BTS - THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE! Filming at the Box in Western Australia
A couple of years ago I had the scariest moment of my life while filming in the water at a notorious surf break in Western Australia.
It took me a while but I was finally able to get back out there with a camera and get some decent footage out there.
In this video I'll give you the backstory to my latest surf edit and some of the BTS that goes in to filming in the ocean.
You can watch the surf edit here:

PELICAN CASES | pick & pluck foam PRO TIP | PLASTI-DIP
Переглядів 13 тис.3 роки тому
Pelican Cases and other similar hard protective cases which use the perforated pick & pluck foam are a popular way to store all sorts of fragile items including cameras, tools, and firearms. However the foam often starts to deteriorate after a short period, meaning you're left with a protective case full of small foam blocks. In this video I'll show you a pro-tip to give your foam extra durabil...

The Red KOMODO Can't Do This! || Z Cam E2 Series 0.98 Firmware: 6K 48fps Prores Test

With the Red Komodo being released recently, the team at Z Cam have responded with the 0.98 firmware update which adds 6K Prores at 48fps. This is insane coming from such a tiny little cinema camera and this is one area where the Z-Cam has the Komodo beat. Don't get me wrong, the Komodo is great and .R3d is an awesome feature that no other manufacturer has really been able to compete with, but ...

Diffusion filters are something I've been using more and more over the past couple of years, particularly the Tiffen Black Promist. Great idea - thank you!
Great! Does it smell inside the case though?
let it air dry for a while and it should be fine
Euros... Too much talk and never just get to the damn point.
This is an excellent video. Exactly what I needed to know and zero fluff. Thank you!
Plasti dip…what a genius idea. Thanks so much
Just needed this to find the modify option. Quick to the point - back to work. thanks.
will that method help me if i have several screen captured videos with fps from 5 (yes, terrible) to 30? i tried to just put them together but all sequence had frame rate of the first - 5fps.
Pro Tip: A girl in a bikini, regardless of audio is always "A" Roll.
Thanks for the tip! I've only used the original Plasti-dip that required dipping the item into the can. This is fantastic!
Interpret before putting on timeline. Quick note: Interpret footage option was not actually meant to slow down footage. That's what the speed duration option is for. If you do use the interpret footage method, you will run into problems when speed ramping and/or use proxies. Use speed duration option instead. Interpret footage option is to fix the frame rate to match your sequence settings frame rate (eg. from 29.97 to 30fps). Reason being, If you ever try to dynamic link from premiere pro to after effects to use for example rotobrush tool, you won't get the "frame rate mismatch" error, where ya have to start all over again in prem pro. To recap my advice: Use speed duration for slow motions, and use interpret footage to avoid frame rate mismatch errors (especially when using dynamic link to after effects). Hope this helped ♥
How many coats did you use?
On some cases the foam is sturdier to begin with so 2 coats is enough. On cheaper brands the foam is softer so 3-4 coast are needed to get it nice and firm.
@@wileyvisuals5714 appreciate it!
Some of the best footage I’ve seen of The Pass.
I loe the two minute tut. I'm so tired of video talent that are more in love with the sound of their own voice more than being a resource and getting me back to the job, lol. Thanks

Genius.

what lens did you use?
This was all with the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8.
3:03 amazing camera; you can actually tell that the model shaves. everywhere.
Thank you john!
Cool shots and edit. Did you shoot with the Salted Line + a6400? I'm thinking of getting one of those housings for my a6400.
Thanks! Yeah this was the Salted housing. Definitely a good starting point for getting in the water. This was the first time I was able to take mine out in solid reefbreak surf and it survived fine.
Best Z rig I've seen :)
Awesome tip mate! Love the content especially from a fellow aussie. Subbed!
Class act 👍
Which pelican case is that mate ?
Phenomenal video
Does anybody know where this is? !!! I got like 40 Brazilians friends we wanna fly over ! Where is this!?
Thanks. Can the foam be picked and plucked after spraying with Plastidip? I have a new Pelican casewhere I'll be storing go pro and tactacam gear. If I need to pick out a new spot (after using Plastidip) for a charger or clamp, etc., will I be able to do it without destroying the foam?
I've never needed to but my guess would be that it probably wouldn't work very well - this stuff does a darn good job of holding it all together. Of course, you could just take a stanley knife and hack at it but that might not look too pretty!
@@wileyvisuals5714 Thanks. I’ve ordered some plasti-dip and will keep that in mind.
I wonder if you'd care to comment on your results after all this time... I'm about to p-dip my foam and was thinking it'd be easy enough to make changes if I needed to (though one would need to be careful). Alternatively, I could simply purchase another level of pick and pluck foam and start over...
Hmmm. That second idea would allow for multiple versions of padding for the same case... Interesting.
this is gold
How do I do mixed frame rates for a smartphone review? Let's say I need to show 120 FPS, 60 FPS and 30 FPS? I am confused because I don't want any of them to be slow. Will it appear different if I try playing it all in real time?
Well then you'd put them all on to a 120fps timeline and render a 120fps video file. But not very many places will let you play back a 120 video file.
is this fixed for kit lens only?
The lens port and zoom gears are swappable so there are various combinations available for different lenses. When I purchased the housing it gave me the option to select my lens so that they can provide the correct zoom gear. You can check on their website to see lens compatibility.
@@wileyvisuals5714 Thanks for this info man. Do I need to use the zoom ring for prime lenses? Just want to make sure and last question, do I need to use the anti fog sheets that comes with it?
I realise I'm stating the obvious but Connor backhand is ridiculous
You've not changed it since you built it. That was the clincher for me. I'm building out exactly the same rig. Looks sick! But if it doesn't work out, I'll also have someone to blame ;-) Thanks for this content. Really helped.
Haha yes I've kept it mostly the same... just slight improvements over time. I think the ZCams are great IF you know how you want to use it. If you have strong idea about how you like (or want) to shoot then you can really build a rig that suits your personal style. For people who don't understand their own style though, it might be overwhelming to have to figure out all the rigging options!
@@wileyvisuals5714 No worries, mate. I'm confident ;-) I don't think I've ever looked at someone else's rig and not wanted to re-configure it in some way, but how you have yours built is right in my sweet spot. It's practically how I have my P6K rig built out, but with a cleaner form factor and config. That Rolux 99 is pricey over here ($279US), but it also looks great, and that's at least half the reason to buy it over a $149 equivalent ;-) Maybe I could let you know if I change anything, and for what reason. I know I'll be putting it on longer 15mm rods for example, as I have the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8, which is a beast from a balancing perspective. Thanks again! Have you tried/do you intend to try the Turbo Boost? I have one on back order. Curious if it really will render a true full frame look (at 1.09x crop) and the extra stop of light is always a belssing.
Love the clean build, really useful thanks. I'm on the verge of getting an E2-S6, how do you find the rolling shutter when tracking fast moving subjects? It's hard to find much about this on the web or Z Cam FB group. I'd love to know first hand from someone who's using it.
Hi Alastair, I find the rolling shutter totally fine when tracking subjects from a tripod (eg a car, surfer on a wave, etc). When it does become a problem is when there is a wiggle or vibration in the image when you're handheld. Like all cameras though, it can be avoided with proper technique or additional tools (eg easyrig).
@@wileyvisuals5714 Hi John, thanks very much indeed, that's great to know. Much appreciated 👍🙏
Subscribed because I'm waiting for more s6 videos. haha! Let's go!
