@@JasonHowell I would highly recommend the OEM aramid fiber case. It has a great feel in the hand, and wears in quite well. My second choice is the OEM green matte rubber case that you can buy off of eBay for like $9. I rock that one with my OnePlus SmartWatch 2 with the green band if I'm feeling like leaning into that color, which I like. Us old school Gen Xers rarely drop our electronics - we death grip them as if our life depended on it 😂
I have been using a OnePlus 12 since it came out. Great deal for the memory and storage. Much better battery life than the pixel 6 this phone replaced. Quick charging with the included charger and cable was eye opening. Don't like the round screen edges and soft screen saver, but the value over the Samsung 24 was to good to pass up. Jason, get a case. We know your history of dropping phones. 😂
A very decent review and thank you for sharing your experience....I am also enjoying a lot with my OnePlus 12...The cameras on it really did a great job during my trip to Dubai recently... It's a very all-round phone and I love it..

I really love my Oneplus 12. It's fast, UI is smooth as silk, absolutely no bloatware, works like a beast with all the multitasking I do on it, great display with good visibility outdoors, excellent RAM management, superb battery backup that lasts all day and has never let me down. Strongbox engine 3.0 keeps my confidential data secure and gives me peace of mind. Camera is decent too, works for my purpose. I own the Galaxy S23 ultra as well but use OP 12 as my primary phone as I absolutely love it!
Yeah I mean it's definitely not quite as bullet proof as Pixel or Galaxy S series cameras, but it continues to improve and I was very satisfied to have it with me!
@@JasonHowell Did you get the chance to test motion blur on the OnePlus 12? Would be interesting to see how the Galaxy, OnePlus, and Pixel compare. I heard Pixel handles it very well and Samsung tends to struggle with that type of thing.
@@JasonHowell I have the eraser option even on my older Huawei Mate 10 Pro from 2017 and Mate 40Pro from 2020 and the eraser on all devices kinda gimmicky to be honest. Even on Vivo X100 Pro too.

Ordered it earlier in the week (gets delivered on this coming Tuesday) so had to come down the rabbit hole of checking out the reviews to see if it was worth getting it. Coz I skipped the 9 10 11 coz they never seemed to me worth the switch past the 8T but the 12 finally made me pull the plug. Albeit very late but I saw it at a good price and figured time to finally cave into an upgrade. Thanks for the balanced review and real world use case example. That's one thing that stood out to me is you were also able to give a very practical review. Which is something some creators tend to forget and just focus on the bells and whistles and specs but they don't show us what it's like to actually use the phone for a set amount of time and what to expect etc What I like to call the "real world reviews" rather than what we can read off the marketing materials from the brands.
Excellent review. OnePlus seem to pay attention to animation and scrolling smoothness which really enhances the experience. Not being bloated with AI is a blessing. If OnePlus 13 has a flat screen I will consider getting it. They should definitely increase the update support to 5 years though.

I ordered my phone and the shipping was approx over 4 days cause of the long weekend. Before the phone arrived I had a case. There is no way I am using a phone without a case.

I used the one plus open for about six months at the beginning of the year, the hardware was fantastic, but oxygen os had so many annoying little things wrong with it that I had to stop using it.

Frankly, switching to the OnePlus 12 for your trip wasn't taking a big chance. It's a higher tier device than the pixel 8 Pro. It has a far better processor and the hasselblad color science is far more accurate. By the way, you can purchase a round tempered glass camera lens protector for the back of the device. I purchased my 12 in silky black and paired it with a black tempered glass camera lens protector and the OEM aramid fiber bumper case. Both give my 12 a futuristic race car look. You should check it out.
The update promise is obviously 3 years less, so that's a big consideration. Camera wise, I mean, I'm pretty darn happy. But again, Pixel still has that special edge. OP camera still isn't bulletproof where the Pixel mostly is.

OnePlus has always made great phones with snappy software, great battery and charging, but subpar cameras, but with the 12 it looks like the cameras are up there with the best ...
I currently have 4 hours screen on time, and I'm on 58% battery left! Took it off charge this morning at 7:45 am, it's now 18:22! Never experienced anything like this

Often these devices are sent by the manufacturer for the purpose of the review. Sometimes they send a case. Sometimes they do not. If they do, I affix that sucker immediately cause I am death to un-cased phones. In this case, I had to go un-cased. What ya gonna do.
I will never buy a OnePlus again. I have a OnePlus 8t, after the company was bought by Oppo, everything went downhill with mine. The majority of my apps are locked at 60hz, google chrome doesn't work since android 12, everything is slow, and now I have two green lines on my display like most of the other OnePlus 8t users and it looks like it's a software problem.
That’s why you put phones in cases. the folks in the phone community wanting to buy these super expensive phones and not put a case on it. That’s just idiotic.
This is one of the best phones on the market today and with one of the better sets of lenses. It's not the best in terms of photos/videos (Pixel and Huawei are ahead of it), but when someone claims that Samsung takes better photos, I have to laugh. I had this miserable Samsung for a week, after the camera update, and I must say that it is the worst flagship photo smartphone on the market, and many reviewers will agree. Someone who has dealt with professional photography will also confirm these words. But unfortunately, the money from Samsung took its toll.
Which Sammy phone? S24 Ultra? I also took that to Italy and I gotta say, it too got some INCREDIBLE shots. I'm working on turning around my Italy review of that one this week hopefully with tons of shots to show.

I mean, the proof is in the video. I took a crap tonne of pics (day, night, in between) during the Italy trip, got them home on the large monitor, and the results didn't disappoint. So I don't know what to tell you if that doesn't convince you. Didnt really shoot much video but I didn't talk about that in the review anyway. As for the OS, it will always be subjective. Personally, the OS layer doesn't offend me, I know some people hate it but again, subjective. If it looks like iOS, like... Who cares anyway? I personally don't think it does, but even if I did, they all copy each other in so many ways, it's all very iterative and incestuous in the mobile industry these days, what ya gonna do. And to answer your question, no OnePlus did not pay me for anything. They sent me a review device, and I gave my honest experience. Thanks for watching!

All icons are not converting on the same pattern some of them are left.

Both the slipperiness and the phantom touches with the curved screen are solved by using a $10 case.

Yeah OxygenOS is a hot/cold topic, I get it. Never really bugged me that much.
I use the AI eraser! Maybe clear cache and storage of the photos app? Or maybe uninstall the app updates?
