I Just Bought a $400 Tile Blade!! Was it Worth it??
I honestly can't believe I actually paid $411.04 for a Monolit Glass Blade. I know glass blades cost more than the average tile blade, but never did I ever think I would pay this much for 1 blade.
The saying "There's nothing like the right tool for the job" is the main reason I decided to purchase this blade. I had to cut a unique shaped tile, that was a blend of Mirrored Glass & Marble. If you've ever cut mirrored glass, you know that any imperfection in the cut WILL BE VISIBLE, especially when grouted. To make things even more challenging, this glass was 1/2" thick. I had another glass tile blade which I loved, but it simply wasn't doing the job with this tile.
I remembered my friends at San Diego Marble & Tile mentioning a glass blade that is unrivaled, so I decided to give it a try to make this project come out amazing.
The blade is the Monolit CPV250. I know Monolit is a reputable brand, so that gave me some purchasing confidence.
I can honestly say, that I was greatly impressed with this blade. It cut way faster & cleaner than I imagined. The cuts on this mirrored glass tile, literally came out PERFECT! The cut edge was so clean, that I didn't even need to smooth the edges. One of the greatest things that impressed me about this blade was that I didn't need to cut the glass tile upside down. Normally you would need to cut glass tile upside down to prevent the paper backing from tearing with the cut, but this blade cut so clean, even when I cut it right side up.
Yes, I wish it didn't cost so much, but for this project it was the perfect tool for the job. The good news is, I did find it on Amazon for $100 cheaper! Here's my Amazon Affiliate Link for the blade:

Do you have any suggestions for cutting 90 deg inside corners on hard Italian large format tile? I have had no problem doing this on other porcelain tile. BTW, I was just at SD Tile & Marble and they recommended the 3.5" Montolit DNA blade to use with an angle grinder. Holding an angle grinder straight to feather out the remaining chunk seems pretty hard to do without messing up. What do you suggest to get the last bit out of the corner?
@xolomartinez6036 how are you cutting most of the 90 degree cut, with a saw?
@@HowToTileLikeaPro Using a Dewalt 24000 10 inch wet tile saw plus an Alpha Porcellana blade from SD Tile & Marble to get the majority of the material out of the way. I cut up to the corner using the wet saw. I'm left with some stuble in the corner cut. Also trying not to overshoot the cut but just up to it. Trying to get a clean corner - getting those last few millimeters, thousandths of an inch in the corner. Someone told me about making a core cut in the corner but no idea how that supposed to work.
@xolomartinez6036 I usually use the grinder with a diamond blade to clean up that corner... you do need a steady hand, but once you do it a couple times, you get used to it and it becomes easier 👍. If you didn't want to use the grinder method, you can flip the tile upside down and cut it on the saw the same way you did the initial cuts👌. Obviously just cut it slow so you don't cut too far. Hope this helps!

How long have you been doing Tile work and be honest how is your lung health?🫁 Considering Silica dust exposure causes lung cancer. I unfortunately suffer from OCD. I’ve been a hardworking dedicated Tile Helper for 2 years now and I’m extremely worried about getting silicosis lung cancer since I’m grinding tile, mixing thinset and grout all day everyday. Company I work for don’t give a fuck about their workers physical health. OSHA’s wet dream seeing the all the constant violations on the jobsites we work on 😂😅
It's good to be aware and take precautions, like wearing a mask. I usually use the n95 with a vent, but I also have a respirator with filters when I'll around alot of dust👍. I've been doing this over 27 years, masks are worth the money. 💯💯
How is your lungs health ? 🫁 do you wear a respirator when mixing thinset and grinding tile ? I’ve been a hard-working dedicated good attitude helper for 2 years now at a small company. My paychecks get taxed so it’s good I get money back during tax return season But my problem is the company at work for is so small shitty and unorganized and the owners don’t give a fuck about anybody but themselves. And I get made fun of for caring about my lungs health 🫁. I get made fun of every single day for wearing a respirator when I mix thinset grind tile or do anything that causes the silica dust to be kicked up all over which is everything because everything is so unorganized at the company I work for have to rip up the whole fucking layout and scrape off all the thin set all the fucking time. Getting To the point where I don’t know if it’s really worth it anymore, especially when I only get paid $20 an hour and I’ve been here two years breaking a sweat everyday, I know hard-working helpers like myself are in high demand so I’m going to demand a five dollar raise very soon and tell him if you can’t give me the raise then I’ll just go work for a different Tile Company that actually cares about their workers because I know helpers are in high demand, especially helpers who have a good attitude and know their place, Helpers like myself who don’t have a problem with authority yes sir no sir right away sir I’m on it.
