Richard Martin Trail
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
Named after Richard Martin who was the driving force behind seeing an abandoned railroad bed converted to a trail. It Starts on the Tennessee/ Alabama State Line, goes through the Middle of Elkmont, AL and ends at 11 miles north of Athens, AL. A little rough in places so I suggest at least a Hybrid bike of something with bigger tires than a road bike.
Katy Trail Part 3

Part 3 of the Katy Trail ride . Contains Days 5 and 6. So Glad to have completed the Katy Trail and I was also glad to have had my friend Don along as well. He mad it so much easier as having him along to ride with occasionally and was so valuable as support. I hope these videos help others in their planning to do the trail. Hang out to the very end to see some outtakes.

Mammoth Cave Rail Trail Bike Ride

This one has little to do with the cave itself but the Rail Trail that starts outside the park from Park City and follows the old train route to the cave. This video is for those people wanting to see what to expect as far as difficulty and see if it is something they want to do. It was lots of fun! But not an easy one. There are very few flat parts. Most of it is wavy or hilly. I would NOT rec...

You must of wanted a workout to put in at Four Corners rather than Hamilton Creek or even 7 points. Glad you stuck to rowing along the bank. I’ve almost ran over some out in the middle between Bear Island and Cook Recreation area. The sun was in my eyes and glaring off the water and there were a lot of power boats headed to Nashville Shores for the forth of July Fireworks and never expected kayaks to be that far from shore and paddling through a steady stream of power boats. A kayaker was lost several years ago in high winds and rough water near Hole in Wall. No life vest. Be safe.

yeah, it's about the journey as much as the destination. It is always a bit scary going across open water. We try to stick to the shore as much as possible and stay together. What else do you think we can do out there to be seen by motorboats better?

If anyone knows anything about the family this trail was named after, Merritt Ridge, I'd appreciate any Leeds. I hiked it a week ago and didn't make it to the Yucca plants. That's a fascinating curiosity. It could have been left by relatives of mine.

I don't have sag wagon so did a lot suffering with the seat, all the weight in the back, etc. Now Im planning a trip next fall and gonna take my old trusty touring bike. Did you ever figure out what was causing your flats? Seems like there might have been a small sliver of wire in the actual tire that kept puncturing your tubes. I can't think of any other reason for that many flats. That's one of the big reasons I switched to a tubeless setup for my touring rig. I've had a lot fewer issues after switching. Thanks for the series. I'll have to get to the Katy at some point. It looks like a great rail trail.

For me it seemed to have been some tiny thorns that got imbedded in the Tred. We couldn't find anything at the time but after I got home, I took it to a bike shop. They found them. I think I got them at the Katy Roundhouse campground in Franklin. I was riding through the campsites looking for a good one. There was a lot of natural debris like sticks, leaves, ect everywhere. I think I ran through something there. Glad you enjoyed the videos. I am looking forward to getting back on the Katy again. Best to you on your ride!

Thank you for posting your review of this trail. I rode it yesterday from Piney Chapel to Veto and back. Your assessment of the trail was spot on, despite the negative "needs to be paved, too bumpy/rocky" reviews found elsewhere. Elkmont was a nice visit, and the bathroom there at the station was actually open. Restrooms at Piney Chapel and Veto were locked however.
