based on these bits I can see why it didn't work. It's just not possible for Verdon or Rivera to be "bad." They just come across as "geniuses who haven't had enough rehearsal." Same with the choreography.
Barney Martin is so great.
I would love to know what is on Chita's t-shirt.
I had no idea she sang this. I loved Bednobs and broomsticks as a child. I didn’t really care for beauty and the beast. The animal guy always scared me😂
Even with the darkness, the amazing energy of the entire cast comes through (and what a large cast)! Lansbury demonstrated such affection for everyone - this was a perfect role for her, and made a really good show a smash like Channing in Hello, Dolly.
9:15 - It's the same melody as the overture. Sorry this was cut. Would love an audio recording of the complete song.
Son asombrosos :'v
It's funny how she went from portraying Mother Goose in Disney's 1961 film version of Babes in Toyland to playing this role. Mary was a woman with range. So talented. May she rest in peace.
No matter who she portrays, Patti is always Patti. Take it or leave it. Webber wisely chose to leave it.
Ohhh how nice. ❤️ Thanks for sharing
Outside of Murder, She Wrote and Beauty and The Beast, I knew Angela Lansbury best as Miss Price from the movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
God bless Theoni V. Aldredge!
😂😂😂 at first glance I thought that was an actual horse lol. Did anyone ever have more affection for a role than she did for Dolly?
Dennis Cunningham - many hours listening to him on TV!
Is this another full bootleg of the show or just the epiphany? Is there any chance of seeing the full recording??
Is this another FULL bootleg of the show? Or just the epiphany?
It's not this performance, but it's the entire show with Len Cariou: ua-cam.com/video/ISp5sjaSnl0/v-deo.html
@@mateuscristianschannelen961 I’m aware of that recording! This particular clip is different than the one you linked. So there’s gotta be another bootleg in circulation.
Traveled to NYC when I was 19 years old. Stayed at the Edison Hotel for $13.00 per night. Saw OVER HERE in last row of the balcony and had the time of my life. The dancing, the music and the Andrew Sisters. This montage of songs was pure heaven. You danced out of the theatre with those nostalgic Andrew Sisters tunes in your head. Fun, fun, fun show.
she looks amazing!!!! and what an amazing feat to carry a musical when she never did before.
A fantastic show stopping opening number.
I'm obsessed with this musical and glad to see these clips. I hope a Boston and/or Philly tape shows up. This is the New York version we're listening to.
Bambi Lynn doing the original 'Louise' ballet. OMG, how fantastic to see this.
Fab set for normas house on sunset bvld
👏👏👏🙏
God bless those boys who climbed all the way up into the flies, and slid down those poles. Talk about terrifying! What a magnificent production. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
For a while there this show held its own opposite "Hello, Dolly!" and "Funny Girl."
Been on a Broadway kick lately and this made my theatrical heart soar!!!
Dame Angela Lansbury will always remain one of the sweetest and nicest human beings in life. She inspired me ever since I saw Murder She Wrote with her impeccable voice, her sense of timing and above all her unmissable persona. Thank you for all the joys you gave us and still give when I still watch the reruns. Rest in eternal peace Mrs Fletcher knowing very well that you have given us all a legacy which is very hard to emulate . God bless you ma’am ❤
What a treasure. ❤⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤
I remember this night!
She was Mrs Pots. R.I.P. Angela Lansbury 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Patti marvelous as ever! So now we know that they did bring down the score for the Broadway company. That last note in one look, holy moly that must have been hard to start a show like that 6 days a week.
i'm not angela lansbury's biggest fan tbh but damn she worked this!
The audience losing it at the announcement was all it takes
