- In today's video I wanted to show praise and love to a game that was from my backlog. Evil Within 2. I have put off playing it for years because I remember there were some things I just didn't care for in the original game. Now I see the area in my ways because this is one of the best games I played this year. You can think of this as a review. You should also think of this as a moment of me explaining and when a game does things right.
I have plenty of unique ideas for videos coming soon! The beginning of 2023 is gonna be interesting for this channel so please stay tuned! I know I have been hitting you guys with a lot of horror lately, so if you don't like that kinda stuff, please be patient!

I loved this game and was surprised that there was many who seemed to dislike it.
It has been almost a year and half since I touched the game. I am tempted to do a 4th playthrough on a harder difficulty. That's how good it is!

The people who disliked it were primarily the people who loved the first game. I am one of the people who loved the first game, but I still enjoy the second. I don’t think it’s quite as good as the first for several reasons. a much more generic watered down story which was spelled out for the player every step of the way. The pacing was not as tight as the first game. Lots of side quests and fetch quests which really only served to pad out the game. Boss fights were lacking compared to the first. But not awful at all, and in my opinion, better than any of the recent RE games.
The Evil Within is one of the best games I've ever played. It was so intense and scary. It kicked my ass but I kept coming back for more.
Naturally I played the second one. Really enjoyed it but for me the first one was better due the more confined environments.
I can agree that opening up the game does alter some of the atmosphere.
I think the Keeper is badass. I love how he breaks his own neck in order to get to you.
Love your review! I played TEW2 3 weeks ago and I still cannot get over how good it is including the music pieces close to the end of the game. Just finished TEW1 and keep wondering how these games are not films yet. What you said about Sebastian not being in the 3rd game because he'd had enough resonates with how I feel. And yes, this game is damn good😀 I'd never played a single video game before and now whatever I am looking at is just not good enough after TEW))))
I completely agree with what you’re saying and if you have never seen it, check out the movie “the Cell“ or it might just be called “Cell“ with Jennifer Lopez it came out in the early 2000s and it is a movie about a detective using a technology to go into the minds of Very depraved and sadistic criminals!!
Either way, when I first played the evil within it kind of made me think about this movie, but if they did make a movie, a fully flushed out movie based on the evil within, it would blow the Cell out the water !!! Cell, you have Jennifer Lopez as the detective or agent, or whatever, going into the minds of these individual people, and in the evil within, it would be like you were in the mind of one person or many with the collective consciousness of all of those people creating some of the scary stuff that happens with it? It would just be so awesome!!
This game is great, you can play certain things the way you want, the storyline is super good and especially if you play for the first time there are a lot of scary situations. I still enjoy playing every time and this is definitely one of my favorite games.

I played this game 5 years later and it blew me away. That says a lot. There are so many things it does right in terms of level design, atmosphere, and sound that make it captivating. The graphics still hold up til this very day! Not to mention its just so fun to play! I can easily see myself returning back to it again this year. 😄

I got this game on Xbox one X when it first came out and I absolutely loved it!!!!
After playing the first one on my PS3, my 360, my PS4 and my Xbox one, I was ready for the sequel when it finally dropped and I have to say it’s a very bad ass game !

Anson Mount the guy who starred in the TV show hell on wheels!! (I always thought his last name was ironic considering the TV show that made his acting career required him “mount” horses quite often!)

I absolutly adore the first game. It became one of my favorite horror games ever, that being said, i know it has SO a many flaws and things that will drive you crazy and frustrated more i still loved it. The sequel fix pretty much everything and it's the prime example on a sequel being better than the original. Sadly sales were abismal and most likely we'll never see another entry 😢
Seeing the hate this game got was understandble. The majority of the issues were fixed in the sequel and I'm thankful to see that. But I do miss the atmosphere of the first game. It felt claustrophobic and it definitely felt scary walking around Ruvik's distorted mind. Maybe that's my only gripe with the 2nd game due to the lack of that. Although some segments do retain that tight and scary levels, the first game did it better. Maybe the story was lacking a bit? I did enjoy the story of the 1st more than the 2nd. That's just me I suppose and that's pretty much my criticism. But the QOL improvements in the 2nd is what made me all in for it.
Both games were great. Personally, I love alot of the encounters with that goo monster. Always made things a bit intense. Wish there were more of them.
I was initally going to use some footage of him. The sounds he makes are just wild! But for some reason I must have quit recording when I came across his segment. 😕 But anyways...what an interesting looking creature! 😬😬😬
@@TheGamingHarbinger oh yeah. Took me by surprise the first time I came across it. Same with that ghost lady. Loved how she could randomly spawn in the map at times. Another underused asset for sure.

glad you mentioned the sparse ammo. I find it bizarre that you find 'pouches' that increase your ammo capacity! I'm like 'why do I need a pouch that can fit 60 bullets when I never have more than 15 bullets?!?! '
I'm still working on it though...on chapter 14 (of apparently 17).

Great video but the obscura is the actually the monster with 3 legs and the camera head, the monster you were talking about is called the anima.

I absolutely love the first TEW and just recently played and beat TEW2 great games, love the stories to both although I hate that ruvik got away instead of dying at the end lol
I agree. Ruvik was an interesting character though. I also liked his design as a character.

