@Classical_Conversations CC Scribblers: Recipes from Lifelong Learners *FULL REVIEW *
I am SO EXCITED to finally share about this new curriculum created by Classical Conversations that we were able to preview and try with our family for the past 6 months! This is geared towards 4-8 year olds, but I believe it’s actually a perfect resource to do with your whole family. Easy to follow, I love this open-and-go book that does the thinking for me and I can just follow the “cookbook” and help to grow our appetite for learning! This pairs perfectly with your weekly memory work, or use as a stand alone classical curriculum. Use many of the recipes or use it sparingly, either way it’s a valuable tool to have in your schooling toolbox!
Here’s the official description from the CC Bookstore:
Scribblers at Home is a classical, Christian curriculum created to give families confidence as they begin the home education journey with their young children, offering a developmentally appropriate blueprint for acquiring the skills of learning while intentionally enjoying a family rhythm of reading, exploring, conversing, and playing.
Scribblers at Home begins by acknowledging that a parent’s first priority is growing a virtuous human, one who recognizes and loves God and His world. A classical education that begins with Scribblers contributes to this growth by passing on the tools of learning, mastering a core of knowledge, and practicing the skills that make it possible to treat words and ideas with confidence and other people with grace, mercy, and respect. Scribblers at Home helps families cultivate a family atmosphere that seeks the true, the good, and the beautiful.
Scribblers at Home presents education as an opportunity for families to know God more fully by exploring His Word and His world together daily. The curriculum provides foundational learning activities that equip families to know God and to make Him known winsomely to others.
Scribblers at Home is designed to foster the family as a community of learning; the activities are for families to enjoy together at home, not within a formal community setting.
•Encouragement to create a family rhythm of spending time together daily praying, playing, reading, exploring, and serving.
•Activities can be scaled to include older siblings in the fun and learning.
•Charts give parents the big picture of where the Scribblers skills are leading.
•Hospitable to all as the activities embrace all learning modalities.
•Gentle reminder that play is the work of childhood, and that littles learn by example, involvement, imagination, and freedom to explore.
•Permission is given to play, to wander, to be silly, to just enjoy being together; building relationships is the first order in the education of your children.
Officially available as of March 15th, 2023!! Click the link below to get your copy! If you have any questions or would like to chat with me about it, leave a comment and I’ll try to get back to you asap! :)

Hi everyone! This is our second year using the Classical Conversations curriculum here in Buffalo, NY! Last year we were part of a large local CC Community of 100 kids and we hope to return to our large community next year! This year, because of Covid, we are just doing our “CC community day” once a week with just a couple friends in our home. On Wednesday’s, from 9-12pm, we introduce the new m...

Here’s a video of our new cozy homeschool room that we just made for the 2020-2021 school year. This is our second year of homeschooling & we closed in our back porch to give us an additional 250 sq ft of space to our Cozy Cottage built in 1836. We did most of our homeschooling in our dining room last year with very limited space for storage & then we did a lot of traveling in the winter so we ...

Hi! My name is Nia & welcome to my channel! I live with my husband, Jeremy, and our two littles: Lena Pearl (age 5) and Nigel (age 3) in a 184 year-old cottage in Williamsville, NY. This was really helpful. I’m on the search for a good spelling program for our struggling speller. You did a great job comparing how the handwriting and spelling go hand in hand. Just subscribed. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. I also have a channel and have tons of homeschooling content. I would love to be friends and connect here 😊

We have always used a Charlotte Mason style approach to homeschooling but as our oldest just turned 10, I’m looking at classical education as well. We did a trial community day at a local Classical Conversations school last week and I found the Essentials class to be overwhelming for myself and my son (I was an English Lit major in college). Both of my children liked Foundations (we also have a 7 year old). Another concern I have are all of the UA-cam videos knocking CC for not being more God centered. The timelines don’t even talk about Jesus and I heard a huge focus is on Greek Gods and mythology. I know people either love or hate CC, but I just want to talk to someone who can tell me what they like and don’t like about it. One extra detail- we do a full day homeschool tutorial twice per week (with only Math for take home curriculum). We would really have only two full days to work on our CC. Am I biting off more than I can chew? I’m so torn. Sorry for the long rant!

Hey! New CC fan here. It does sound like you are already doing a lot. I’ll do my best to answer a couple of your questions. The timeline song does have Jesus the Messiah. It has some important Old Testament timeline information and early church information. For example today I learned through the timeline song that the Vulgate was the first Latin translation of the entire Bible that Jerome completed. It is the Bible used in the Middle Ages. I’m learning so much along with my kiddos. Also, we are memorizing John 1:1-7 in both English and Latin this year. So today, we talked as a class about how Jesus made everything and we talked about how he is the center of everything. We have a wonderful community and it’s wonderful to have other moms to lean on. We spend about 30 minutes a day doing memorization. I don’t have older kids so I can’t say anything yet about essentials. I hear it is overwhelming to everyone the first couple of weeks but that the kids and moms adjust.

Hi there I have been a part of CC for 15 years. I have graduated 3 kids out of CC. I have been a Challenge Director and for the past two years I have been an Essentials tutor. I have 3 kids currently enrolled in Challenge, Foundations, and Essentials. I hear every thing you are saying and you are right you either “love it” or you “hate it”. The curriculum is heavy and I would agree that at times you can feel overwhelmed with all that you feel needs to be completed. However, the guide and curriculum are a guide. You as the teaching parent get the freedom to use it how it works for your family. We have adopted kids who have special needs academically and I have been able to adjust to their needs and it has allowed a lot of freedom. History is the foundation in almost all subjects. Especially in the Challenge levels where they dig deep into God in all things. The conversation is rich and I have been amazed with how much this process helped my own children solidify their faith. My goal personally is not to produce a cog in the wheel of life and a worker, so with that said academics are not my first goal. I want them to be learners. To have the skills to learn anything they set their minds too. I want to nurture their heart. CC has definitely allowed me to have a space with other people, friends, and community to do just that. I pray you keep exploring and are able to make an informed decision. Praying God shows you what works for your family ❤

      @cozyhomeschool9874 Рік тому

All the info/charts/diagrams…everything you’d need in foundations is found in the book. So you can use it along with each cycle during your foundations years to really help to prepare you for the challenge years. It’s a great way to look and see what they need to know for those years and then work backwards. Hope that helps answer your question. I’ll be doing more previews on my instagram stories coming soon!

I wrote different things on popsicle sticks like hot potato, musical chairs, spoons, hop scotch, freeze tag hide and seek…. And on our “move body” time we will do some of those. We also practice soccer drills, agility’s and my next one I add will be scavenger hunts. We love our just dance too and GoNoodle dancing!! Cosmic yoga is fun sometimes but my oldest doesn’t care for the instructor haha. I think workout Joe is the other one we follow for little workouts. We also do exploring nature with children and each week it’s a different focus so I try to save a day for nature journaling and use one of our outside mornings to explore. Having an afternoon read aloud snuggle time might be nice or poetry tea time or hot chocolate depending on the season. We are doing a picnic poetry tea Time by our pond this month (for exploring nature theme)….
