I can't describe how glad I am to live in this century. Ate a peach, asked myself if I could grow a tree from the seed, googled it and this popped up. You explained it perfectly and now I'm following the steps. A total stranger from another continent was able to teach me this within 6 minutes. I didn't even have to leave my house. God, sorry if this is weird but it just hit me all at once.
Totally agree with you on how utterly amazing* this technology is! I’m old(ish) and when I was a child this would’ve been the science fiction of Star Trek or Doctor Who!!! *it has a terrifying dark side too so maybe more Star Wars 🤔 (but let’s not go there here!)
I know, right? Sane thing just happened to me. I was eating this wonderful batch of preaches that I bought and I thought that I should try growing my own tree or two out of this excellent variety and one Google searcg away here I am learning how to do it before getting up from the couch.
I live in North East Michigan. We would can peaches every year while growing up in the 1960's and 70's. Dad would throw the peach skins and pits into the compost pile. Every spring it was my job to dig out the sprouted peach trees and plant them in a special area, known as Peach Tree Row. We always had fresh peaches from August and September, canned peaches the remaining months of the year.
You can also crack open the peach pit, take the actual seed out, peel off the brown covering on the seed after soaking it in water overnight and then planting in potting mix. I personally don't use soil from outside to prevent the possibility of mold and mildew forming on the seeds. It eliminates the cold-moist stratification process and is MUCH faster! ;-)

I've been doing this for 30 years. Peaches grow pretty much true to type. I lightly clean the pits with a soft brush and store them on top of the fridge till fall, and plant them in a marked row in Nov.or Dec. I have given away many. Mine Are Red haven and Free stone. Squirrels steal many. We are going to have a good year. 4-5 years for first fruit

What sort of fertilizer regime do you use? I live in a particularly difficult area to grow some things. Peach trees usually get thick curly leaves early on and half the tree will die. No flowers usually on trees that were flowering when purchased. They put out new leaves and partially recover during the summer. Blueberries have trouble with stems just dying and random plants just drop dead. Raspberries are even worse as now our large patch is almost completely gone. They grew great in the beginning and then just died off. Bamboo and blackberries grow great. Rhubarb grows great. Potatoes and garlic grow great as do most vegetables. Apple trees do pretty good as well. Cherries do ok with some problems with early flowers just falling off but still get some usually. Of course wild cherries do just fine. Can't figure out why berries and peach trees have such a hard time

I have started them after I cracked the seed out of the hard pit and then I wrap it in a damp paper towel folded around it. Keep it moist but not emerged in water. Keep it in direct light. not sunlight and then when it sprouts, I pot it on until it is big enough for the out of doors. Freestones do better with this method than Cling peaches.
I started my seeds using your method. It is now September, my seedlings are in large pots and are about 2 feet tall. Would it be better to keep them in the house over winter and plant in Spring? We live in Virginia.
I guess I got lucky…I buried a whole peach and forgot about it. The following spring it sprouted. I didn’t know what it was at first until my neighbor got excited and told me what it was.
Growing up I threw some seeds from my grandfather's tree next to the side of my house. Wonderful, and juicy, peaches. I had rabbits back then and in a year there be peach trees. Rabbit poop is a miracle grower.
My grandma would take us to pick peaches in New Jersey summers. Everytime I eat a peach of think of her. I would love to keep her memory alive by 0lanting peach trees in California. There are a lot of fruit trees in my area. Everytime I toss a pit I think I should be growing them.

It's so worth it my parents did that back a couple of years ago in Colorado they're smaller than the ones in the store but we get peaches like crazy they never stop popping out and they're incredibly sweeter. We have about 30 in our living room right now and the tree is still full of them

i shoved a pit in some soil in the dead of winter after finding it in my refrigerator and remembering i saved it because it so dang good. After spring, summer, and then late in fall something was coming up and i knew it was something i planted but forgot..by next spring i remembered it had to be that peach pit! It was, and now this tree is huge..but no flowering or fruit …it lives in a path of a lobster swamp tub drain down the hill..full sun..i’ve planted many things there..best thing so far is the Chaya tree, the Spinach Tree! Good video Shawn, i loved it because it reminds that all good things take time.. Peaches will come…it’s just a matter of time…i’m going to try your method as well.

the best way I found growing fruits from seeds is every time I eat fruits I throw the seeds in the garden and I always get seedlings growing which I transplant them to pots

Crack the nut and take out the kernel. Put the kernels in the refrigerator for three months, and there will be sprouts. Plant in small pots until the plant is about a foot, then plant out.

