The Gaming Harbinger

Приєднався 11 січ 2019
The Gaming Harbinger is all about analyzing and discussing video game news and weeb topics. You can also expect reviews on games as well as anime series.
I created this channel due to coming across multiple gaming channels ranting too much. I wanted to provide a space where we can critique things without flipping out. I also think we need to see more older gamers and anime reviewers in this space.
From 1999 to 2002 I was apart of the Yahoo! Clubs community and ran several different anime forums. By 2000 I was co-founder of the biggest Anime forum (Tenchiville), co-founder of the biggest Sailor Moon forum (Sailor Moon Toonami Blockparty), and founder of the biggest Serial Experiments Lain forum on Yahoo! Clubs.
I have been attending anime conventions for over 20 years. Because I have received such a positive response from my convention videos, I will continue to make them.
Some day I would like to create longer documentary style videos on game creators and anime directors.

A tribute to the second oldest anime convention in the U.S.
Hello! In today's video we are here to take a deep dive in Animefest's last year as a big convention. This is a convention that happened in Arlington, Texas on July 25-28th 2024. I went to over 20 events at this convention. I wanted to make sure we give Animefest it's proper send off. So I hope I did the convention justice with this coverage.
This video has become my longest video to date. With that being stated, please let me know if you prefer one long video or to break it down into parts. I went with making it a long video this go around, but I am okay with breaking it up if that is what the people want. I am pretty malleable when it comes to this, but I would love everyone's opinion.
If you see yourself in the video, please leave a comment and we will add it to this description! :D

Rise of the Ronin is amazing!

In today's video we are here to talk about Rise of the Ronin a PS5 exclusive. This is a game that has sat in my collection shrink wrapped for 5 months. I am so glad I took a moment to just load it up and try it out. I am so enamored by this game. Some of the impressions and reviews I saw had me a little worried. That was a mistake. This game is everything I would want in a Team Ninja game. The ...

In this review we are going to cover my entire convention experience. This will include all the panels and events I attended as well as how the convention as a whole measures up to similar cons.

This game needs to come to the PC then the graphics won’t be as much of an issue
Tbh bro i had the same feeling and i love this game more than GOT i was addicted to ronin
I actually cancelled my pre-order of this game, because after seeing the watered down game mechanics (in contrast to their Nioh games), I was pretty disappointed. Nioh 2 was fantastic, and from what I've seen this just seemed like a step backwards, or sideways at the very best. With that said, I'll still give the game a go eventually, maybe on a 50% off sale.
They need to get a good director like Flanagan to do an Evil Within movie and it’ll reignite the hype train for Evil Within and we’ll get more!!
I really really hope that team ninja adds a proper endgame like they did with nioh 2 and wo long man. Its such a damn good game and combat is fucking addictive and a huge dopamine rush
I honestly think it's the most underrated game of the current gen. Not going to pretend it's perfect, but it really is an awesome game once you give yourself some time to get into it. So satisfying winning a duel, and it's fun to explore as well.
Day one player and loving it choosing it over Dragon’s dogmas 2 with no regrets on it 😊
Well SAID, have a MIND of your OWN. I bought and platinum the game and enjoyed every minute. Sorry FIGHTING COWBOY - Mr. Everything has to be a soulike or it's garbage creator KMA.
Are you telling me Fighting Cowboy had a negative take on this game?🫤 I haven't watched any of his videos in a while. I used to watch him when I was obsessed with Monster Hunter World.
@@TheGamingHarbinger Fighting Cowboy believes any game that you can't invaded or is not a soul like game or as he deems isn't challenging enough. ( I say don't just play the first round of Rise of the Ronin take your ass to NG +++ if you need to get YOUR ROCKS OFF Dude) is usually LAME and he see it as AVERAGE ( Good thing I have a MIND of my OWN Mr. Cowboy ). Games where Cowboy doesn't get a chance to display his arrogance and Mr. MACHO approach when talking about his skills ( HUMBLE your F-ING self DUDE ) you have played over 3million games and you should be good. Hey Cowboy if you want a challenge BUILD your own F-ING game dude I have platinum them all ELDEN RINGS, BLOODBORNE, LIES of P, BLACK MYTH WUKONG, FIRES of Rubicon, Dark Souls, Witcher 3 Assassin Creed Mirage and the list goes on. My final comment is RISE of the Ronin to ME is just as good as any game including from software games and I enjoyed every minute and anyone talking about the graphics need to STFU.
The game is so good it's only needs some better animations and graphics and it can easily be a ghost of tsushima sequel
Oh dear, When a convention is going away…I feel the heart tear 💔 😢
Yeah, it is kind of sad. I will say they are making better choice than some other conventions. There have been other conventions that have been passed to new owners and then derail in quality quite fast.
