Samsung Moohan vs Apple Vision Pro: My EXCLUSIVE Hands-On Insight
Переглядів 6 тис.14 годин тому
In this exclusive comparison, I pit Apple's Vision Pro against Samsung's unreleased Project Moohan XR headset, revealing surprising similarities in build quality and key differences in control methods and AI integration. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to shoot footage of either hands-on demo (believe me, I tried). Don't miss my exclusive look at Google's Android XR, Project Astra, and Project...
I Tried Google's Android XR Glasses...And I'm Blown Away

Google invited me to Mountain View to meet with the team behind Android XR as well as executives from Samsung. I tested Samsung's Project Moohan prototype VR headset as well as a few variations of Google's AR glasses with Project Astra. I also got an up close look at how Raxium MicroLED technology is driving these experiences. With Google Gemini integrated at the core of the OS, I'm really exci...
My Penstar eNote Review: Worth the hype?

This $369 ePaper device goes a long way in replicating the pen-to-paper experience. It runs Android 11, supports 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity with the included stylus, and can convert handwriting to text (mostly). But it lacks any sort of lighting or multitouch. As a straight-up Notepad device, it succeeds, but there are definitely some caveats to consider. ·LINKS TO BUY· 🛍️ Buy the Pen...

7:50 you were thinking about Google Deepdream
U gonna upgrade to op13?
Looks good to me!
Hi, Nice setup you have.Could u pls share the wallpaper link ❤
The wallpaper is part of the stock offering.
USB devices can also be used to view content on the drives. Great device in general.
I saw an app for watching immersive videos, NOCNOK, where I could watch beautiful girls. It was quite enjoyable.
Ha,really?funny.
I think a huge differentiation between the Android XR platform and the Apple Vision Pro is going to be the XR version of Google Maps/Earth and more especially UA-cam. UA-cam support on the AVP is very limited….it only works through the browser and does not support the various 3D, VR and immersive videos that are on the platform, where with the glimpses of the UA-cam app I’ve seen on Android XR, it fully supports all of those formats, and there’s the potential of Google making deals with the various movie studios for them to makes their 3D movies available on the UA-cam app on Android XR. That and I’m sure standard 2D videos will have a much better viewing experience on Android XR then on the AVP. This could all change if Google finally releases an AVP UA-cam app.
The UA-cam app on Android XR was incredibly immersive, all of the UI elements were separated into their own zones that made perfect sense inside of the immersive presentation within the goggles. It was highly tailored and very effective.
@ that may be enough for me to buy an Android XR headset….that and the AI 3D support on Google Photos. I watch a lot of content on UA-cam and from trying out the AVP, the UA-cam experience is very poor on there. This is coming from someone who’s long been an iPhone guy but has always purposely uploaded my personal photos and videos to both iCloud and Google Photos.
Given the amount of 3D content that's already on youtube, I think you'll be very happy with the Moohan device once it comes out.
The curved display ruins this for me. I would've bought it in a heartbeat if the screen was flat.
Yeah it's definitely a bummer.
I find it very strange to say Quest 3 is "rigidly towards gaming", and "Apple being more expansive" or something to that effect. Quest 3 supports both hand tracking and controllers, which makes it far more versatile for various uses (not just gaming) than Apple. On the other hand, Apple has purposely closed themselves away from 90% of gaming. I think Moohan/Google Android XR seems like a great middleground with the most potential. Can be used for VR gaming, full Android appstore availability, visual quality that lends itself to Movies etc., and wisely including things like eyetracking. I do hope they also allow full displayport wired connection to pc (or dp over usb-c - not just data over usb-c like Quest 3 does))
The music is a bit loud and annoying, a lower audio setting would be more appropriate
Cool I'll keep that in mind, thanks for watching!
Jason it is nice to see that you are well. I watched you for many years with Leo . Lost you when you left. Good to see you and hope the best for you . I will follow your great content.
Thanks for finding me here Rodney! Great to see ya.
Best video I've seen all day, fun! I'm a singer, thinking of getting Udio to input some of my vocals and see what happens.
Right on thanks for watching! I have more music focused stuff coming soon!