On own rootstock is the true advantage... Reason insects do not attack as bad,more hardy tree .. Grafted trees are miserable to care for a d always fighting to keep healthy.. Buy a few grafted trees to get fruit while awaiting the years to get fruit from your one from seed..
This video is so informative. I do have questions however to help me get started. I have watched other videos where people were prying open the pit to get to the actual seed and then germinating, do you find there to be any different outcome? Is it possible to save the pit until you're ready to plant? How long can you just have a peach pit laying around without cold stratification?

Walker Lewis, a black man who had been ordained to the priesthood, saying, “We have one of the best Elders, an African.” Anciently, only certain tribes of Israel could hold the Priesthood [Levi]. Over 80% probability that the fruit will be inferior. That's why our fruit trees are clones--because we've chosen the best fruiting trees. Allowing them to get fertilized with whatever random other trees and allowing whatever random genes to express themselves almost always guarantees a lower quality result. This attempt to save a few bucks is borne in ignorance of plant genetics. Investing so much into a plant that will yeild inferior results is demoralizing. Anyone teaching this is doing a serious disservice to adults, and a grave disservice to children.

i will try somthing new this fall when i prune instead of trashing all those limbs i cut off i will bury the cut ends in a big pile of good soil to see what happens if any thing sprouts i believe some will sprout they will be exact copy of mother tree will wet them if no rain
If you use some rooting powder on the cut surface straight after you make the cut you’ll get a higher success rate. I’m going to try “air rooting” before I prune one of my apple trees this year. 🤞🤞

Nice work! I have a question about pruning. I've sprouted 10 pits and they are approx 6" tall now. How tall should they be before top pruning to encourage lateral branching? Really encouraged by your video and patience! 💚👍🌱
Great question! My peach trees (from this video) are now in it's second year of growth in the ground and I plan on only pruning all the branches about 24 inches up the trunk. I will start the Lateral pruning process this late fall. I'm not doing the bowl tree method like some orchids do. I don't think they will be big enough for the ground just yet, but when I do get them in the ground, does it need to be in the spring and summer time to do that? How often do you water them when in the ground? Thanks!
@@carolinefoster1489 well first of all.. congrats on the sprouts!!! They can be planted any time but, early fall is best for most trees (depending on where you live). Water heavy on planting but, Don’t over water! Let nature take it course unless you are having a drought spell.
That was really informative. I followed your route starting myself in October 2020 and now my tree is around 5 feet tall and has grown very spindly stems from the main stem and these are up to 2 feet long. Have you pruned at all yet ? Cheers Phil

As a wholesale nursery owner of 24 years, I am frustrated to see UA-camrs promote growing fruit trees from seed. The seed is a cross between two different trees and will not result in producing the same fruite that you have eaten. It is more cost and time effective to purchase your fruit trees from a nursery where you know that you are planting a known variety that will grow in your geographic and climatic location. You can ignore my advice but take the time to investigate what professional breeders have dome to provide you with trees that will provide years of enjoyment.
@@williamjackson5942 That is indeed accurate. It will likely be a full-sized tree coming from a commercial orchard and will likely need to be grafted...maybe. A neighbor of mine grew apricots from seed and they produced beautiful, large 'cots.

I can't describe how glad I am to live in this century. Ate a peach, asked myself if I could grow a tree from the seed, googled it and this popped up. You explained it perfectly and now I'm following the steps. A total stranger from another continent was able to teach me this within 6 minutes. I didn't even have to leave my house. God, sorry if this is weird but it just hit me all at once.

I know, right? Sane thing just happened to me. I was eating this wonderful batch of preaches that I bought and I thought that I should try growing my own tree or two out of this excellent variety and one Google searcg away here I am learning how to do it before getting up from the couch.
How did it come out?
I live in North East Michigan. We would can peaches every year while growing up in the 1960's and 70's. Dad would throw the peach skins and pits into the compost pile. Every spring it was my job to dig out the sprouted peach trees and plant them in a special area, known as Peach Tree Row. We always had fresh peaches from August and September, canned peaches the remaining months of the year.

