Triumph tiger 90 rocker box screw stud replacement.
What do you think if those electronic ignition systems that also replace the coils ?
@@tony4011 I'll be honest, I haven't tried one. So probably best to not have an opinion. I guess you mean those electrex jobs that replace the generator? I see people recommending them. Especially for competition use. So they must be ok.
@@suzukisav OK, thanks. I think that the bloke who had the 3TA before me did a reasonable job getting the engine rebuilt, but he bodged up the wiring a bit. So as I was thinking of replacing it all, I'd seen that other guy doing a UA-cam Tiger 90 overhaul mention those systems, I thought I'd have a look at them.
I looked at the Dominic Chineas series, I found it was more of entertainment than information on how to overhaul these bikes. You are giving me a lot more useful information. Even if I've watching them a good 9 months later. Why didn't you measure the bearings with metric micrometer and then get Google to convert. However it is quite important to get them combated.
@@tony4011 good practice using a proper imperial micrometer. I'm just in the metric generation, so imperial is harder for me. Just sharing the pain!
@@suzukisav Yes, I understand. I haven't used an imperial mic for probably 40 years now. I don't think I could any more ! And to correct my typo that I've just noticed. I think it is very important to get your micrometers CALLIBRATED !
Where did you get the frame to put the engine in from ?
@@tony4011 there was a chap selling them on EBay. Reasonable money to make it not worth making one. 👍
Yay another vid ...The TR6P SAINT "Stop Anything In No Time". There is a fully equipped SAINT at the Thames Valley Police Museum in Sulhampstead for anyone interested in these.
@@Triumph-Tiger-90-Com you're absolutely correct, a Triumph Saint. Still has its unusual gear ratios. Apparently designed for police escort duty and high speed chases!
That's one sweet bike, mate. Hope the T90's still good.
It is!
Hey! Really good to meet you today at Prescott - sorry for butting in on your lunch break! Hope you enjoyed the day, and really hope to see that NSR back on the bench again soon.
Great to meet you too. It’s nice to know people are real!
Dangerous to assemble incorrectly and not come clean if people following you to rebuild
Sorry I couldn't join you at Shelsley, I was thrashing my Tiger 90 in the Pyrenees.
Outstanding! That's what we build them for!
Full respect for 70 mph on the motorway. 65 is enough for me 😂
I do have vibration white finger in all of my extremeties now. 🤣
I'm surprised you didn't notice the loose tank as a loud banging noise as the stud rattles due to movement between the frame and tank.
Its a tight fit either side of the frame, so very little movement. I'm amazed the bolt shot out. Its quite tight to push in. Must have been the frequency!
Great stuff, mate. I've been hanging out for episode 40!!! Bike's falling over, bolt flying out, just part of the joys of owning a British bike that's just about old enough to draw a pension!!! I see you still haven't put your dad's points cover on! Bad lad.
❤❤❤
I have the same speedo drive gearbox and found that the inner cable was too long for it. I didn't want to cut the cable. There's not a lot of threads in either end so i made 2 nylon spacers to effectively lengthen the outer cable by, I think, 5mm. It works ok. The speedo reads 10% over compared to GPS speed though.
That's a good idea. I've got some nylon bar. The last time I put a cable on that was too long, it displaced a gear in the chronometric speedo. So kind of critical length wise.
You have the early speedo drive unit which may not suit the new cable ! A bummer with the gearbox oil leak, I always replace the bush every time as it wears where it passes through the clutch seal. Do you have insulating spacer fitted to the carb ?
It looks and sounds fantastic, mate. Give yerself a big pat on the back. You not gonna use your dad's points cover???
I'll get some shorter screws. 👍
If you still have pickup from idle problems then modify the slide as follows: With a half round file, file a 1.25mm deep crescent in the centre of the flat part of the slide to create a kind of micro venturi around the tiny pilot jet holes. It cures poor pickup from idle and fussy low speed running. I've used this successfully on my T90 and T25T concentric mk1s and my brother's T140D concentric mk2s. I haven't tried it on a Monobloc but I expect it will work.
Sounds brilliant.........
I always forget what those nuts are called just checked Aerotight nuts
Shame about the main shaft oil leak, but glad it's not stopped you getting out and enjoying it in this weather. 👍🏻
Its only tiny. Nothing to concerning.
I cheated and skipped from episode six when you were showing us your big end 😂 to this one so that I could hear her running. Does that make me a bad person? I promise to go back and watch the others though. What an awesome job you’ve done! 👍
That's like eating your pudding first! 😂
"Finished with my woman because she couldn't help with me with my bike" :)