Another win for Android against apple
Time will tell, but I think Samsung has a good thing going here.
Gemini is a woke fire dumpster. What a bummer. It’s a real shame.
You mentioned the audio was built into the AVP, but said nothing about Samsung's prototype XR headset?
Yes there is audio built into the Samsung headset. I can't recall the exact configuration of it, but It sounded good to me ears during the demo which was in a pretty quiet room. No clue how it would compare to the AVP which I demoed in a very busy Apple store.
You didn't mention anything around communication are they using Samsung Avatar's for video chat?
My Moohan demo included nothing regarding video chat.
For sure Gemini has memory so it can sale your data 😅
Why is it always the right eye!!! It's a big fu to those who are left eye dominant. My vision is poor in my right eye, I just don't understand why these companies don't offer left eye options or did you ask if they will?
That's a great point. I wish I had asked that!
@JasonHowell since your group has better connections in general than the average person, could you reach out and find out what their plans or thoughts are for those who are left eye dominant? 30% of the world population is left eye dominant and that figure doesn't take into account for those who lose their right eye or have poor vision in their right eye.
kind of strange for the Apple Store to tell you no recording, I have videotape where I have stood in there and walked around and was recording, and the manager was quite happy to see me wearing mind because everyone that comes in always carry their in their hands.
Yeah I was a little surprised too.
Watching from India & absolutely loved your video, Great Work.
Thank you so much for watching, Vikas!
What the price on the Samsung xr headset and what the release date I mean will it release on the Samsung unpacked 2025 in February
Highly doubt it releases then but they will probably tease it a bit. I bet we get a few more specific specs/details at Unpacked and a release later I. The year with the foldables. But that's a guess.
Perplexity What is Perplexity PRO: can be used in iPhone
Sure Perplexity can be used in an iPhone, browser or app. It's my service of choice. I love it.
I live 10 min north of you in RP. 😎 So far I'm not impressed with Android XR. I couldn't care less about Gemini, and AI in general on smart devices. I like what AI does in other fields but I don't really need it on my Smart devices. I like doing research the old way, and a basic Siri like assistant was perfectly fine to set up alarms and start directions. Pulling up store hours.
Hello neighbor! I get it, not everyone wants or needs that AI context.
You are in denial
Hope that they do just the opposite than apple because it's a huge flop. I mean for price, weight, controller, VR and games
Pretty sure they will do differently in price (a hunch).
Shame the Samsung has a smaller Fov than Apple in your view. As a Quest 3 user was hoping for a slightly better Fov than Apple. Probably still buy it though. Thanks for comparing.
Yeah you bet. Now keep in mind, I had time with the Moohan about 1.5 weeks prior to the Apple Vision Pro. Trying to maintain my "memory" of the other experience by comparison was a bit tricky. But the AVP did feel a bit wider. I *could* be completely wrong, I'm sure we'll know in the coming months once the specs are released (or leaked).
...............Hey Apple fans, incase you didn't know , Samsung has launched a VR Gear VR headset in 2015!!! So no , Samsung was first...
But they will find a way to counter this comment. Watch when they drop a foldable and take credit for that too 😂😂
Ahhhh the Gear VR. I have a few of those lying around! We've come so far.
……………Hey Samsung fans, in case you didn’t know , Nintendo has launched a VR Virtual Boy VR headset in 1995!!! So no , Nintendo was first…
@@Pillysrule can't be serious. I hope you had one so that it burned out your retinas lol
@@terrencetee0826 If we are talking about who did it ‘first’ the oculus rift kickstarter came out in 2012 and there were heaps of iterations of VR in the decades preceding it. No apple fan boy is even arguing that Apple invented VR. It’s a moot point. And the only thing burning out my retinas is the sun that I just can’t stop looking at. It’s just too beautiful.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Siri now powered buy OpenAI? If that's the case then it looks like both headset units are have are AI powered. The main thing that you forgot to mention is that Apple is no longer manufacturing is there a VR headsets.
That's true, as of recently. I think the key difference though is that ChatGPT with Siri is purely voice query based. Whereas Gemini is truly multimodal. Big difference from a user standpoint. I'd make the bet that Apple gets multimodality onboard within a year or two tops.
