Thank you for posting this! I was fortunate to see the production in New York (with a largely different cast). This is a vivid reminder not only of Angela Lansbury's gifts as a comic actor, but of what a fresh interpretation she gave of this classic role.
I was teaching in London that year and had the opportunity to see this production. The standing ovation at the end was well deserved, and Lansbury was, as this film shows, the hit of the show.
Wow, I hadn't realized there was a tour. She must have been around 90 years old here! I saw it on Broadway and she was running all over the stage with incredible energy. Absolutely brilliant!
Later in the play, there is a scene where Madame A is trying desperately to get rid of both ghosts and then we see her worn out, lying on the couch. I looked at that and thought - how exhausted the real Angela is going to be afterward.
They even advertised the show as "starring Angela Lansbury", and while Madame A is probably a lot of people's favorite character, I doubt it's typical to bill her as the lead when producing this show. I don't even know if some of those lines of Madame A's were meant to be funny / be zingers but Lansbury sure makes it sound like (especially at the doctor.)
Dame Angela did this because her mother had played that theatre, although they have changed the name. I believe it was the same play and part. Why was this never filmed, never streamed?
Thank you for preserving at least some of a legendary performance. If only it had been professionally filmed. They could have used the money they wasted on that terrible thing with Dame Judi

I am actually surprised no one thought of giving her this role until 2009.

She won the Tony for it in 2009 and then an Olivier in 2015, so I guess the second "round" was in the UK?

Do you have the whole show ?
Thank you... She was cool. She is glowing. Hasta siempre...
Saw her in L A ., she was MAGICAL !!!
This production was the greatest birthday present I ever had.
Happy Birthday.
She's amazing. Far too many actors in the theater sound as if they're yelling. Angela's magnificent voice just surrounds the stage
She is the absolute center of attention, deservedly. Her dialogue has been expanded, I notice. It probably felt flat in the scenes she wasn’t in.
The amazing Dame Angela, upstaging everyone, as usual. R.I.P.

Wonderful! What a thrill seeing this.
Fantastic
RIP Dame Angela.

I wondered the same thing. I really wish I could see her in Mame and this one.
Thanks for sharing ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜❤️🧡
Sheer bliss
Marvellous 🥰
Remember the film with Rex Harrison and Margret Rutherford.