I feel like you nailed it with this vid. Evil within 1 was good had some great ideas but also some structural and design issues. I played EW2 on release and loved it because it retains all the good and fixes all the bad, it has a genuinely good story, great cinematography, and it mixes sandbox and liner content better then most other AAA survival horror has managed. I really felt like this was a leap forward on release not just for the series but the genre itself and was saddened to see most people give it a miss and critics only give moderate praise. I started replaying it yesterday and its just as good as I remember! I love RE2 remake but totally agree that this deserves a similar if not higher review score but it is what it is. I'm not holding out hope for a sequel but would love to see one some day. First vid on your channel enjoyed it so subscribed.

When I started playing Evil Within 2, I did not know I was going to like it as much as I did. The game did so many things right. But its also a little disappointing when you realize it didn't get the praise it deserved.

The only bethesda game I will admit is high quality and at this time as I'm commenting, this game is 7 years old. Most Xbox games now can't even hold a candle to this 7 year old last gen as far as quality is concerned.

I redownload the game. It's even better than ALan wake. More bloody and violent.

i’m currently replaying part 1 and gonna play part 2 after. I played about 50-60% of part 2 two years ago but i mostly forgot the story I just remembered that I loved the atmosphere and moving around the town. too bad if they make a part 3 it’ll most likely be Xbox exclusive since i have a ps5 😢
I have actually considered revisiting the 1st game. I may have to do that since it has been so long.
The atmosphere and moving around the town is awesome! Its not a massive open world, but you can do a lot of things in the order you wish.
I really feel for you. I think we will eventually get a 3rd game. This is definitely one of those moments Microsoft should release the game on PS5 as well. Its inspired by Japanese horror and will lose some big sales by not being on a Japanese console. 😕

I am playing through Callisto Protocol right now and I can honestly say I have moments where I think I am hearing the Clair de Lune song. Lol...and then I wanna go back and play it again. Not to say Callisto is a bad game...because it definitely isn't. Evil Within 2 is just so damn good.

Damn shame it didn't sell more and basically killed the franchise, would have loved to see how a 3rd game would have turned out. Such is life.
They were initially planning to make a third game, but instead the development transitioned to Ghostwire Tokyo. I guess it makes sense due to the game being very different from Evil Within. But I wonder are they going back to Evil Within 3 or a new IP? 🤔
I do wish more people would have played both games though. I'm surprised more Resident Evil fans haven't tried it out. I only know one person amongst all my friends who has played both games. 😒
Honestly I wish we would get a third one but unfortunately I don’t see it happening considering sales wise they see it as a failure.
I actually don't know how well the second game sold. This could be a good point. I still wanna believe it will happen. But now that Microsoft owns Bethesda, that means it could end up as an exclusive. I honestly don't think it's beneficial for a new Evil Within to be limited to only PC and Xbox.

I beat both evil within games easy
The boss artists and story writers deserve any praise this game gets and then some more. Gamelay itself is something far far far away from praise. I have never in little gaming life regretted a $6.00 purchase but this game doest merit $6.00. I'd buy the artists showcase hard back for $200 but the game as a fluid, working well executed title is an easy $0.99 cents. I'm still baffled that the same creators that brought us Tokyo Ghostwire were responsible for this game.

Good faith criticism: try and not repeat points in videos... the everything from the first game was mid and the 2nd you really liked is said 4 times in the first 6 minutes and it's only at 6pm you start talking about any of the actually content

You and I are in the same place. I played through and finished the first game. I bought the 2nd game day one. But it was years later that I realized the labor and love that was put into the 2nd game. They threw the kitchen sink at it. If you liked the 1st game, I would be stunned that you didn't like this one. It was done with such care and love.
Thank you! Finally someone is acknowledging the greatness of TEW 2! I really don't get what the fukk is wrong with people, did they get their hive mind replaced or what?! I remember pretty distinctly how when TEW 1 came out everybody was hating on the clunky controls, shitty camera, letterboxes, Sebastian's almost non-existent stamina and personality etc. TEW 2 improved on ALL of those aspects, but for some reason as soon as it came out, everybody shitted all over it and started praising the original all over the place. This hypocrisy annoys the hell out of me. TEW 2 is objectively a FAR BETTER game in every aspect than its predecessor. Why is it so fukking hard for ppl to realise and admit it?!
I remember hearing criticisms about the first game's flaws...but it still got some decent scores. When I was doing research for this video, I was astounded that there was anyone actually saying the first was better. I am so glad I just played it and didn't look up any articles or videos on it until I had finished it. It is such a good game. I think all the people that loved the Resident Evil remasters should play this (if they haven't already).
i think most people wish part 2 had the same art style of part 1. while i do agree part 1 had a better art style and “look”, part 2 still looked great.

The original came out for Xbox 360 . I couldn’t wait for the sequel . I just don’t like how they milked you to get Xbox one just to play the hottest horror game that topped OG RE franchise which was getting played out and losing its hold on the horror fans but was still the best at the time
I will always play an RE game, but I agree with what you are saying. The series was starting lose it's luster a little before the first EW came out.
