Is Callisto Protocol a good game?

- Hello friends! In today's video we are gonna take a look into Callisto Protocol. I would like to examine the hate and complaints that the game has received. But I also want to share what my experience was like. Some of the criticism I do agree, but some of it I do not.
I know I have been hitting you guys with a lot of horror lately. We will be changing the vibe up shortly. Just be patient. I wanted to get this video out there, because we will have to discuss Mask of the Lunar Eclipse a few times when it releases, right? I can't wait.

It goes without saying that people were just expecting more Dead Space when Callisto Protocol dropped and simply upset it wasn't. I wouldn't say that's an entirely unfair expectation for gamers to have given the marketing and pedigree (Glen Schoefield) behind the game pointed in that direction, but I think you nailed it in the review why the game failed. It's main gameplay gimmick is too weak, that being the big emphasis on dodge + melee combat. That's really the only thing that truly separate Callisto from its survival-horror peers and I just don't think it's enough to salvage the game. Callisto falls short is almost every other category from exploration, scares, puzzles,set-pieces, enemy design (generic space zombies), and lackluster narrative. Nothing really stands out about this game, other than being very pretty, and the combat is too polarizing for most.
Honestly, I think its admirable they wanted to try something new with combat, but I feel the attempt was too halfhearted. I think they should have just ditched the guns completely in favor of a arsenal of improvised melee weapons like makeshifts spears, machetes, fists, clubs, shivs. Similar to a brawler/beat em up like Splatterhouse, but modern and for a modern audience. It would have fit with the theme perfectly of having little to no guns, the game does take place in PRISON after all. Overall I think its still a competent game, but most of what Callisto has going on, other survival-horror games do it better.
Thank you for the very thoughtful response! 😀 There were so many new and unique ideas in Dead Space when it released. With this game we are getting a Dead Space blueprint, but not a whole lot of new ideas. I think they will have to improve the combat as well as add some ideas.
Your idea of a brawler is genius. Totally not the same type of game, but I love Dying Light because you are focusing on melee combat. I think in some games, having a firearm nullifies the reason to continue using a melee weapon. The fact that you do more damage when you shoot in combos tells me that they wanted you to continue using the baton even after you pick up the guns.

Game is pure garbage considering they spent 2 trillion dollars and 30 years making it.

Ok visual is this game definitely a overkill but is that enough??
For me is a intense atmosphere much more important than lots of blood😉
But at the end of the day a game must be fun and i thing this one did it 😅

You are absolutely right. Atmosphere and having a good tone is better than just having lots of gore.
This game has flaws, but I think if you like Dead Space, you will probably enjoy this. Its just not a perfect game, but that doesn't it won't have some good moments. If only it was as good as Evil Within 2! J/k 🙃

I'm really puzzled about all the hate this game gets. I'm playing both this and dead space remake and I'm loving both. Suppose it's like death stranding. I personally hated it my brother thinks it's brilliant. Doesn't meen its crap though.
Thank you for saying that! I think sometimes gamers can be too extreme with their opinions. A game can just not be for you and not be crap too.
I am playing game plus mode now on Callisto. I plan and getting the remake soon, but I need to finish 2 other games first. 😁
Dude.. people need to git good.. the melee combat is super fucking easy and fun. Idk how people are so hurt that they suck so much at the combat they need to bash the game.. same shit honestly happened when dark souls came out lol. I also really liked dead space 3, the micro transactions sucked, but it wasn't as bad a s a lot of people were making it out to be. Gamer's are weak
I enjoy the combat in Callisto and I think people are over-thinking the dodge part. I had a weird death or two every now and again, but I was never frustrated and dying over and over.
Yeah, adding micro transactions in Dead Space 3 was lame. However, I just chose not to partake in it and it wasn't a problem. It was a pretty solid game...maybe just not as "scary" as the other entries.
I didn't know anything about this game. Not on my radar but I would give it a go based off your opinion.

I actually prefer to hear this. I want Glen Schofield to make a sequel as well as more horror games. 😌
P.S. at a point in the game, there were flies and such orbiting some of the dead....NO ONE MENTIONS THIS!!!.... where in the hell did they come from.... Earth???.... The title theme song is Awesome as well... very James Bondish if I may....
I also liked the robots in the game. I wish they were incorporated more as an enemy. They sounded cold and creepy whenever they were scanning the area.
There are definitely subtleties in the game that were done well.

Indeed. I am sure the Dead Space remake is EA testing the waters and seeing if they can make a new game.
Callisto feels like Dead Space but it is something else. I hope they do some fine tuning to the inevitable sequel.

Hello... yet another Callisto basher, I have torn into MANY other channel holders for their narrow minded and shallow brush-offs of a developers artwork that holds a place in the top tiers of my gaming system... from what I've seen, only the uncoordinated and dyslexic (unfortunately) gamers seem to be bashing this the most. The damn thing isn't even a year old yet...As I recall, MANY a classic movie or game (including Dead space) has suffered because of a few spoiled Nancy gamers, who are used to bastardizing their own games in order to keep their channels afloat. I think Mr Scofield deserves better from his fans...so far... THIS IS MY ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT on this subject.
