Great video! Im the composer for a new upcoming game called Chronicles of the Wolf. Oscar Araujo, the composer for this game composed the title theme and another guest song in it! Should be coming out around February keep your eye out for it!

It was an interesting time. I still play the PS2 games using PS3 on livestreams. Also nice to see some mechanics from Lament and Curse of Darkness transferring into Lords of Shadow. Gothic horror was nice after the other Gothic Horror Legacy of Kain game series

Wait till you play Armored Core 3 and Silent Line. The series reached perfection with those two.

I spent the whole summer of 2006 playing the two PS2 Castlevanias. The music was epic I had no idea game soundtracks could be so awesome! I couldn't beat either game until I bought those big glossy game guides that gave me maps and hints. But the Battle devil chart in the Brady guide is wrong, you have to look it up online.

A simple thing they can fix is the lunge for Vincent. Simply make it go further with less end lag and the option to shoot while it's going. That way you can feel active and mobile at the same time. Also a super super simple fix: set item usage to down on the D-pad. Then set left and right to cycle back and forth. That way you don't accidentally use an item like you can currently do. (You can manually set it to work this way for items as is but it should be the default).

I love lords of shadow saga and lords of shadow 2 is my favorite

I did NOT have a good time with this game, mostly because a mounting pile of grievances I have with the gameplay and estructure of the game, but it's been cool to see a detailed perspective on the story and characters, which were cool! I did manage to finish Mirror of Fate, but can't say the same for the first Lords of Shadow; I played two of the 12 chapters of that game, one in 2017 or so and one in 2024, and I can say with certainty I don't think I will ever finish it, it feels bloated and unnecessarily long and sluggish. I guess they did get better at it with MoF, thankfully!

I recall Robert Carlyle absolutely killing it in this one, which was undermined a bit by the jarring animations. Especially at that last bit with Trevor.

Honestly whenever Castlevania is involved, I only remember the OG timeline but with the new timeline, all I remember was the first game ripped off God of War, Shadow of the Colossus and that how they made Dracula was confusing and that the second game made zero sense to me. Was glad that years later, we went back to the OG timeline thanks to the collections we have been getting......Now if only we could get a Julius game.

Legacy of Kain series is still a better Castlevania. Defiance did similar things but better. Still want to play this, thanks!

😂1:19 This is exactly what 2d castlevania has always tried to be. For example, LOS didnt copy GOW, GOW translated castlevania into 3d before they did themselves on ps2. Lords of shadows is what castlevania always was.

Mirror Of Fate to me is the best among the 3 Lords of Shadows games. It's like Mercurysteam pay homage to previous Castlevania games. Great video by the way.

I wish that they opted to continue these types of games instead. Or at least relegated them for more filler stories. For example in LoS 2 Viktor Belmont was the last Belmont in that timeline if I recall. Meaning we could've gotten quite a few games to fill the gap from Simon to Viktor. Would've been neat to see.

Awesome vid! Mirror of Fate is certainly one of the underappreciated titles in the series. My only gripe with it is that they didn't use the storybook art style from the cutscenes in the main game too: those would've served as something really unique and I would've loved to see a game like that. Can't wait for the LoS2 video! Fun fact: A 2D God of War game already exists: Betreyal. It is an official mobile Java game, which kind of slaps to be honest. It depicts Kratos' first time killing a god.

This game have some of the best art desgin and direction ever^. And i always liked what they did with more than 20 years of Lore to rework it into a nice storyline full of winks from all over the franchise. Gabriel may be a little boring protagonist..but its an obsessed and deeply traumatized man with only one thing on his mind...he dont need to be entertained or theatrical in the Cronquist way. "Ill kill you , and the night" might be one of the most "I wanted to be badass but i really messed it up" one liner ever 🤣. You might be able to guess that Gabriel cares about his wife since you see him depressed and going in a revenge /suicide mission because she died instead of going like "well, medieval life sucks..." and gettin another wife. The narrative shows a broken man who loved his wife and its shown during the game. Ill get it , the tone on Castlevania is ussually more bombastic dramatic, but to be honest, they often had go too far and thats why its an adventure/action franchise and not a horror one even with the horror envelop. Its a really cheesy franchise with japanese over the top stuff and its amazing. But i appreciate what MS did with the tone. Its the first time i really cared about a character's motivation in a Castlevania game.

Excellent, nuanced take of the story. I was always curious how the story went, as I played through LoS1. This story is interesting and I think that they did really well. Also, nitpicky thing here, but Belnades is pronounced bell*nah*dehs. Other than that, great pacing and great video. You’ll get some much deserved subs soon.

I always wondered why trevors' story was the last chapter of the game. Now it makes sense,out of three playable characters, trevor was the most ready,the most prepared, and the most arrogant of the three.

The thing that *actually* makes a Castlevania game a Castlevania game, are sad, beautiful men that I can call baby girl. But for real tho, I really like the designs for Simon and Trevor in this game. Alucard's design is a bit wonky, which is a shame because the character concept art of him looks cool as hell, and I wish they'd been able to adapt it a little closer to that. I will give them props tho for giving his coat that gold trim with horizontal buckles, that visually echoes SotN Alucard, without being an exact copy so as not to give the twist away.

I’ve actually been going through my own journey with the lords of shadow games, close to beating 1, and I had been planning on skipping this one funnily enough, just cause I heard it wasn’t that interesting, but after this video, I definitely think I’m gonna give it a shot! Looking forward to your video on 2, lets see if I can finish 1 before you get to it

8:55 the point of the game is also that it's about being falsely convicted of a murder and being "dishonored" as a result, then when faced with the opportunity to make things go your way, whether you clean your name and regain your honor by showing you aren't a murderer after all (low chaos) or instead by embracing your new reputation (high chaos) The 2nd game is even more straightforward with this idea with the Crown Killer business

Ninja Gaiden Sigma wasn't trying to be like NG Black or the OG Ninja Gaiden it was trying to fit in with Ninja Gaiden 2 from its graphics and remade enemies also Black and OG NG are kinda a drag while Sigma felt like a decent pace from its story Sigma even includes MY GIRL RACHEL so even if Sigma tried to be and Homage or tribute to NG I'm glad it felt like its own thing I loved it despite it being a updated port to an OG Xbox game but I hated the puzzle segments in Black and Sigma was being worked on at the same time NG 2 was being developed but Sigma 1 and Sigma 2 had a different director while Tomonobu Itigaki worked on DOA and the main line games before being let go from Team Ninja

Temper your expectations for Lords of Shadow 2. It is a violently mixed bag.

Great video, look forward to the rest of the trilogy. This game was my first 'vania, and as someone who had GoW as their fave game in the time this game came out, I have only fond memories. Incredible vistas, super memorable boss fights, great music, fun combat if not a bit repetitive, this game left me with a feeling of emptiness after finishing it, a breathtaking experience for me, I could so easily forgive the shortcomings. This game did what an action adventure should do, the feeling of adventure this game gives you is fivalled by so few games out there. And somehow I like Lords of Shadow 2 even more. The video should be good, I'm excited
