    Hi, can you advise on when to start fertilizing a 6 week old, 3" tall seedling? its in a small pot (Jiffy Seed Starting Mix Includes: peat moss, vermiculite and lime) in a south facing window in NJ so too cold to go outside. i'm thinking about adding some diluted fish fertilizer but don't want to do that too soon. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

    • @ShawnBauer
      @ShawnBauer Місяць тому

      Wait for solid roots to grow before any type of fertilizer. After that keep basic until in the ground.

      @@ShawnBauer Thanks. I started a diluted fish fertilzer. The plant is about 6" tall with lots of leaves. Its in a south facing, but cold window (probably 50 degrees at night, growing zone 7a). Do you have advice on keeping the plant alive through the winter?

    You really shouldn't use the white plastic dryer vent! If you have a really heavy load the temps can be hotter than you mentioned. Use aluminum semi-rigid duct.

    Possible, yes, advisable, no. There is a reason to follow garlic experts advise if you want great garlic where the bulbs are as big as your hand. Buy and propagate the right seed garlic for your area and plant in fall. I don’t know about you but starting in spring and into summer my refrigerator is full of all the things I’m growing in my garden. However I am a firm believer in your garden your rules, so carry on how you want.

    Shawn, you are very creative with your garlic growing but also with creating a small raised bed to border your garden. Raised beds do not have to be big to be effective. Excited to try this process as I missed getting garlic into the ground last fall. I actually had a few cloves come up from after my harvesting. Will do this process to fill in with new cloves.
