You've not changed it since you built it. That was the clincher for me. I'm building out exactly the same rig. Looks sick! But if it doesn't work out, I'll also have someone to blame ;-) Thanks for this content. Really helped.
Haha yes I've kept it mostly the same... just slight improvements over time. I think the ZCams are great IF you know how you want to use it. If you have strong idea about how you like (or want) to shoot then you can really build a rig that suits your personal style. For people who don't understand their own style though, it might be overwhelming to have to figure out all the rigging options!
@@wileyvisuals5714 No worries, mate. I'm confident ;-) I don't think I've ever looked at someone else's rig and not wanted to re-configure it in some way, but how you have yours built is right in my sweet spot. It's practically how I have my P6K rig built out, but with a cleaner form factor and config. That Rolux 99 is pricey over here ($279US), but it also looks great, and that's at least half the reason to buy it over a $149 equivalent ;-) Maybe I could let you know if I change anything, and for what reason. I know I'll be putting it on longer 15mm rods for example, as I have the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8, which is a beast from a balancing perspective. Thanks again! Have you tried/do you intend to try the Turbo Boost? I have one on back order. Curious if it really will render a true full frame look (at 1.09x crop) and the extra stop of light is always a belssing.
Love your setup! Mine is almost identical to yours. The only thing I changed on mine was the Tilta Matte Box to Smallrig Matte Box! I just ordered the Z Back so I'm excited to get that on the back of the cage and get my V Mount battery situated. I currently have it mounted on the side of the Smallrig cage but it's blocking all of my function buttons. I'll let you know how that plays out for me.
I still like the FXLion but it started to get a little cramped around the back of the camera. I'm going to keep it and probably use it on a 2nd camera body down to line!
Like I said in another of your videos, my rig is almost 1:1 with yours. One thing I do not see is any kind of audio recorder. What do you use for audio? I use a Zoom F1 with shotgun (with deadcat) on a shockmount. I use a different side handle as well (Nitze black handle). I also use the Smallrig back. I use a Zoom F1 with stereo shotgun and dual XLR input capsule. Love your rig!
I use a Zoom H5 and usually run a 3.5mm cable from that straight in to the camera so I don't need to sync in post (unless I really need the extra quality of the original audio files). One nice thing about the Z-Back is it gives you lots of room to mount the Zoom, either on top or on either side. I'm going to get one of the new Rode Wireless Go II kits so that for really simple stuff I don't even need the recorder, but can still have 2 channels.
You must have amazing eye sight mate ;) I don't know how you manage with shoulder shooting without a graticle EVF ? Looking at the Ninja V screen, or any screen for that matter, as close as you are in your demonstration is really bad for your eye sight. As for your statement that the Ninja V is bright enough for easy viewing in direct sunlight I couldn't disagree with you more. Trying to view the Ninja V's screen in full, direct, sunlight amidst the cross glare renders the screen useless without a sun hood installed :(. Your footage looks amazing non-the-less ! Who is that black haired goddess in your videos ? This Lady is hypnotically beautiful :) Wow ! Truly stunning :) I have the E2C and I'm shooting with the Ninja V in Prores RAW HQ mode. I must say I'm extremely satisfied with the results I'm getting.
Hey Mark, I don't often use it on my shoulder like that - it's just for times when I need to keep the camera steady for a quick shot - eg if I'm doing a short IV/vox pop. I certainly wouldn't do that all day. Have you turned the brightness right up on your Ninja? And are you using a preview LUT? I'm shooting outdoors most of the time including on white sandy beaches (And the sunlight here in Aus is much harsher than anywhere I've shot in Cali, Europe, Hawaii or Indonesia). I wonder if it's to do with lighting style - I'm often shooting backlit which means the sun is less likely to be falling directly on the monitor.
Love the clean build, really useful thanks. I'm on the verge of getting an E2-S6, how do you find the rolling shutter when tracking fast moving subjects? It's hard to find much about this on the web or Z Cam FB group. I'd love to know first hand from someone who's using it.
Hi Alastair, I find the rolling shutter totally fine when tracking subjects from a tripod (eg a car, surfer on a wave, etc). When it does become a problem is when there is a wiggle or vibration in the image when you're handheld. Like all cameras though, it can be avoided with proper technique or additional tools (eg easyrig).
Because you're limited to 60p maximum frame rate, it has no record triggering over HDMI (except for Prores Raw, which has compatibility issues in post), offers no benefit over the internal recordings, and introduces an additional point-of-failure. What part of using the SSD do you find faster to edit with?
@@wileyvisuals5714 I usually use 24p and ProresRaw. The great part of using SSD, I can connect directly to my PC and start editing o even I could hundle it to the other editors, media is easy to buy any places in the world. The most importantly, it's way cheaper than any Media.
@@dimitrimoonlight Well technically you could do the same for CFast... it just cost's a lot more per GB! Though really I think either is too expensive for permanent storage and archiving. At some point, you're eventually going to need to transfer it to a cheaper/larger storage solution. I prefer to do that before I start editing.
The small menu screen on top of the camera, can that be used as a monitor in a worse case scenario situation like if my field monitor's HDMI port were to be damaged during a shoot?
You can preview the image on it but it's not large enough to judge focus or exposure on. In that situation the best solution would be to use your phone as the monitor via wifi.
When the job has budget for rentals, I use the Easyrig Minimax. When there's not enough budget/time rentals, I use an easyrig knock-off. They're worlds apart and I hope to purchase a Minimax eventually.
Always happy to see a new S6 video
Best Z rig I've seen :)
Subscribed because I'm waiting for more s6 videos. haha! Let's go!

Really simple and informative and one of the cleanest rigs I’ve seen! Thank you!

contentFXLion V-Mount Adapter after watching your last review, but the Smallrig Z Back seems very alluring!