@JasonHowell great point. I completely forgot about that.
Love these e-notebook ideas, but at $399 that's steep considering an ipad mini is $499 and you can watch videos on it. Not to mention you're locked into the e-notebook App system. And what happens when they go out of business? No updates.
True, true and true. But I will say, this and the iPad are clearly very different devices for very different use cases. Obviously an iPad can do more (and is more expensive to prove it). This has a specific purpose that, if you are in the market for this type of device you'll find the value in that price point. Many people WANT a ramped down, epaper tablet device to replace writing on regular paper for notes. This being so specific to that market is its strength. It doesn't pretend to be a media device. It's just not. And the competitors start around $400-500, often requiring the extra purchase of a stylus. So you know, they are just different even if they look like the same.
Apple / meta 🎉. Google 🤮
😢
@ I would’ve preferred Microsoft, but Microsoft gave up on VR and AR. And to an extent windows operating system as a whole when Windows phone died 😭
You do know they are not VR devices they are all classed as XR Devices even the Quest any headset that allows you to do Mixed Reality AR and VR is a Xtended Reality headset the PSVR2 is a VR headset as it only does VR amd nothing else
That's a great point, thanks for pointing that out. I'm so used to calling these kinds of headsets VR, but it really is XR at this point. Thanks for commenting and watching!
Well, I live in Europe (AI restrictions in place), my mother tongue is not English... in addition to this, Samsung/Google product still not fully defined in terms of tech features, games, programs and of course... fully reviewed performance. My guess, it will take some time to be available, tested and with a reasonable price... also feel a little bit heavy (or not big different in that area with Meta quest, apple vision pro)... so in my opinion in a couple of years I guess Meta and others can also have better visors, let us see then the difference and the real practical use of this... no mention the possibility of someone coming up with some magic in the haptic field that really, in my view, would be a game changer.
I totally agree re Haptics. I feel like that is a largely untapped direction for XR headsets. Or maybe even Haptics in the battery pack.
For pdf scanned books, if i did landscape mode does it will work fine?? 🙏
So I just tested it. Yes, there is an auto-rotate setting and PDF books will display in landscape. But consider that it makes the page INCREDIBLY small and difficult to read that way.
What do you use to film your videos brother and what LUTs do you use?
Thanks for asking! Studio: Lumix GH5. On location: Osmo Pocket 3. I use a color profile I've tweaked myself inside of Premiere. Always a work in progress!
Hard for me to pay 2k-3.5k $ for this kind of device, while Meta have similar product in 300-500 $...
Totally understandable. I need to get a hold of the Quest 3 to compare to the Moohan to see if they might reside in different price categories.
Too many unnecessary information
Thanks for watching! I'd love your constructive feedback. Are you talking about the driving portion? Or the actual comparison data?
Why not the Meta Quest 3(S). It's the only platform with a real active community.
Not a fan of the way Google wants to track everything you do with the device which plays into their business model of selling (or selling access to) your data. I prefer privacy.
The company that track everything is Apple, they want you to buy all the product from them, they are the least privacy company in the world, don't be fooled by their false claims.🙂
Well, Google may be compelled to change that behavior in the coming months and years through the many anti-competitive charges it faces in the courts. Personally, I just want the choice.
@ Absolutely. I’ll probably get one (I’m an XR device hoarder) but will disable all the monitoring I can.
News flash. 99% of Zucks money came from selling your data.
Do you see a future where AVP and Moohan exist on the market, and Meta quests still exists as a kind of gaming console, or do you think Moohan will just overtake, and replace the meta quest altogether?
Oh there is DEFINITELY space in the market for all three. As I think about it, they will very likely hit 3 distinct price points: Quest 3: $500 Moohan: (guessing) $1500-2000 Apple Vision Pro: $3500 The big question I have is how they justify their price points comparatively speaking. I really need to check out the Quest 3 to know how to answer that question.
@@JasonHowell I really like the meta VR stuff, used it for a few years already, but somehow I think I could be tempted by Moohan. I do use Apple products too, but the price of the AVP is a massive showstopper for me.