You can also crack open the peach pit, take the actual seed out, peel off the brown covering on the seed after soaking it in water overnight and then planting in potting mix. I personally don't use soil from outside to prevent the possibility of mold and mildew forming on the seeds. It eliminates the cold-moist stratification process and is MUCH faster! ;-)

I've been doing this for 30 years. Peaches grow pretty much true to type. I lightly clean the pits with a soft brush and store them on top of the fridge till fall, and plant them in a marked row in Nov.or Dec. I have given away many. Mine Are Red haven and Free stone. Squirrels steal many. We are going to have a good year. 4-5 years for first fruit
Can I speed fruiting up by taking a scion from this young tree and graft it onto an older rootstock?

I know this probably isn't the most ideal place to talk about religion but I really do want you to know that God loves you. You may not love Him or care about Him at all, but He still will continue to love you. You are a beloved son or daughter of God. He knows you personally and He truly and deeply desires for your happiness. I testify to you that you and I are not a mistake. He knows the very moment when we stand and when we sit. He is familiar with all our ways and knows us personally who we are. Paul said that The Lord will not give you temptations that you cannot resist, but that in your temptations, He will provide a way for you to resist, overcome and conquer them. He will provide a way. What sort of fertilizer regime do you use?
I live in a particularly difficult area to grow some things. Peach trees usually get thick curly leaves early on and half the tree will die. No flowers usually on trees that were flowering when purchased. They put out new leaves and partially recover during the summer. Blueberries have trouble with stems just dying and random plants just drop dead. Raspberries are even worse as now our large patch is almost completely gone. They grew great in the beginning and then just died off. Bamboo and blackberries grow great. Rhubarb grows great. Potatoes and garlic grow great as do most vegetables. Apple trees do pretty good as well. Cherries do ok with some problems with early flowers just falling off but still get some usually. Of course wild cherries do just fine. Can't figure out why berries and peach trees have such a hard time

I have started them after I cracked the seed out of the hard pit and then I wrap it in a damp paper towel folded around it. Keep it moist but not emerged in water. Keep it in direct light. not sunlight and then when it sprouts, I pot it on until it is big enough for the out of doors. Freestones do better with this method than Cling peaches.
I started my seeds using your method. It is now September, my seedlings are in large pots and are about 2 feet tall. Would it be better to keep them in the house over winter and plant in Spring? We live in Virginia.
I guess I got lucky…I buried a whole peach and forgot about it. The following spring it sprouted. I didn’t know what it was at first until my neighbor got excited and told me what it was.
Growing up I threw some seeds from my grandfather's tree next to the side of my house. Wonderful, and juicy, peaches. I had rabbits back then and in a year there be peach trees. Rabbit poop is a miracle grower.

I remember many years ago my grandfather in North Carolina eating a peach one summer as he was walking around his yard and when he finished it he just leaned over and buried the seed in the ground and a few years later he had a nice sized peach tree from that very seed.

It's so worth it my parents did that back a couple of years ago in Colorado they're smaller than the ones in the store but we get peaches like crazy they never stop popping out and they're incredibly sweeter. We have about 30 in our living room right now and the tree is still full of them

I know this probably isn't the most ideal place to talk about religion but I really do want you to know that God loves you. You may not love Him or care about Him at all, but He still will continue to love you. You are a beloved son or daughter of God. He knows you personally and He truly and deeply desires for your happiness. Yeah sure. Mine one is 10 ft long, 20 years old and it had 2 floors this year and one peach only,

i shoved a pit in some soil in the dead of winter after finding it in my refrigerator and remembering i saved it because it so dang good. After spring, summer, and then late in fall
something was coming up and i knew it was something i planted but forgot..by next spring i remembered it had to be that peach pit! It was, and now this tree is huge..but no flowering or fruit …it lives in a path of a lobster swamp tub drain down the hill..full sun..i’ve planted many things there..best thing so far is the Chaya tree, the Spinach Tree!

