    Hi I’m contemplating getting the same table top from Lowes or perhaps an unfinished from Home Depot. I noticed a chip in the corner of your table @ 20:31. Did the table come that way? On the Lowes site there are a lot of bad reviews saying their table arrived with damage to the corners or even cracks. Nice job on the build!

    • @iBJanky
      @iBJanky 4 дні тому

      Yes, it came that way. Sometimes butcher blocks have very slight imperfections. That little rounded off corner is so tiny in real life that I don't even notice it, and does not affect the function of the desk in any way. As long as the butcher block you get doesn't have any major cracks or defects, you should be fine. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! 😸

    I'm doing the same thing atm but ngl I'm kind of confused on some parts (just came from the butcher block finishing vid LOL). Some questions I have are 1. for the polyurethane that you used, has it been safe around your cat? That's one thing I'm worried about. Another is, how long did you wait before installing the desk legs, or how long did you let the poly cure before taking it inside and putting it to use? I've read that it can take almost a month to fully cure and some people said it's fine after a few days and others said to wait. Lastly, did you pre-drill holes before putting the screws into the block? Scared of splitting it LOL. Anyways, thank you for these videos :)

    • @iBJanky
      @iBJanky 9 днів тому

      The polyurethane is definitely safe for pets. As a matter of fact, my cats area always on my desk whenever I'm trying to get any work done 😅 It does take a couple of weeks for polyurethane to fully cure, but you don't have to wait that long to install the legs. I myself just waited a couple of days until the poly was dry to the touch, and then I installed the legs. No issues whatsoever. I personally drilled some some pilot holes before putting the screws in. I find they make putting the screws in easier. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Do you stain both sides? If so, how long did you wait before flipping it over to do the other side?

    • @iBJanky
      @iBJanky Місяць тому

      Yes, I stained both sides, but I didn’t have to wait at all. Let me explain… I started with the bottom side first. I would lay the butcher block top side down on the table, and I used some cardboard to protect its surface. After working on the bottom side, I would flip it over and use these things called painters pyramids. They allowed me to work on the top side while the bottom side would dry. Since the butcher block it pretty heavy, the painters pyramids made these small indentations on the bottom side, which doesn’t really matter anyway since it’s not visible. In order to control excess stain or polish, I wouldn’t apply them on the edges until the butcher block was on the painters pyramids, because the pyramids lift the butcher block above the table surface, and you’ll be able to check the underside of the butcher block and wipe off any excess stain/poly. I just repeated this process until I applied the proper number of coats I needed. I hope that helps. Anything else, let me know 😎👍🏼

    currently working on a block fairly similiar but slightly darker. its got a 3 layer thick of lacquer coating which I'm trying to remove to stain it darker, however it's fairly stressful and expensive. I haven't started with the top side, would you recommend using the same lacquer strip on the top then sand and stain, or should I go straight to sanding off all the lacquer and then staining with no lacquer thinner? So far the bottom side on the bottom left has a little bit of stain/yellowish tint to it after the thinner, however that could be due to not wiping it off with turpentine before applying a 2nd layer of thinner.

    Is the 1615 too big for domestic checked bag restrictions? For example, United Airlines allows L"+W"+D"=62" Anything larger and they charge extra.

    Your story is so similar to mine!! I was on a waiting list for 14 months and mine finally came in about three weeks ago!! I was gifted a Rolex Submariner Date about 20 years ago and sold it about 15 years ago. I regretted that decision ever since I sold it. I vowed to get another one but this time I wanted the Submariner without the cyclops and the date for the very same reasons that you mentioned in your video. I absolutely love the clean, classic, symmetrical look of this watch!! I will never part with this watch!! It’s absolutely perfect!! Congratulations on your acquisition!!
