1998 Camaro LS1 Dyno - TSP headers / Mufflex 3.5" exhaust
After buttoning up a few things, I put the LS1 / T56 swapped Camaro on the dyno. This is the 2nd of two runs. It put down 337 HP to the wheels, no torque as the RPM signal was not reading.
SLP lid
TSP 1 7/8" headers

Replacing the pilot bearing and rear main seal on the LS1 as preventative maintenance while its out in the open. Put in a SacCity oil barbell while we're in there. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.
How to: Convert LT1 T56 to LS1 T56
Переглядів 9 тис.2 роки тому
Converting a LT1 T56 to work on a LS1 application is a good way to get a budget T56. I ordered the Rockland Standard gear conversion kit and am working my way through the conversion process. I'm just a shade tree hobbyist so don't take my methods for gospel. If you have any insight for better methods, please let me know!
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 10 - Interior and T56 conversion
Переглядів 9372 роки тому
Finally back to working on the Camaro. Was able to get the interior back in the green car and started the T56 conversion. Took the LS1 off the K-member to power wash it and get motor mounts done. Things are moving along. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 9 - Random things

Been a while since an update - just doing some random things here an there. Starting to actually put parts back on, including the LS1 engine harness. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 8 - Tick Master Cylinder install

Got quite a bit done the last few days. Got the Racetronix 255 pump installed, gas tank back in the green car and rear end back and bolted in. Biggest of all, I got the the master cylinder installed, although not without some speed bumps. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 7 - V6 gas tank removal

Been a minute - just some ticky tacky stuff. Got the gas tank out of the V6 and back into the V8 donor. Started putting the V6 rear end back in the V8. Removed the engine bay harness out of the V8.
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 6 - V6 10 bolt removal

Had to take a few days to fix some things on the daily driver and start removing parts from the 3.8l. Wrenched enough to remove the 10 bolt from the 1998. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.

Dropped the 3.8l / 4l60e combo out of the 1998 Camaro. No longer a V6! Transmission gave be a bit of a headache but nothing some rearranging didn't fix. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.
1998 3.8l V6 Camaro to LS1 / T56 swap - Part 4 - Last startup of the 3.8l
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
Last start up of the 3.8l that has given me many hours of fun and smiles. The 3.8l has resided in this car for 23 years, time for a new power plant. Pacesetter mid length headers, to a Magnaflow "hi-flow" cat, to a 2.5inch Mangnaflow cat back. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.

Taking the 10 bolt out of my 1999 Z28 donor car. Not feeling the best, so I didn't go on too long but not much to talk about. Onto the gas tank. I am in the process of swapping the L36 V6 and automatic transmission out of my 1998 Camaro for an LS1 / T56 out of a 1999 donor.