Caution ⚠️ the idea 💡 is cool but you are placing you fingers too close to the blade, please 🙏 working on that aspect for safety reasons Thanks 🙏 again Good video Thought 💭
Glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate the concern about my fingers, but tile blades are the safest around 👍 Any tile man would agree 💯
@@HowToTileLikeaPro from the video, it looks like you hands 🙌 are close to the blades so I say be on the safe side. Otherwise nice video I say, Safety First when it comes to power tools and sharp objects.
Have you been wearing a respirator when you mix thinset grind tile or whenever there’s silica dust being kicked up all over? Lung cancer from silica dust is the biggest reason why I considering putting in my 2 week notice and going back to my old job. I’m Not trying to lung cancer for such a small shitty unorganized Tile company. And there’s been so many times where the layout has been fucked up and we have to rip up every single fucking tile and scrape all the thin set off it and then and then put them back in and just the silica dust gets kicked the fuck up all over, so many bullshit that I work for so fucking annoying.
🤣 yea, there's nothing like working with a good team💪💯. As far as the silica dust, I always wear a mask when grinding, and use a vacuum behind the grinder. It's definitely not good to breath silica dust, so I always have masks around. But I know a guy who's been setting tile over 30 years and never uses a mask🤦♂️ but he's fine...so 🤷♂️. But masks aren't too pricey, and worth the peace of mind. I always use a respirator with filters, if I'll be around alot of dust👍
@@HowToTileLikeaPro I also know a good friend // old supervisor who’s been setting Tile for 30 years and he doesn’t have silicosis lung cancer I’ve never seen him wear a mask or respirator and I asked him for advice and tips how to avoid getting it and he told me 6-9 grams of omega 3 Projoba brand a day helps keep the clear the lungs. 🫁 but the thing is he’s a super health conscious guy a total “health nut” he said many times to me. He eats super healthy foods and takes care of his body very well. And I want to do the same but it’s hard to commit and discipline your self to that kind of thing. Takes a lot of extra effort and dedication. I’m going to keep asking for advice how keep my lungs healthy besides wearing a good respirator when around a lot construction site dust. Especially silica dust. I get made fun of and called a pussy everyday for wearing a respirator by a lot of my superiors and it really starting to fuck with my morale and mood on the job. I quit smoking weed too so that should also help my lungs.
Bought the same blade years ago, I was totally impressed. Definitely worth the money.
@@lorisbarbieri7771 I agree! 💯 How long did your blade last you?
@@HowToTileLikeaPro I’ve had it for seven years. But I only use 2-3 times a year. But I’m sure glad I have it when I need it.
Good to know but the tile was not my style but good tips thanks
Glad it was helpful 👌💯💯
Great content. Really like that you cover the Rubi tools. Background music too loud though. The volume at the end when you were talking was much better.
@dvongartzen Thanks, I appreciate the feedback, regarding the background music👌👍
Floating is pointless these days. They make so many different options for shimming your board. Or you can sister in studs or plane your studs. I hated floating walls. It works good but it’s too much labor and if someone else wants to re do that shower in 20 years, they will be cursing you out haha
I don't float as much as I used to, but some builders still request it so 💪. It's actually faster than boards & waterproofing, what I don't like about it is the mess🤣🤷♂️
Is the dewalt 10 in the same saw ? Abd the beast ? They look the same to me .