How much do you want for it?
😁 Not for sale this one Matt!
@@suzukisav does that mean there are some for sale in the garage?
@@MattLammas not proactively....
Find yourself a snotter. I’ll help you build one. 😉👍
Such a lovely clean T90. So hard to keep it that way.... I rode mine 217 miles in pouring rain for the Fleet classic run and now it's filthy, the chain oiler has deposited all over the left side and the engine breather pipe has spread an oily creamy emulsion over the back. She never missed a beat though and nothing fell off so a good result 😂 Remember to run yours in good and hard to stop that smoking.
Pretty much run in now. Need to change the oil now. My chain oiler was belching too so I've added a pipe onto it and reduced the flow.
Been following the series as I rebuild my own '64 T90... you've been a mine of useful info - thanks. Love the reverse megaphones ...we're did you get them? Armours or somewhere? Cheers Mo
I think they came from Classic Bike Shop, Redditch. 👍
Thanks for the plug! I'm afraid my videos aren't as polished, but I'll give you a shout in the next one. What are you going to do now that the Tiger is finished?
Always something in the pipeline!!
You're gonna give yourself carbon monoxide poisoning running it in the garage all the time 😅
Euro 6 compliant. 😉
Congratulations mate. Beautiful build!
Zip tie! ZIP TIE!! You've watched the BOM boys....that needs a bracket, not a zip tie! 😅
Did you spot the ziptie on the speedo drive? Only temporary. I need a specific type of chronometric speedo cable. And the wrong one came. Once installed, no zip ties required.
Looking and sounding great!!
That's orgasmic, mate!!! You gotta use your dad's points cover!!!
we had some good times in the pigs
Lovely job sounds great with those megas
The Wellseal on one side only of the gasket trick works well for me on my old Honda twins..
Where'd you get those gaskets? I wanna make sure I don't order from them. Looks like a 5th grade class cut them out of construction paper for an art project. I really like the Franz and Grubb gasket kits.
Just a cheap set off eBay. Lesson learned. Always buy from reputable suppliers.
I haven't had any notification's for a while but on the plus side I have a few episodes to binge watch now! Did anyone else think Yahtzee at 7:30 !
Loads of catch up! It very almost there!
Bike looks & sounds great !🤘🏻🏁
When you break it in don't pussy foot around. For maximum power and minimum oil burning do this: When warmed up get on a motorway or fast road, accelerate hard through the gears then in top gear load the engine at half to 3/4 throttle and accelerate to 5000 rpm then cut the throttle and slow a little. Repeat this acceleration and cut sequence for 20 miles and your rings will be perfectly run in. Then change the oil and clean the filters! I changed my oil after 100 miles but I'm running an external filter. Even so, it had sparkly bits in it from where the rings had bedded in so I regretted not doing it after that first break in run.
That sounds like how people used to run in racing bikes. 👍
Fantastic! Mine started first kick too. You'll love riding your T90 but keeping it clean and beautiful is a challenge 😂
Nice one. I've been watching from the start, totally get the excitement. Very nice job not just the full strip down and rebuild but having to remember the filming editing and posting. I've got something to reference my 350 engine strip down to now. Thanks and enjoy the Triumph hill climb day.
The Lucky Hat works... Production at Meriden was 120 machines a day, Cubs on one allembly line and twins on another. Look up Howard Grey for images of the factory from November 1965.
Too cold in my shed for the T-shirt I’m afraid. I’ll be sporting that at the 75th anniversary weekend if the sun come out. 🤞
Really great job looks and sounds fantastic, well done.
Could I buy one of those oil cans?

@suzukisav I'm in the u.s. and we don't have them here. I went to the link you sent me but they can't deliver to me.
@@TravisRummer do you need the oil, or just the can?
@@suzukisav I just want the can!

YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! First poke. The Tiger roars!!!! Fantastic job, mate!!! Like your first-born all over again!!! Shiny brass tappet covers would be really cool!!!
There's no sweeter sound than that first start up.
I would think the extended float bowl will help a little with cooling the carb...because it has fins and it's allowing more gas into the bowl.
That's the idea. But not really sure they were ever very effective. Look lovely though!
Looking good. Are the coils supposed to hang that low under the tank, or did you modify it? Most of the Triumphs I've seen have the coils tucked up under the tank or under the seat.
Yes, its modified. The original tank had cutouts for the coils. But this tank is older and doesn't have the space. So I just made a bracket and dropped them down a bit.
@@suzukisav I had a similar problem with mine, I too have an earlier tank without the coil cut outs so I just used a twin lead single coil from an old Honda Bros twin and stuck it under the seat beside the Boyer, far tidier and a great deal more reliable than the twin Lucas coil set up. The bike is looking great, that extended float bowl is blingtastic.
@@deniscurtin9510 I might upgrade to a digital coil at some point. My bank balance needs time to recover first. 😁
The tension is unbearable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A bit like your kick-start spring!!!
😂 Patience!
The excitement builds to almost intolerable levels!!!! GIVE THE BUGGER A KICK!!!
Trying to gather myself!!!
more smuttiness with the horn comments
It's terrible when your horn fails on you. 😉
I told you it would be an entertaining video 180 degrees further round 😂 With the strong spring the kickstart will return in contact with your boot and feels right, unlike a floppy spring. I'm guessing you have a 43 tooth rear sprocket same as me. I have a 20 tooth drive sprocket which gives a nice 65mph at 4500 rpm.
Ah ha! Yes, you were right! I think I need to do another video comparing my 3TA and this engine now. For pros and cons!😉😁