Why not justt run the let flexplate and clutch with the shim?
That sounds awful, assuming you have a full exhaust system now it probably sounds better
Did it survive?
While you change all that get rid of that 4l603 if you plan on doing anything. They are garbage trans
I am swapping right now , LS1 from a 98 to a 95 LT1 , have few questions . 1- i need full harness for the swap correct? 2- i need brake systems or can i keep my no ABS one? 3- how hard is to take dash harness out. Thanks in advance brother great job with that swap.
Does counter shalf need shim too or no?
Why would you go through the hassle of a LS swap in a late 4th gen when you can just go buy one super cheap that came with a LS?!?!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Because I'm assuming he's had that car since he was a kid and he wants to keep it
@mikee2398 yeah but it's a pile V6!!! These cars are insanely CHEAP!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@C4VETTELT1 Definitely someone that misses the point of having any kind of attachment to a car 🤣😂, it's also not 2010 anymore and LS fbodies aren't all the over the place like they once were for $4-5k in decent shape.. People will pay fair enough prices for a clean chassis and looks like this guy had one and has videos from over 15 years ago of this car, if he's capable of the work why not LS swap it? Some people like to build their cars ya know
@Bbdrew you're 100% right!!! How the hell could someone have an attachment issue with a V6 car?!?!🤣🤣🤣🤣 what you're saying kinda makes sense say if it was a Z28 or T/A thats a LT1 car and wanted to update the engine!! And those cars can still be had for very little!!
@@C4VETTELT1 I guess that's why only stuff like old challenger r/t's are worth money and SE's are just worthless? Broken logic lol
im doing this same swap but M6 to A4 and vise versa
Great video, glad to see the project and love for the cars. Working on one myself.
What is the part number for the input shaft for the LS application?
would have been nice to see some of the operation of what you did!☹☹
I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find the part numbers for the input shaft bearing and the race that goes under it. The tremec PDF files only list the name of the part and the number associated. Could you look back at your order and let me know? Thanks
thermal heat and freezing is the most undertaught tricks. probably only needed heat but good to see it worked. Thinking of doing same swap
Glad u didn't smash your d beater 😅
No help at all
Was the harness plug and play?
Would this be the same for a 408 stroker/t56 combo? Was in a 99 z28..
Has the transmission been used with the .003 endplay? If so how many miles with it functioning correctly? I'm trying to do the same thing shim a t56 amp plate.
I think I missed the point of this? What’s wrong with the donor car? Looks decent.
Does the carbon monoxide go in the cabin or is that a myth
Hey man could these connect to a h pipe?
bonjour j'ai 21 ans j'aimerais bien acheter une camaro de 1998, mais j'hésite entre le v6 3.4 est le v8 qui est quand même plus cher, je précise que je suis français et j'habite en France. Is the difference obvious and is the V6 3.7 version more fragile or less resistant than the V8? What would you advise me in terms of maintenance and also fuel consumption, because a gallon costs almost $7.50 in France?
Awesome
Good stuff
What exhaust are you running on the 6 ?
How hard is it to install mid case back on t56?
Have you put any miles on the trans yet?
What is that paint job, gasoline green?
how did you wire the ignition to get the engine to crank by key
Met an old guy at ACE who told me filling the cavity with grease and tapping the bearing w a socket will cause the bearing to be pushed back out. Haven’t tried it yet
Just subbed to channel hoped to learn a more cause all I do is break parts 😂
Sounds like a good swap done 👍
I'm trying to swap a 6.0 in mines this fall
You don't see that color it's rare nowadays
People used to say this swap wasn't worth wasting the money on even 5 years ago but with the prices of a V8 model getting higher and higher it makes alot of sense. Plus a good condition V8 is becoming a collectors item. Great video though.
Probably the best representation of the Mufflex 3.5” with Magnaflow muffler I’ve heard. Sounds good!!!
What's your location and how much for the old Motor I have a 95 firebird and I need it badly
Hey Eddy I've got a 3.8l that needs head gaskets/maybe heads too free if you pull it. Illinois
Can you buy stock ls parts and swap them?
How much would the swap cost ?
That LT1stuff is not cheap u get get some good money for that old stuff
I’m doing the same swap V6 A4 to V8 M6. How did you know where to cut?
What vehicle is the donor?
This isn’t necessarily about the swap, but can you tell me what shifter you used? I’m not sure what to buy.
When I bought the LT1 T56, it came with a Hawks short throw shifter. It was nice enough for me to use. I don't have experience with any other shifters (even stock), but the consensus on LS1tech seems to be MGW is the go to.
@@Crazed98Camaro Thank you so much!
Is that V6 still up for grabs?
Sorry, sold a few months ago.
Bright green metallic color?
That's right! I love the color, don't see too many green cars on the road these days.
Sounds great! I hope mine puts that much down when I get to the dyno. I am running similar specs on my 2000, SLP lid, Long tubes and SLP cme muffler buts she's seen a lot of road 180K
Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised with the result. This engine only has 91k on the clock, but I'm happy to hear yours is still going at 180!
@@Crazed98Camaro It drives great for 180! Still tons of power, Has the infamous noisy valve train and the 2nd gear syncro likes to grind when it's ice cold, but a nice driver wither way
Thanks for the video. It’s a big help.
That’s dope bro. Congrats sounds mean
Looking good! Just watched all the videos you've posted on the swap, it's been entertaining. Also the color on your 98 is great, not too many in that green
I’m doing the same swap. Far as the clutch master go how do you determine the whole in the firewall?
Sorry for seeing this so late, you can check my build thread here for some more info on when I cut the firewall hole, but the best way I found was to mount the new pedal set and trace out the hole that way. ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1955246-1998-3-8l-v6-auto-ls1-t56.html#post20408041