RotR 2 is is production and will star a female protagonist based off of a dubious female samurai in Japanese history. Isn't that wonderful?
Glad to see this pop up on my feed! 😁👍
Its been long overdue! Hopefully I did this year justice. 😌
Iv been enjoying it and the cutscenes are awesome. Forget Shadows woke garbage, this feels realistic and gritty, I love it.
It really is a gritty game. So glad people are seeing how good this game is.
Hey , I play this game to . I think they patched a lot , and now it's the right time to play it. I am obsessed with it. 60+ hours , and I will go to platinum trophy. My friends buy and play after they launch it , back then it has so many problems, but now it's fine , the deepness of fighting sistem , it's just amazing. I like the characters , and story line to . So just play it. Peace.
You bring up something I was wondering when I was playing...have updates improved things and I totally missed the bad stuff? Its Hard for me to say since I waited 5 months to play it.
@@TheGamingHarbinger I don't know how many patch arrived since March , but definitely they worked on it. 😅 And I'm so grateful 😁
It's also the classic anime that influenced Xenogears alongside VOTOMS and Five Star Stories, especially if we're talking about the concept of the Ide being a similar concept to the Wave Existence.
I have been thinking about checking out Votoms...🤔
@@TheGamingHarbinger You really should watch VOTOMS dude, it's fucking awesome.
this game is amazing and the graphics are not everything it's how the game plays but that's me lol. the combat is nice smooth with fast combat, good combos to use very fun game with good replay to the story too if you want to.
Ninja gaiden Reboot would be fire!❤❤❤
Yeah, as first, I was super hyped for the release. Then, some people said that the combat is too much Rock/Paper/Scissors and complained about the super armor of enemies. I've decided not to get it. Still, I was interested and saw the game in a store for 40,-€. Haven't bought it that moment, but I gave the demo a chance. And my god, I was just so hooked all the way through and I got back to the shop to buy the game. Rock/Paper/Scissors? I was rarely so engaged with a combat system with all the options I have and how to engage an encounter. Plus, I really like the visuals and never saw a problem with them (that being said, visuals aren't that important to me). So yeah, it's a really fine game and more people should give it a chance. At least by playing the demo, which is fairly meaty and shows what the game has to offer. And bonus points for the char switching mid combat. Normally, I'm not a fan of this and I just wanna play as my char... but the switching opened up more strategic options, so I use the mechanic whenever possible.
I bought it day 1, no regrets, this game is fun. Story could’ve been a little better though imo.
I rented it at Blockbuster in the 90s.
It’s not fair too compare any samurai game took Ghost of Tsushima…It’s all alone at top…
I absolutely loved this game, it was way better than I expected. My only complaint was there’s no “true” NG+. I’d love to play through again with my upgraded character rather than the testament of souls.
You're the 2nd person to bring up the NG+. I hope they tweak this for the next game. I am nowhere close to the end...but I am sure I will eventually find out. 😌
I played the demo and it seemed like it was a pretty good game & they are awesome for even putting it in the demos category. We should be able to get a little demo of all games that release more then $50 yeah they have the trials but that’s only if you’re a ps extra member.
You convinced me! I will check this definitely out! Looks fun! You got me with the good story, good setting, good atmosphere, and historical characters part.
Great! 😀 I'm sure you have already, but even look through these comments on this video. Most people that play the game really enjoy it. The people that dislike the game are people who only played a little or overly focused on the graphics.
Man I love this game! A fun game where you can make you own character and it has a pretty interesting story. I only wish it was also on PC solely because I love modding my games on PC.
Team Ninja might eventually do that. It happened with Nioh2 before, where they announced for PC after months of the release of the game for PS4
@@KrisHenry I’m really hoping so. I had Nioh 2 on the PS but I enjoyed it even more on my PC modded.
I enjoy creation and gameplay. People say Ghost or Sekiro is better than this Rises. That maybe true, I play alot of Samurai/Ninja Ps2 games, Rise is more free to pick what weapons you want instead of base Katana, and Team Ninja gameplay is very face pace like Ninja Gaiden. I dont think they should keep doing Open World where graphics are toned down but if they do make it Nioh or Wolong version so you can fight demons instead of strong humans.
That's actually a very interesting take. I think part of the thing with the graphics is that they are using their own engine (no idea how old it is). It might be time for them to use Unreal. I think if they make another Ronin, the open world aspects will be tweaked. I think for the first time, they did a good job. But its true...its out of their usual wheel house. So they will need to make more in order to get better. I think its very feasable for them to make another Ronin and still make the other games that people expect from them. I really think they will make another Ninja Gaiden. Fighting demons over humans is definitely more badass.
