New subscriber! I crossed over from Ben's channel. I'm looking forward to watching your videos. - Dan 🌲
Awesome thanks for checking us out and subscribing!
Is this near Grande Cache Ab?
Hot
Get to see any animlas during your trip?
nice rig
Thanks!
Just saw the rig in Utah
i saw this when you posted it 2 hours ago but i saw it as well in idaho
I have a 100 series with the same engine and 250k miles on it. I love the truck, but the bottom line is that its expensive to maintain and keep. I think most of your "hate" 1 - 10 were about maintenance and upkeep. Hey we could all buy a VW golf and not worry about it - but we just love LCs and are prepared to pay the LC tax! All the best from Scotland.
Any safe viewpoint to pull over along the road??? I’m interested to drive by on this the whole stretch
Can you share the location pls
dang man i didnt realize that you restored it. o seen you idaho falls idaho
I keep critical spares but monitor alot of items for wear, when it's showing wear I replace. Some items are worth doing the same together like camshaft and crankshaft seals with a timing belt job.
Hey Mate, good effort! In my experience though you'll run into chipping etc pretty quickly with this kind of paint job, especially if you do alot of miles or 4wding. Next time just get it all sandblasted and powder coated.
Time will tell! If it doesn’t hold up I’ll go that route
I'd love to have barework for my troopy at all... but thats not easy in Europe... stupid pedestrian protection laws... 😂 Greetings, Björn
Got to love those laws 😂 because the 2.5tonne LandCruiser that hits them is alot nicer when it has no bullbar
@@gureno19 Of course, and it will deform under impact to protect and beware of bruises and injuries🤣
Funny you should say that but I just think these are plain ugly and I will never ever install one on me HZJ75. On top of that, they are so heavy and put additional weight in a place you really don't want to have it 🙃
@@buschtaxi75driver55 most of us don't have a choice mate, without decent front protection from animal strikes you risk getting stranded in the middle of no where.
@@gureno19 Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess if you are based down under, you are probaby right but here in Europe, this is no issue really 😉
Is there any reason not to strip all the old paint off first?
I think the better question is, is there any reason strip all the old paint off first? 😁 As long as the surface has been prepped properly, you can prime and paint over existing paint
@@allterraintrails gotcha. I wasn't sure if it's best practices or not.
😊
A recommendation for hanging the water house. Use a harrier spring clamp mounted to your back door. Easy to in clamp but also easy to pour from the door without getting water in the trooper.
Wait till it breaks . If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
I do too
I dont
bring me back a dingo
Interesting but to be fair many of the minuses you list are applicable to you, your vehicle, and your circumstances uniquely. Other hates are universal and not specific to Troopies - eg soot and grime. But we enjoyed your Canadian perspective and wish you many many more fun trips.
Of course! 😄 this video is about our Troopy, not all Troopys
You do make it look easy to do the bearings. Very nice to see Johannes. I am always keen to see what I will have do maybe one day when my Troopy is old. Right now it is blessed to still be under Toyota warranty 😜. For my long range water setup I bought a 60l (16 gallon) container fitter behind the two seats and connected a hose which is routed to the back and connected to a cheap 12v car washing pump and hose. I also have cut off switch for when driving rough roads to protect it from leaking. When I need water I just switch on the pump 🤙
I’m jealous of your Toyota warranty for your Troopy! We could never have that in Canada ☹️ thats a great idea for your water system!
You made your bearing race look like a piece of cake to remove haha! I needed a solid 30 minutes of smashing for mine to come out, super sick watching you do the exact same cosmetic stuff I have done to my 96 Troopy. It seems they all need the same type tlc at a certain age. mine, with 500k km on it, just completed a 5 day (1500km) off grid track called the Holland track here in remote Western Australia with no issues (while 2 modern cars in our convoy tapped out).

This one was easier than other ones I’ve done in the past 😄 tough old reliable vehicles for the win!
Just a suggestion for your water tank... mount your tap higher than your tank as a “just in case “ the tap is inadvertently turned on. This way the water tank isn’t going to drain into the Troopy.
Water (overfilling/splash) and cigarette plug ports (electrical) play nice together ?
If you’re brave enough
That bearing is so much easier to work on compared to my 3rd gen 4runner
Yes! we used to have the 3rd gen 4Runner and the bearings were very difficult to replace which is a shame because they needed to be done frequently after mud and water intrusion
Well done man..looks like your summer prep is off to a good start!
Your videos are amazing. Could you name the areas, roads and lakes please.
🤗💫🔥
Great advice on carbon dioxide detector 👍
Hey mate. Im new to the channel and i gotta ask. How did you get a right hand drive troopy into North America? And what hurdles did you have to go through to get it road legal? Reason i ask is want to do year+ long trip to Canada in the next year or so. Ive got a right hand drive Isuzu Dmax thats set up for touring, that ive owned since new. I wanna know if its worthwhile bringing it over with me rather than leave it behind and buy another vehicle in canada. Cheers. Have subbed as well
If you want to register the vehicle in Canada after you import it, it will need to be at least 15 years old and be able to pass an out of province inspection. If you won’t be registering it here, do a Google search for temporary vehicle import to Canada 👍🏼
Buying a “budget” 4wd in Australia? Have a look at prices….. you’d be better off renting a 4wd if you only be here for 3 month. Your license will be fine. Selling a car with interstate rego on the quick, you’ll loose a lot of money. Happens to travelers here all the time.
