When Bird and Magic first started, they dominated right away. Jordan not being "at his best" for a few years is fine, but that didn't apply to Bird. He came in rookie year at took a 29W Celtics Team from the previous year to a 61W winning team his rookie season.

It's not reeally even close is it? This great analysis doesn't fully take into consideration other (obvious) aspects the eras such as rule changes/physicality. If MJ and Lebron were to swap eras, Jordans statstics (and his accolades) would be likely be higher/better while Lebron's would likely be lower/worse thusly creating an even larger gap. If you put aside longevity and accumulated statistics and focus on the other categories it would be a debate to get Lebron into the top 10 let alone the top 5 "Mt Rushmore". It's the longevity and the accumulated stats (which is still impressive) that help him move up in the overall conversation...then again would he have lasted this long and been able to keep up his high level of play had he been physically abused and witthout the advances in medicine and/or training? We will never know although it's highly unlikely.

Larry Bird was doing amazing his first year, so MJ wasn't as good or close to Bird.

Both Larry Bird and Jordan were the greats of their own era. Larry Bird is acknowledged greatly by the players he played against. But not by today's era. It's sad.

He made a really strong case IMO. I had Jordan as my number 1 until revisiting Larry's highlights, accomplishments, etc. I'd also like to see your friends reaction to the larry bird mixtape, that would be epic. lol Though I will say, Magic won a championship in his rookie year, and Bird in his 2nd year. And Bird I don't believe had a stacked Celtics at the time as it would be later.

Yep. The both came into the league and dominated from day 1. They didn't need time to "develop" into the beasts they were.

I don't know if he's better, but what I do know is that Jordan has probably had a little imaginary Larry on his shoulder throughout his entire career whispering into his ear "You never beat me, Mike. You can accomplish anything and everything from here until the end of time, but you never beat me."

Jordan's real competition, Lakers, Celtics and Pistons run came to an end THEN he started winning championships against lesser teams. The NBA had a lull in great teams when Jordan finally made his run. Lebron caught and beat the Warriors in their prime. Keep in mind the Warrior team Lebron beat for the championship has just beat Jordans Bulls single season record. Jordan NEVER beat Bird. A bad back took out Bird that allowed MJ to rise. Jordan's 3 in a row were against good teams not great teams like the Warriors.

Look at the scores of those games when they highlight LeBron’s free throw struggles. That goes into the “clutch” factor.

Also about MJs 3pt shooting. He didn’t focus on it because he didn’t want it to take away from his play style, nor did he want to stand at the 3pt line waiting for a pass. MJs 3pt% seems low because during his first 6-7yrs in the league, he was barely shooting any 3s. If you’re only taking one 3 every few games, and there there is only a 30-sum% chance you’ll make it, odds are you’re going to miss. However, look at the reg season/playoffs/finals when MJ avg 2+ 3s per game. He shot 34.7% on average. When he avg 2.9+ he shot 34.9%. In the finals he shot 37% averaging 3 3s per game. Remove the years the line was moved closer, and it jumps to 42% on 3 3s per game. The more 3s MJ shot, the better his 3pt shooting was

Comparsion: Larry took a losing Celtic team and in 2 years took them to the title. It took Jordan 4 years to get his first title. Larry did not kick the ball he threw it down the court. Reglar season wins Larry 24 Jordan 11 Playoffs wins Larry 6 Jordan 0. Larry is simply a LEGEND!

MJ ONLY WON AFTER BIRD AND MAGIC RETIRED! HE WAS A NON FACTOR ON THE 80'S! Was MJ just drafted? No he wasn't! But even if the answer was yes. BIrd when drafted was rookie fo the year and only by himself he make the Celtics form the 21 to 61 wins, the largest single-season turnarounds in NBA history (a 32-win improvement) BY HIMSELF! and got 4th on MVP. The amount os excuses MJ fans made are very funny! largest single-season turnarounds in NBA history (a 32-win improvement) Anyway, great reaction! Most younglings just ignore the facts and can''t accept that Larry was on the same caliber or even over MJ.

Lebron is a product of the modern NBA. He came in at the right time. From 2000-2004, NBA went under tremendous changes to make the game more offensive friendly, especially for the perimeter players. To allow for more freedom of movement and to make attacking the rim easier. Lebron would be a Shawn Kemp at best if not for the rule changes.

As to the jab step… let’s consider: - you’ve been defending Larry for a hot minute, - you know he can pull back and shoot a fadeaway in your face (hi, XMan) OR… - he can move to his left and shoot lefty over you, OR… - he can move right on you and dump a mid-range on you, OR… - he can move you off one side or the other and deliver a dime. Why do you think they broke their ankles? It’s because he owned them on every variety of shot or pass he wanted to make at any instance. THAT… is what that jab step did. Fun fact: Jordan had a similar move he perfected. I wonder where he learned it from 😊