I just picked this up couple days ago. Loving it. I hate I didn’t get it when it came out. Same here I heard a bunch of people on UA-cam talking bad about it like it was meh. From now on I will pay them no mind and form my own opinion. Really enjoying this game. Loved GoT and Nioh 2! The graphics don’t look bad it’s the color that is the problem. If they used a more vibrant color palette like Ghosts of Tsushima I think it would be exponentially better..the colors are kind of bland
Right?! That's exaclty what i thought. If only there was an option to choose between high or low vibrant colors
You could be onto something regarding the colors! 🤔
I played the heck out of the demo. I decided to buy it today. The combat's system is so fun and satisfying. I like the combat in this game better than Ghost of T.
I don't know why people complaining about the graphics? When I played this game, to be honest the graphics is not that bad, actually the graphics is way better than souls game! Anyway, I'm kind of gamer that only looking for the enhance combat and this game fit to my requirement! If some gamer complain this game because of only graphics? Then they are not skilled player, better stop playing video games and start watching netflix 🤭😁.
The graphics really aren't that bad. As you said...I thought we played games to have fun. 🤔 Disliking this game exclusively because of its graphical performance is insane to me. Its so good.
Yes - that fvckhead Skillup really trashed this game, leading poor sales, when actually its a gem. Fuck that Ralph guy.
i started a playthrough on my channel a few days ago because of a clip i seen on tik tok months ago, was really surprised just how much i enjoy this game. the combat is great and if you dont listen to people in your ear telling you that its a bad game you can really get into this game
Exactly my friend! I think some reviewers dropped the ball and didn't play enough of the game. I believe through word of mouth this game can keep growing and selling.
@@TheGamingHarbinger What is the issue with the game? Why do they hate on it?
@@Kenny-yl9pc There are some performance issues when it comes to the visuals. Performance mode runs at 900p and still doesn't maintain 60 fps. So its either that or play at a slightly higher resolution at 30fps. So the graphics do come off as not as vibrant as Ghost Tsushima. I think its fair to criticize it for not being on par with other playstation exclusives in terms of graphics. But graphics shouldn't be the end all be all.
I'm really hoping it gets a PC port in the near future.
I can see it happening. PC version could clean up some performance issues. It would also be a massive opportunity for Team Ninja to make sales on non-PS5 owners.
They may, bcuz they did that to Nioh2 once too, and a few months later announced to PC version
@@KrisHenry Yep. Nioh 2 PC announcement trailer dropped 8 months after PS4 release, with PC releasing 3 months after that (so 11 months total)
RotR is a good game, I've played it, beat the main game, beat the "endgame" (such as it is...), finished platinum trophy, achieved 100% completion in all areas of the base game as well as again in the "endgame", maxed out all bonds with all characters, etc, etc. While I thoroughly enjoyed this game, the combat is really enjoyable (once you get the hang of the odd parry timing), the story telling is decent and the visuals are well done BUT this game has one glaring flaw that basically makes it a play once and done: the lack of a New Game+ mode instead having it's replay mechanic implement through it's "testament of the soul" feature and the "endgame" ONLY being playable on a new, much harder difficulty that CANNOT be adjusted. This game was a 5/5 for me UNTIL I beat the base game and discovered what the "endgame" was at which point it became a 2/5 simply because of it's "endgame" or rather lack thereof. Team Ninja made a great game then ruined it's replayability with a lazy, frustrating, immersion killing "endgame" that very much is not the New Game+ experience most modern ARPGs have and the most of the gaming community has come to expect. Team Ninja isn't a bad developer by any means, but they made a horrible decision with the "endgame" for RotR; one which they will hopefully not repeat in future titles. I know my opinion of the "endgame" is highly subjective and completely personal, some will agree with me, others will not and a few will probably think I'm just a whiny idiot, fair enough. But, FOR ME, the handling of the "endgame" ruined this game for me. Up until that point though I truly was loving this game, the combat system is actually fantastic with a large variety of weapons/stances to suit just about any playstyle from tactical wait-and-counter strategies to headlong charging in like a maniac to a stealthy killing of enemies from range/cover or any combination thereof. In summary I found RotR to be a thorough enjoyable BASE game, with good storytelling, good visuals, some interesting mechanics and a great, immensely enjoyable combat system that was tarnished, rather severely in my case, by its lackluster handling of the "endgame" and resultant "meh..." feeling when dealing with it.
Thank you for sharing this information. I am nowhere close to the end. But I think what you are saying is very important. Another content creator I watched recently said he decided against playing the end game content because he felt like the value was underwhelming. So you are not alone. The thing is they don't even have to come up with a brand new end game idea...they can follow the blueprint of another successful game. I hope they make some adjustments with the next game, because they hit a homerun in every other section.