I just opened up a peach to make a smoothie and the seed just broke open with the inside starting to sprout! Found this video and I'm inspired to have my own peach tree!

the best way I found growing fruits from seeds is every time I eat fruits I throw the seeds in the garden and I always get seedlings growing which I transplant them to pots
My peach is 5 yrs old and it's loaded this year. Technically it's probably 6 maybe even 7 yrs old. I tried this technique it didn't work but I'm not giving up yet!! Thank you and I'm in PA too...kudos!

Crack the nut and take out the kernel. Put the kernels in the refrigerator for three months, and there will be sprouts. Plant in small pots until the plant is about a foot, then plant out.

Like your video. Cost about $25 to buy a tree like you have in the fall 2020. I have some 2 yrs old. Spring 21 you should do a little trimming. Remove bottom sucker limbs and the center to start all growth in the right direction. Plenty of good videos on here showing how. Thanks for your info. I'm gonna try to start my own

Grafted trees are miserable to care for a d always fighting to keep healthy..
Buy a few grafted trees to get fruit while awaiting the years to get fruit from your one from seed..

I have watched other videos where people were prying open the pit to get to the actual seed and then germinating, do you find there to be any different outcome? Is it possible to save the pit until you're ready to plant? How long can you just have a peach pit laying around without cold stratification?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been misinterpreted as a cult, due to a lack of understanding. I will be answering questions on Plural marriage and another topic.
In the early years of the Church, African slaves were permitted and allowed to be Baptized to come unto the fold of God, while America was segregated. Some examples include: Green Flake, Samuel D. Chambers, Gobo Fango and Bridget "Biddy" Mason. All of them were slaves. Toward the end of his life, Church founder Joseph Smith openly opposed slavery. In a private Church council three years after Joseph Smith’s death, Brigham Young praised Q. Walker Lewis, a black man who had been ordained to the priesthood, saying, “We have one of the best Elders, an African.” Anciently, only certain tribes of Israel could hold the Priesthood [Levi]. In 1852, President Brigham Young publicly announced that men of black African descent could no longer be ordained to the priesthood, though thereafter blacks continued to join the Church through baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. At the same time, President Young said that at some future day, black Church members would “have all the privilege and more” enjoyed by other members. There have been many theories and speculations on why this happened, but none of these explanations are accepted today as official doctrine of The Church.
Perhaps The Lord was always willing to give the Priesthood to those of African descent but maybe members of The Church were not ready to accept that. During the 20th Century, President Spencer W. Kimball would go to the Temple and pray earnestly and seek The Lord's will if the people of African descent should hold the Priesthood. He would do this many times during the week. In June 1978, after “spending many hours in the Upper Room of the [Salt Lake] Temple supplicating the Lord for divine guidance,” Church President Spencer W. Kimball, his counselors in the First Presidency, and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles received a revelation. “He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come,” the First Presidency announced on June 8. The First Presidency stated that they were “aware of the promises made by the prophets and presidents of the Church who have preceded us” that “all of our brethren who are worthy may receive the priesthood.” The revelation rescinded the restriction on priesthood ordination. It also extended the blessings of the temple to all worthy Latter-day Saints, men and women. The First Presidency statement regarding the revelation was canonized in the Doctrine and Covenants as Official Declaration 2.
Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Church leaders today condemn all racism, past and present, in any form. It affirms that God is, "no respecter of persons" and declares that anyone who is righteous regardless of race is favored of Him. Nephi said, “The Lord denieth none that cometh unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; … all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.”
The Bible teaches that marriage of one man to one woman is God's standard, except at specific periods when He has declared otherwise. In a revelation to Joseph Smith, the practice of plural marriage-the marriage of one man to two or more women-was instituted among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the early 1840s. For more than half a century, plural marriage was practiced by some Latter-day Saints. Only the Church President held the keys authorizing the performance of new plural marriages. In 1890, the Lord inspired Church President Wilford Woodruff to issue a statement that led to the end of the practice of plural marriage in the Church. In this statement, known as the Manifesto, President Woodruff declared his intention to abide by U.S. law forbidding plural marriage and to use his influence to convince members of the Church to do likewise. Due to the constant persecutions, many wives were widows. Plural marriage allowed widows to be provided food, water and shelter. This practise was instituted anciently in The Bible like Abraham and Jacob. Both had more than one wife. For these early Latter-day Saints, plural marriage was a religious principle that required personal sacrifice. They believed it was a commandment of God at that time and that obedience would bring great blessings to them and their posterity, both on earth and in the life to come. Plural marriage was generally based on religious belief. Plural marriage was a commandment for that people, for that time, for that circumstance and situation.
My friend, if you do not agree with me, that's fine. I hope we can find some common ground, but I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true Church on this earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God and I cannot deny that. Yes, some things in life we just don't understand fully yet, but if we will hold on, it will pay off in the end.

