Can you use buttons for decoration but not closure?

I run a non-profit sewing studio in Chantilly, VA. We are committing to making 10 dresses for 2024. Lots of girls from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be helping with this project. Such a wonderful way for my students to learn how to sew.

There are 2 styles of feet for Bernina - the old style for machines manufactured 1954-1998, which have the two pins on top, and the new style for machines manufactured after 1996. They're solidly built too and I buy them on sale. I recently bought a new Bernina and the extra feet I bought with a Bernina 25 years ago now fit the new machine. What's not to love about that? I have found that some of the cheaper feet sold with other brands of machine are not so well made. A walking foot that came with my Brother machine had a warped sole straight out of the box. I've had some nice machines of other brands but my Berninas are my favourite machines. They're just so well made and reliable, and there are a lots of little features here and there that indicate someone put some thought into designing a good machine. They're the icing on the cake. The enjoyment I get from sewing with a Bernina is like the enjoyment some get from driving a luxury car. It's worth paying extra for the quality.

Thank you for this great suggestion that we use the Liner as the Muslin. I am going to be working on my first Princess Seam pattern and I loved your logic in choosing a size and how you gave yourself a 1/4" bust adjustment, just by using a smaller side seam allowance. That was a great lesson for me as I am going to be using the Golden Rule Pattern book for all my Patterns. I need to add the side seams myself. Planning ahead for the larger seam allowance is awesome logic. I didn't see a Grain Line on your tissue. How would you know where to line up for the Grain? Thanks again.

Being frugal, we have a collection site about half an hour south of us, is it okay to sent my dresses to her, if there is some wonderful reason to send to you I will do that, but I just wondered. Let me know! Thanks for doing this wonderful charity event.

Would an adult extra small dress made with an extra small bust adjustment work for the older girls? I was going through some of my patterns, and one company has the bodices ready made in the pattern for xs, sm, reg, and LG busts, and the measurements seem pretty much to match girls age 12, and 14.

I have a question. What fabric do you use to line a dress for project dress a girl and where do you get it? I have some cute cotton fabrics taht i would like to use but I would like to line them. It is hard to find affordable all white 100% cotton!!

I am fearless making crafty items (mostly ). To a degree yes. Trial runs with inexpensive materials YES!!! You are one of my favorite sewists. Your friends are absolutely amazing and beautiful too (personalities ❤❤❤) mwah my sewing 🧵 friend (you are inspirational)😊

What a creative, and yes, fearless-sew cover up, Mari! I enjoyed watching you figure it out, and i love it! I’m afraid I’m not a fearless sewist, but you’re encouraging me! I was taught by perfectionists (back in the “old” days) and it’s been difficult to break out of that. 😂 😘