Checking prices all the time! It appears to be a better deal to buy instead of rent. Plus if I buy, I can get a little bit of money back at the end when I sell it.
Queensland has the rainforest, Great Barrier Reef and the outback. Fly to Cairns and drive to Perth, from there. If you want see the real Australia, that's the way to do it. Sydney is just another big city. When you go to sell it, you will need to get a roadworthy certificate if the vehicle is registered in your name and the buyer wants it transferred into there name. Each state has their own DMV's.
Thank you for the info!
Hey, I'm from the Netherlands, just did a year of travelling Australia in our "budget " troopy. Pretty much did all the mayor 4wd destinations cap York, Victoria High country, simpson dessert. Wouldn't mind sharing experiences and information!
Sounds like an amazing trip! What is a good way to get in contact with you?
Hi guys great to hear your coming to Australia 👍 I’m a 75 series owner myself living just south of Sydney I’d love to help you out in anyway I can with information regarding licensing, insurance and ownership if your interested. I’m also always looking at good second hand 4wds so I could pass on any potentially good rigs to you guys. Let me know if your interested in chatting further
That would be great! What is a good way to contact you?
Sorry to hear about Troopy. It was good to hear. Sadly very common here in africa with the extremely corrugated roads. One of our UA-camrs even had the bonnet hinge break and short the battery on the bonnet lid. Would be good to see video on how you fixed the wiring. Enjoy Australia 🇦🇺 reach out to Jack & Megan (ex Troopy travellers) they super nice and Jack is very hands on like you.
We have some footage of the wiring harness replacement, maybe’s we’ll make a video! And yes, meeting Jack and Megan would be fantastic!
Check out adventure kings for cheap gear that works .
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL scenery and are those horses wild? they are so majestic, I'm in Canada, but not that side of our Country.
Glad you’re heading to Oz… to get most of the info you require about buying a vehicle in Oz, just google “ how to buy a vehicle in Australia as a tourist “. If you want, depending how adventurous you feel, you can drive Sydney to Perth without driving on bitumen for most of the 4000+ klms. Just remember that when you arrive Oz will be in Spring and the temperatures will be rising. I know you live in Calgary and the temperatures you will experience crossing Oz might be something you have never experienced…don’t forget about the incessant flies. Oz is a great place and I have travelled most of the Outback over the last 50 years. Never be afraid to ask people for assistance. I hope that the two of you have a great experience in Oz. Don’t have too high expectations and you will have a great time….safe travels.
Thank you so much for the advice! Sounds like you know the county very well with 50 years or experience 😄
Crazy story, glad you guys are ok though. Congrats on going to Australia I can't wait to see the adventures.
Sounds like after the 🔥 the knock stops. I was thinking possibly exhaust or intake valve being hit, or a bent rod
It may be a good idea to contact Patriot Games UA-cam channel, in Australia. They make their living on 4x4 builds and are well connected so would be a chance to find a used vehicle and endless knowledge of off road adventures. Have a great time I look forward to your videos.
Listening to the storey, hoping she is emptying the truck as fast as possible
Sounds like buying the pump from ANYWHERE in the world would have been quicker and cheaper
Haha legally drive on “the wrong side” of the road. Opposite to North America
The AUS government is ultra strict on modifications to vehicles. Once a change (simple changes) the vehicle will likely need REcertification to be allowed on the roads. Reach out to 4WD247 or many of the other YT channels out there. If you need some channels I can either mention or ….. hello from YYC here myself
See if Shaun Whale still has his rig in America, maybe the container going back to Australia will have room for your truck
Actually Graham on 4WD247 runs a AUS long tours, but he is base in SW AUS opposite side of continent from Sydney
Oh. Your going to Perth, that “near” where he is
1. Registration, when you buy a vehicle it needs to be transferred to your name and you automatically get current leftover rego, it normally expires anually, so if expires in december 2024, you have that. to start with. The vehicle will need a "blue slip" in NSW that proves it is roadworthy ( ie legally safe on road ) do not buy a car without blue slip because it may need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to repair, some people sell cheap because of known repairs. When you sell it in Perth, the new buyer will need to register it in perth and you get refund of NSW rego. Each state has its own registration rules. Each state requires the equivalent of a blue slip to be registered, you might get lucky and someone buys it off you without one, then it is their responsibilty but you will get less money for the car. 2. Insurance, you normally need an address for insurance, 4wd insurance in australia is very expensive, easilly $1500-$2500 depending on value of 4wd and driver, especially if you cannot prove no previous claim history, you can get a 12 mth insurance policy and pay insurance by the month, cancel at any time and only pay up to due month. Note some 4wd modifications make them uninsurable, be careful with mods. Contact any australian insurance company online to enquire before you come over. 3. Youll need an international drivers licence in Australia. 4. I live at the start of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, if heading this way reach out. reply with your email.
Congratulations on the move!
Thank you but we are not moving! It will be a 3 month trip, then return to Canada 👍🏼