@@TheGamingHarbinger Hopefully I didn't spoil RotR for you, as I've said the BASE game is great. I intentionally avoided as many specifics as I could so as not to spoil anything (too badly)--there are a few new "things" only unlocked after beating the base game. Once you complete the base game and unlock/experience the "endgame" I'd be curious as to your thoughts of Team Ninja's handling of said "endgame."
Why would you buy a game and let it sit shrink-wrapped for 5 months. Stop listening to other people's opinion and play the game.
You're mixing two circumstances that have nothing to do with each other. Based off of the information I shared, I can see why you arrived at that conclusion. It was shrink wrapped for 5 months because I have too many games. 😬😬😬
Combat Combat and Combat is the only thing i like about this game
There are still other things I like...but at least like the most important thing. 😂
Didn’t play this yet but nioh 2 is my favorite game of all time . They need to change engine and do nioh 3 pleeeeeease . I’ll play this one at some point .
I wouldn't say the combat is as intricate as Nioh 2, but I would say its deeper than Wolong. You might find yourself comparing to Nioh, but I think you would still enjoy it overall. Team Ninja do need to move to a new engine. Its time. That is very valid point!
Damn i remember the 1850's great time O.O
I say this to people all the time, but no one believes me. 🙃
Yeah i started last week. This game is so much fun. The combat is 10/10 relationship building is 10/10 story is 10/10. So what if the graphics arent top notch, the gameplay is insane. Isn't that whats supposed to matter? While i dont regret getting DD2 when it released, i was on the fence about which to buy and now i can say that RotR is to me a much better game overall. People like to compare it to Ghosts of Tsushima, and while visually stunning GoT falls short when compared with RotR in any other way. Just my personal opinion
Isn't it weird that if this was a smaller studio, people would be saying graphics are not the most important thing? Its annoying. I don't think its fair to compare Team Ninja's game to a first party title. Team Ninja has been around a while and are not an idie studio. But that doesn't mean you should lump them with companies that have massive budgets. Any ways, I am happy the response this video is getting. I couldn't agree more with your statements. I hope we get a second game in a few years! 😀
@@TheGamingHarbinger I hope the same. This game is the first single player game I've genuinely enjoyed since Elden Ring.
They should've really released this on pc
I agree. I think there is still a chance it could happen.
Glad to see this game its receiving the love it deserves!
Yes! Team Ninja seems to be pleased with sales...so I think we could get another one at some point.
This game looks like the way of the samurai role playing game I’ve always wanted. I can’t wait to play it.
I think you will enjoy it. If you don't like the movement or the flow of your attacks, change the stance and/or the weapon.
Just bought it on sale. I’ve been waiting to play it since release day. I’m stoked
Its a good game and you have a lot of variety in terms of combat.
what are your thoughts on it? Im thinking of getting it aswell
I have not yet played RotR, but I absolutely agree to your take on other "reviewers". Unfortunately, we live in a time, where it seems to be "fashionable" to hate things. And so-called "content creators" simply seem to give games bad reviews in order to generate more clicks. On the other hand, there are sooo many (obviously) payed positive reviews. It's actually crazy. And as a result, I have "employed" a new strategy when picking games I personally want to play: I only look at uncommented gameplay videos and use these alone for my decision.
I actually think that is genius and a very reasonable choice. Just checking out a video and see what the first hour is like. You will see if the story starts off interesting, what the gameplay is like, what the graphics are like, etc. There is nothing inherently wrong with sharing your dislike for something when its how you truly feel. But its another thing when you exclusively talking about things you are unhappy about. I couldn't do it. I think I would feel miserable making those kind of videos. Paid reviews aren't very helpful unless you know the youtuber doesn't care if he loses that connection or not. You are almost better off watching the videos where they weren't paid and then go somewhere else for the ones they were being paid.
Evil team ninja won't give anymore 😢 I want a shadow of the erd tree addition 😫
I did read that they are very happy with the sales of the game. Sounds like we should at least get another game.
why do so many people even want dlc for games? i notice this so often on reddit. i rather have them focus on a new game than wasting time with a dlc.
Where did they say that they won't add any endgame content besides midnight? I mean at least give us an entire ng+ on midnight not just the missions
I've been playing this game for the last month. One of my top 3 so far. O got platinum yesterday midnight I can relate a lot to your opinion at the begining of the video
@@KrisHenry It's a weird feeling when you start to believe something is bad and you end up loving it. 😂 Nice work on the platinum. 💪🏾
@@TheGamingHarbingersure thing (The graphics isn't that bad tho, look like a middle ps4 game, but looks a lot better than Nioh2 and Wo Long.)