Probably not a good question for him, as he doesn't even own a quest 3. Imo though, there's nothing in the information that's already been released to suggest it will even compete with the quest 3, let alone replace it. Gemini? 😂 Quest 3 does everything both of these headsets do, and more. Even more so now that it was recently fully integrated into Windows 11. The resolution for the quest 3 is perfectly adequate for the price too. These other headsets will have to build the ecosystem that Meta already has, and all Meta has to do is add AI and higher resolution.
@@JasonHowell There will only be a place for all three if the other two come down in price. Otherwise, not a chance.
I don't think the emphasis on AI is as significant a differentiator as you've made it out to be. In any case I think Apple Intelligence will largely bridge the gap when it comes to the Vision Pro. I got mine yesterday (40% off retail on eBay). The fact that its foundation is both iOS and MacOS is the key differentiator. If you're a Mac/iPhone user it's the obvious choice for a headset assuming you can afford it. It's like being inside of "Apple OS". The only company that could create an equivalent competitor is Microsoft but with a bridge to Android (having abandoned the Surface Duo this part is missing). Apparently they're gearing up to produce their own headset but it's probably many months off from availability. The AR/VR space has plenty of room to grow but Vision Pro has set the standard. Competitors will definitely undercut its price but I don't see anyone capable of competing against Apples hardware/software quality, cohesion and ecosystem. If you have a chance to test one out quietly at home it would give you a much clearer picture of what it's capable of. The store demo doesn't do it justice.
Dang it, I was expecting a hands-on exclusive...
Hey Coolio, I'd love to now what you think I should have called it. I went with hands on because it reflects my hands-on time with both devices, something most people haven't had. But I wasn't allowed to capture footage in either situation. Super curious to know what you would have preferred it to be called. LMK!
Woah...that price, tho! 😲 So fun and interesting to hear the comparisons! Thanks so much, great job! 👏🏻
Thank you Lu! Now I'm thinking about grabbing the Meta Quest 3 for comparison.
Thank you! Glad to hear! I notified my parents to try it.

@@Gav_Jam thank ya Gav!
Jason, we must be brothers from another mother! I've found my new favorite YT channel. I was hoping someone would do this comparison. You took the initiative and I'm here for it man. I've done 4 in store vision pro demos myself! Although unlike you I haven't yet been able to test the Moohan headset. My main use case for VR is media consumption but I cannot justify the cost of AVP so I have a Quest 3 as the next best thing. I'm very much looking forward to hear you viewpoints here and if the Moohan device visuals are on par with AVP.
@@eighties8 I'm happy to deliver, man! Great to have you here. I think the Moohan will be a great media consumption device. Spatial audio, something I totally meant to mention in this video and didn't, really elevated the media experience on the muhan device. When I was sitting in the virtual Cinema room. It has me very excited to go back and re-enjoy some classic 3D movies in that environment.
Interesting! I honestly hope that Project Moohan would go towards something like what Meta did to the Quest 3. Unlike Apple’s Vision Pro which was not a success, not only because of the price, but also because of the ridiculously limited content available in the device. Great video Jason! As always 👍
@@Vestfirdingur thank you so much! I'm now super curious to compare the muhan against the meta quest 3. But there's no store for me to go and borrow a meta quest 3 from! Maybe I can find a friend that has one that'll be willing to part ways with it for a little bit so I could do that.
@@JasonHowell A comparison with Meta Quest 3 would be great. Myself and I'm sure many of your viewers have Quest 3 devices and they currently represent the best value in VR and its not really disputed. The headset is close to perfect but it lacks the features Moohan would appear to have in order to push it over the top. It needs 3-4k per eye displays, slightly better pass through cameras and eye tracking (either camera based on the cheaper IR based non-camera eye tracking that "inSight" is working on). If Moohan can deliver all of this for less than $1500 it will hit the sweet spot. Meta Quest 4 is sure to deliver on all of the above for less than $1K but that's perhaps almost 2 years away. You could do much worse with $500 than acquire a Meta Quest 3!
@eighties8 hmmmmm tempted.
