I just got a dog off of Facebook. Gorgeous 9 months old and is HUGE. Only thing I didn't know was he is a high content wolf dog.... The vet told me. So now I am trying to absorb all the information I can. He is so smart.

Good advice for people. As a Wolf dog myself I would add that these thoughtful considerations are appropriate for any dog adoption. Not just hybrids like me. If you don't have the time to spend on this incredible journey, then do not get one. Unless you are incomplete and unhappy without the love and companionship that only a Wolf dog experience can bring to you take up some other activity. And you will have to make a choice. It will come to that. My human loves me above all others. Because I bring him love, joy, laughter and happiness more than all others.

Beautiful! I'm new to this channel and enjoying it very much. I also feel like much of what's being said also applies to livestock guardian breeds that are kept as pets & companions: So many people thinking that if they're motivated enough to go to puppy training classes, they can keep a Great Pyrenees in a house-share, or even an apartment. That's crazy; much like wolfdogs, these breeds NEED their outside space to patrol, and run and play in. They also need "their" person present if they are bonded to a human; or if not (if kept in their original role as flock guardians), they greatly benefit from another dog to keep them company, as that's what they did for thousands of years: Guarding flock & property in teams or small groups. What I personally totally fell into (trap-wise) was owners' stories about how friendly and docile Estrela Mountain Dogs are (I live in Portugal) unless of course, you enter their property. Boy was I wrong: I only discovered later that there's basically 2 main types of them: One the gentle giant that may bark when strangers approach, but is very likely to take matters further, and two, the more nervous, prone to fear-based aggression, extremely suspicious kind that, even WITH socialization to anyone and everything, will at some point "flip their switch" during adolescence, and start going after people and other dogs, and sometimes nipping them (mostly pressure bites, but sometimes drawing blood). Oh, and being Mastiffs, they are also not at all easy to influence, let alone obedience-train. Oh, AND contrary to popular belief, their prey-drive can be quite high. My Estrela puppy was of the second type. Boy oh boy was raising her up to the 2 year mark tough! Then, around 3 years, she turned into this amazingly responsive, gentle, affectionate dog. Totally a 1-person dog bonded to me like Moira's boy's bonded to her. But if someone without experience in managing big, "aggressive" dogs would've bought my girl as a puppy... They would've run into trouble for sure during her adolescence. - I'm a former professional Schutzhund trainer and learned my trade training and looking after Rottweilers, and even for me, raising that Estrela through a seemingly unending puberty was tough. I hear that wolfdogs, too, mature very slowly (take up to 3 years?), so owners might have this phenomenon as well.

This channel is fantastic, just found it today - so inspiring to watch, and informative, too! We only have 3 dogs; can't imaging caring for FOURTY-three, wow, and you sure have well-designed enclosures as well.

How old are they? Both are beautiful. I love wolves 🐺 and I would trust them. I would love to go to the wolf sanctuary’s where I can love on them.

Are your two wolf dogs mixed and if so with what? How much wolf do they have? Are they friendly with your family and friends and neighbors?

We have a 50/50 Pyrenees/wolf and she’s on another plane of intelligence than the other dogs. She guards me and my wife while we eat and nips her siblings if they get too close. She’s such a joy to have. She looks a lot like kuna.

I knew this dude who had a wolf dog that was 25% wolf, 25% boerboel and 50% pitbull. That dog was the meanest thing I've ever seen. Also the most beautiful too.

i got a female that's 63% greywolf 37% silver sable german shepard she goes everywhere with me got her trained to voice commands she is very afraid of kids under 4 foot tall she won't go near them her best buddy is my chihuahu and my mtn view cur dog, she is 6 yrs old

We rescued what we thought was a GSD mix that we thought was abused due to his timidity, shyness and skiddishness. After many months of patience and reading articles, it looks like Dasher is Czechoslovakian wolf dog. We called him Dasher since he took off running one night last Christmas after we got him. Your videos really helped confirm all of his behaviors seem a lot like your mid to low content wolf dogs. Thanks for the education. Joe

I really wish you'd say more to actually discourage ownership, considering 90% of them end up euthanized within 2 years of being born. I'm not totally against ownership but everything said in this video makes them sound like just another difficult dog such as a Malamute or Husky.

Had a high content wolf hybrid for 13yrs. The most amazing animal you can imagine. Scary smart. Losing her was really hard.

Had a low content wolf dog. Would pause before following any command as if he was thinking to himself, "something tells me I don't have to do what you say, but I can't quite remember what it is. So... ok." He was a very good boy.

What content would a wolfgog with a full timber wolf father and a full malamute mom be?