And once removed from the cold storage, how often do you water? Also, do you use any special plant food for fruits and veggies when your planting peaches?
You want to keep the soil moist but not soaked or it could rot the seed. Any even fertilizer will do… like a 7-7-7

Over 80% probability that the fruit will be inferior. That's why our fruit trees are clones--because we've chosen the best fruiting trees. Allowing them to get fertilized with whatever random other trees and allowing whatever random genes to express themselves almost always guarantees a lower quality result. This attempt to save a few bucks is borne in ignorance of plant genetics. Investing so much into a plant that will yeild inferior results is demoralizing. Anyone teaching this is doing a serious disservice to adults, and a grave disservice to children.

i will try somthing new this fall when i prune instead of trashing all those limbs i cut off i will bury the cut ends in a big pile of good soil to see what happens if any thing sprouts i believe some will sprout they will be exact copy of mother tree will wet them if no rain

If you use some rooting powder on the cut surface straight after you make the cut you’ll get a higher success rate. I’m going to try “air rooting” before I prune one of my apple trees this year. 🤞🤞

That’s horrible! Growing plants is a really important part of of being a healthy human (imo). Are there any community gardens or allotments near you? Or some people round here (London, UK) have been “guérilla” planting! Sewing seeds and planting seedlings in unloved/unused patches of ground.

Nice work! I have a question about pruning. I've sprouted 10 pits and they are approx 6" tall now. How tall should they be before top pruning to encourage lateral branching? Really encouraged by your video and patience! 💚👍🌱
Great question! My peach trees (from this video) are now in it's second year of growth in the ground and I plan on only pruning all the branches about 24 inches up the trunk. I will start the Lateral pruning process this late fall. I'm not doing the bowl tree method like some orchids do. I don't think they will be big enough for the ground just yet, but when I do get them in the ground, does it need to be in the spring and summer time to do that? How often do you water them when in the ground? Thanks!
@@carolinefoster1489 well first of all.. congrats on the sprouts!!! They can be planted any time but, early fall is best for most trees (depending on where you live). Water heavy on planting but, Don’t over water! Let nature take it course unless you are having a drought spell.

That was really informative. I followed your route starting myself in October 2020 and now my tree is around 5 feet tall and has grown very spindly stems from the main stem and these are up to 2 feet long. Have you pruned at all yet ? Cheers Phil
That’s great!!! Yes I’ve pruned to form main branches evenly as possible from about 4 feet up and about a foot apart going up. My trees are about 12 feet high at this point.

As a wholesale nursery owner of 24 years, I am frustrated to see UA-camrs
promote growing fruit trees from seed. The seed is a cross between two
different trees and will not result in producing the same fruite that you have
eaten.
It is more cost and time effective to purchase your fruit trees from a nursery
where you know that you are planting a known variety that will grow in your
geographic and climatic location.
You can ignore my advice but take the time to investigate what professional
breeders have dome to provide you with trees that will provide years of
enjoyment.
Nah! Growing them from seed is way better.!!
It’s more fun to grow from seed and I like the suspense of not knowing exactly what you’re going to get!

What he is growing is seed stock on which a known variety is grafted.
Nope this is the seed of the plant grafted onto the rootstock. The rootstock controls how big the tree becomes.

@@williamjackson5942 That is indeed accurate. It will likely be a full-sized tree coming from a commercial orchard and will likely need to be grafted...maybe. A neighbor of mine grew apricots from seed and they produced beautiful, large 'cots.

I planted garlic with no stratification in midwinter in new Zealand, and they sprouted within a week.
Any garlic will sprout but, without stratification, it may not form any bulb making more garlic. If it does, it will be small. Thanks for watching
