These look like so much fun. We have used a commercial one and they are really fun. We are about to build one of these and I am glad to hear you went this tall and wide. I have a 6' tall teenager so I would like to go 9' tall too. May I ask, how deep is your pool where your climbing wall is?
@@dinyanorris7311 My pool is 12' at the deepest point but it's also narrower at the end. I set it up at a point around 9' deep. My wife has a strict no diving head first rule. Sometimes the kids follow it and sometimes they don't.
@@jcgasca Thank you. That is really helpful to know. We are only going to have 8' deep so I wonder with the taller kids and adults, do you think 8' is deep enough for 6' tall kids/adults to have room to fall back into the water.....with a no head first rule (which like you say, sometimes they follow and sometimes they won't) ?
Good luck Chad! I'd love to see how it turns out! We just opened our pool and the kids went right to for the second season. It never gets old and guests love it!
The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how two people gave this a thumbs down "dislike." This wall is cool! I've been searching for various designs for rock climbing walls. I'm going to attach one to the side of a treehouse. This design is great (although it will angle out instead of in). Great job!
This is a great idea!! Really appreciate you providing us details of this project. If you were to do this all over again, would you still go with 2x4's for the face of the wall versus 3/4 plywood? And would you keep the wall width at 4ft? I'm thinking this project will take place this weekend!
Danny Lam thanks for your comment Danny. Plywood would never last in outside weather. Another reason, the small space between each board allows some wind to pass through. Cedar was the best choice and makes it all look nice. I know it cost more but, worth it in my option. Pressure treated wood will also work but, the chemical aspect and look turned me away.
@@ShawnBauer could you please let me know what size planks did you use on the front planks. They don't look like 2x4. I am building mine this week. Thank you for the video and idea!
Have you experienced any issues with this over the years? My first though is that those pool cover tie downs wouldnt be strong enough. I have had several of them become loose at my last house.
They are fine Marvin. There is enough texture on the holds to use while wet. They have also lasted through the weather elements as the original holds are still on the wall today! Thanks for watching!
It took the pool cover bolts to my local lowes and matched them the best I could. They were not perfect but enough to hold… till going strong for all these year. Thanks for watching
ya, these projects can deffinatley get expensive. And honestly, I'm not sure what else you could do there, unless you want to add a zip line into the pool, lol. that would be awesome, but probably dangerous
Thanks, Shawn. What a great idea. I'm planning to buy the materials tomorrow :) Just a question on anchoring it to the pool. I have cover anchors too, but they can't be easily removed. Do you take only the male part off? or including its housing too (the female part)? I'd appreciate if you can elaborate more on the anchoring part. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. I was thinking of just using a few concrete screws. Any thoughts? Thanks again. appreciate this video.
@@ShawnBauer We dont really screw or unscrew them, as it never really bothered us. Now that you mention it, it's probably best to screw them in (for safety) when the pool is open. Thanks, you've answered my question. Very excited to do this project!
I'm about ready to tackle this project and add this to our pool, how did you secure each plank on the front? Are those three nails or screws on each side?
Great idea! Just curious how deep is your pool? I see the diving board so assuming at least 8 feet deep. Our pool only goes to 6 feet deep so feel like we would need to go smaller to be on the safe side......thoughts?
Hi Becky. Our pool is 10-11 feet at it's deepest (depending on water level). Where the rock wall is installed, it's about 7-8 feet. You can always do what we did and start small and build up. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Kam, an hour of pre-planing, hour of buying the material and about 4 hours of construction I'd say (could take longer if you are new to woodworking). Cost can vary based on wood you use. Using Cedar, cost came in under $300 (wood, hardware and rock holds - which were costly). Thanks for watching!
It's funny you ask Alysa, I was just pondering options last weekend. The problem really is cost. Trying to find a cargo net antiquate for this application is very expensive. Still working on it but, it may not be this year. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks for watching
Damn that thing is sick as hell. That's not just for kids u should use that too, climbing is amazing exercise
Found my next project 😊😊
Just finished mine! thanks for the inspiration. I ended up going 71 inches wide and 9 feet above pool. AMA

@@dinyanorris7311 Should probably be fine if just falling into pool,
It's about 7 feet deep in this area. overall pool has an 11 foot deep end.
Nice job. When I first started watching the video I was wondering how you had anchored it. Using the safety cover anchor holes is a stroke of genius.
Thanks!
Great job dad. I’m going to do this next month. My kids will love it! Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for posting. Going to try and tackle this for our above ground pool. Just not so high.
Good luck Chad! I'd love to see how it turns out! We just opened our pool and the kids went right to for the second season. It never gets old and guests love it!
I’m going with 10’ 4x4s.....bigger..... haahha
That thing rocks!
That is awesome. Damn my kids are so jealous
this looks like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing! I think our family might attempt this, I have a 6 year old who would just love this!
They will... Trust me!!!

Erudite Conversations can't please everyone I guess. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Good luck with your build!
Great job! I will be building one of these this spring
Go for it!

Danny Lam I apologize, it is 5 feet wide. I’d avoid any wider than that. This form factor seems perfect. In fact, we are going higher next year.
Going higher? On same wall or new one?
Juan Carlos G went higher same wall . Look for the follow up video. Thanks for watching

It’s still up today and works good as new. I just do a bolt check before each season and tighten things up.
VERY cool!!! Just curious though, how are the holds after having been in the water? I’ve never grabbed on to those things with anything but chalk

Jovian Lubis they won’t just unscrew out? Like when you raise them for winter use just keep unscrewing out?

Donn Manalili 3 rust proof screws per side. So, 3 on left and 3 on right per plank.

you said in the video that you did a 10 percent angle for the wall in the side of the 4x4. do you mean 10 degree, or do you really mean 10 percent?
Degree
How long did it take to make? How much did it cost?

Rock holds cost the most money out of the total budget*
did you add that extension that you talked about?

Could u give a materials list?
Would you be willing to share the brand of the holds you purchased?
I got them on Ebay many years ago
The coping hasn’t cracked?
Nope
