After my previous channel of five years encountered technical difficulties, here is its new reincarnation. I will again try to share old clips of the Golden Age of Broadway in a bid to keep that true artistry alive and accessible.
Forgive the occasional poor video quality, the original material is often very old.

"Portobello Road" from BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS
We remember Richard M. Sherman, half of the Sherman Brothers, the duo who provided the soundtrack to the childhood of generations. Amongst their countless Disney scores, they also lent their talents to several endeavours on Broadway.
This selection of footage was shot during the filming of the "Portobello Road" number on Bedknobs and Broomsticks; first seen are brief shots of the film's star, Angela Lansbury, with choreographer Donald McKayle, followed by the Sherman Brothers rehearsing the number on a piano. David Tomlinson is then seen recording the song's reprise in the studio, accompanied by Irwin Kostal.

I saw her in Detroit
Wow! ❤
A jewel of the Internet. Reaching back into the mythical past and pulling forth a moment to last forever.
Without question the greatest 11:00 Number ever written 💯
So why did they wait two decades to make a movie of "Chicago" without dancers of Chita and Liza's caliber? The movie wasn't bad, but they sure used a lot of quick cuts and editing to cover the lead actors' dancing.
Is there a full version available? In the description, you mentioned this was archival footage
Love this so much. Thanks for sharing.
There will never be another Carol Channing. For the past 50yrs, this has always been my favorite musical number.
OH MY GOD!!! Thank you for this!
Angela does the best "For Me's"!!!!
What a shame he got the cancer in his throat. Such a beautiful voice he had.
Love her!!!!
This set, just, OMG!!
CHITA !!! Boy was she MAGIC 🪄
Is the oven in this production the same as the 1982 stage tour?
I’m glad they trimmed some of those numbers for the film ….. the condensed version on film holds up very well.
If you know the musical, it must have killed her to omit "I Don't Want To Know" from this medley.
0:06 Could that lady be Angela's sister? Her face looks similar.
I grew up with the Cariou/Lansbury recording and then Hearn/Lansbury. I’m used to seeing different actors perform this, but to see different actors in virtually the same production from 1980 is wild. I feel like I’ve entered an alternate universe. Ha ha. Thanks uploading this. I must ask…does a full version of this exist out there?
Is there sound? I'm not hearing any.
I would've LOVED to have seen Len Cariou perform. His and George Hearn's takes of "Epiphany" definitely offered some inspiration for my own approach: ua-cam.com/video/0GUJKpYfkBY/v-deo.html
We're lucky we had Angela Lansbury in our life time ❤❤❤
Rest in Peace. 1926-2022.
We went from this to Awkwafina 😢
Its crazy that Angela Lansbury played Dame Elizabeth Taylor older sister and she outlived Elizabeth Taylor by 13 years. Liz was born in 1932 And Angela Lansbury was born in 1925. Angela Lansbury was such an extraordinary women. And an extraordinary actress, she was classy, brilliant, intellectually smart, she had a beautiful soul and heart, just a lovely lady. She was a true National Treasure and a iconic Legend, and became a pop culture Phenomena, who's career spanned 8 decades. She is a real STAR AND a goat 🐐 RIP sweet Angela Lansbury...you were my Nana's favorite actress and Murder She Wrote was her favorite show, she never missed a episode and continued watching re-runs just before she declined with Demetia and she would sadly pass away in 2023 the same year Angela Lansbury death..my Nana/Grandma was 95 when she died but unfortunately not from dementia a car crash took her. But knowing my grandma died the same year her favorite actress died was eeire but at the same time happy that they are both in a better place in place much more beautiful then anything our human eyes or minds can comprehend. My Nana gets to watch her in television heaven. Angela Lansbury (1925-2022)📻🎬📺📽️⭐❤️
Where can I get the complete recording?
Love this musical, have seen it twice and can't imagine this remake with a female playing Bobby....
I can't find a recording of it but I'd think it turns a whole new meaning to it too
Thanks for this, this is fabulous. Always been my favourite show.
God dammit i am cutting onions T_T
Iconic: Jessica Fletcher meets Hercule Poirot !
amazing!!!! the best production of gypsy i have ever seen. and i've seen the tyne, patti, bernadette productions. THIS PRODUCTION WAS THE ULTIMATE PRODUCTION.
GOD what i'd give to see this
AMAZING!!!
You did a great job.. Obviously a labor of love. I can't understand why it didn't occur to anyone to preserve these shows somehow. . Were it not for that tourist who snuck his camera in, we wouldn't have any footage, albeit silent, of so many of these Broadway shows dating back to the 30s. Lost to the ages: Merman's Gypsy, Mary's South Pacific and yes even Lucy's Wildcat. The tourist footage is frustrating because it leaves you wanting more. Merman and Bob Hope doing "It's Delovely" for instance. We have some TV versions (Wonderful Town), bootleg audio recordings (Coco) , selected segments on the Tonys (mid-60s on) and the Ed Sullivan Show. And of course, the OBC albums brought to life more in the late 50s with the introduction of high fidelity. Has there been any sound improvement since then? I say no. Remixing to perfection takes away a lot of the theatrical spontaneity IMO. I love the fact we hear Channing come in early with "ER....." before catching herself ("Ermangarde, stop sniveling,,,,") In "Put On Sunday Clothes". . I was born way too late to witness the show business era I love.
Dame Lansbury was a wonderful performer!!
Sweeney Todd is one of the greatest musicals ever written!😍
보는데 왜 눈물이 나지😢😢
I miss Ethel Merman. You will never hear a voice again like hers.
So she would have been, what, 81 here? Wow!
Wow! Is there a full version of the show available somewhere?
Thank you for doing this amazing job of piecing this together. So historically powerful! Years ago I was friends with Warren Lyons and he had pieced together an audio version of the entire show. He has since passed and I have no idea where it went, but this is as close to it as he had and I just know he would love an approve this!!!
Angela Lansbury doing her usual excellent, competent job.Suitably flamboyant. Always reliable.💙😊 🇬🇧😊💙🌈📖🦉🇬🇧
Amazing! Thank you so much for this!
My mother's father & Zero's Father were Brothers....
The time when Disney was for the kids and was great. Now the company is only a shell of what it used to be.
The way she words the introductio. N is snide af!!
What a shame that Angela Lansbury was never in a situation to record this song professionally. I love the Maureen McGovern recording of the song which, thankfully, is available here on UA-cam. To me, this is an exciting song. (While we're talking about dropped opening numbers, how I wish we had an opportunity to hear the original song that Julie Andrews sang as her opener in VICTOR VICTORIA. I always feel as though IF I WERE A MAN was a bit too low key. But, anyhow, thanks for this wonderful shadow of what must have been a terrific performance of a terrific song.
Angela Lansbury was such a loss ❤ So gutted I never got to see the original.
This is not only one of the greatest moments in the theater of the twentieth century. It’s the birth of its Masterpiece.