I haven't tried the Dewalt or Beast saw, most saws are similar, with minor differences, like Horse Power etc. This Rubi is the only one I know of the has an extension to cut 4ft tile though. And the fold up feature is great for moving it around 👍
I have had my bucket saver for a year now and it’s still brand new. Although I don’t let thin set sit in there because I only mix what I will use before it times out. So mine always get washed out. But it’s nice to know if I do leave it or forget… it won’t be a wasted bucket
If it were the price of 3-4 buckets I’d buy. It’s like buying ten buckets though. I’d rather have ten buckets
I hear ya about the cost, but I love never having to clean a bucket at the end of a long work day👌💯
Ask them if they want to keep those remaining slab chunks of the wall, and put a cool Design
That would be cool👌👌
Funkin buckets..

What pattern did you lay that in?
@@electricflys 1/3rd offset 👌
Never use twist cap type clips. The torque twists the tile and opens the gap up. Also they are murderous on your hands.
I've had the same problem... but if you use the anti-motion plates in this video, it won't spread the joints 👍

They definitely come in handy from time to time🙌💯
Beautiful! What thin set ? Is that stuck to painted drywall ?
Laticrete 253, over painted drywall👍... great thinset
Funny cuz all the UA-cam marble installers spot bond
@ZomBeatBrainZ Spot Bonding for Slab would be fine....if the spots "bonded". This installer tried a bit of both and neither bonded🤦♂️
Bond is the composite action between the finite element and the structure. If it is marble and the wall in this case or mortar between bricks: BOND ACTION is CRITICAL!
💯💯👏
How long was it there before you demoed it?
17 years😮 I definitely think the glass door bracket and Grout were the only things holding it up
How do you square it
Rest the square against the tray, where you would place a piece of tile, then push it through close enough to the blade. If the gap between the blade and square is not consistent, adjust the saw until it is👍
Sorry, I meant the blade shape , pointed or rounded blades always split tile as blade passes.
@jonmoreno9703 the quality of the blade makes tremendous difference, try getting a premium blade...the difference is mind blowing 🤯💯💯
Did you try a chalk line to mark the tiles where you wanna cut?
Chalk wouldn't stick to this tile, since it's a high gloss to tile.
Just use spacers.....
Tile RIZZ😂
🤣🤣
Yea that’s a good one right there
Indeed...I love how much time it saves me🙌
Mapei ultra light does the same thing .!! But ouch I’m way too o.c.d for this mosaic .!! It’s not on the sheets properly and there’s sizing issues ..!!! Enough to drive me insane ..!!!
Right! Irregular Tiles definitely require massive patience. I have to try Ultra Light, but this thinset is ridiculous for non-sag 💯
@@HowToTileLikeaPro ultra light is awesome as well ..!!!👍🏻
That’s what my contractor used and my tiles look like garbage lol
Oh geez 🤦♂️🤦♂️ sorry to hear about that
Germans use this way of tiling for 100 years or more, top to bottom.
Between Schluter & Blanke corporations, Germans have tremendously improved the tile world 🙌🙌
That is some good s***.
Indeed, it truly stands alone💪💯
Nope. Stop speeding. Thanks.
good job
Much appreciated! 🙌
one of my problems with single component grouts has been the ability to have full joints on rectified tile. I haven't tried prism scg yet and I assume its difficult to keep them full. Is that your experience with it so far?
I did have a little issue on a shower where the edge was showing the color of the porcelain, so I went over it the next day to make it fuller. Not sure if it was the tile or my method, but I'm getting used to working with this Grout. I hope i don't have that issue again, I'll post an update video in another month. But that was the only project I had an issue with, so hoping for the best, because the color consistency is unreal, gives me peace to not have discoloration issues 👍
Very good information, but PLEASE take the time at the end of project to SLOWLY pan/video the ENTIRE finished project. Would have liked to have seen more of details, like around the window, etc.
Ooh.. nice idea, thanks! 👍
