A practical combination? I was wrong!
In my last video, the combination between the RTX A2000 and the i5-8500T inside a tiny PC didn’t result in good performance. I got some responses/suggestions from community to try a tool named ThottleStop. So in this video, let’s continue the story about the interesting tiny pc and see if performance increases.
Check out my previous video first to understand the situation.

    This is awesome, I am thinking of getting an M720Q and using an RX 6400, get the lid of a P330 as it has the same mounting points and has the ventilation for both the CPU and GPU too. Would make for a living room sized Steam Machine.

    When I was searching information about my own SFF PC it appears that there were multiple configurations, eg faster more powerful CPUs. This also affected the PSU supplied so it mught be worth checking what PSU you have and if there was a more powerful version available :)

    • @thinhdora
      @thinhdora 2 дні тому

      Thanks for your information. The PSU is 300W so it must be ok. I think the limitation belongs to the motherboard which support at most 35W CPU and 50W GPU.

    The bd prochot is used to protect parts such as chipsets and VRMs. If the VRMs heat up too much, a signal is sent to the processor asking it to consume less power. Deactivating it increases the stress on motherboard parts and reduces their lifespan. The 102 degrees is probably your VRM. You can buy small aluminum heatsinks and try to find the vrm but don't expect much. There are two causes, either not enough VRMs, so they are used too much, or poor cooling of the VRMs, or both.

    • @thinhdora
      @thinhdora 2 дні тому

      Thanks for your opinion. Yes. I have the same thought in the conclusion. It definitely isn't good for long term run when bypassing any heat protection. A model with more generous VRM an cooling must be better choice. Btw, the VRM temp is 90*C at 14:47, which is not too bad in this form factor I think. The 102*C belongs to an unnamed sensor.

    • @thinhdora
      @thinhdora 4 дні тому

      Mine has a bit rattling sound too if the big front fan run at high speed. I guess the reason is the unbalance of the fan blades. I can feel the slight vibration. But most of the time that fan run at low rpm so it's not a big issue. If it annoys you, you can replace it with better one like Noctua (of course it needs an adapter to remap the wires as I did).

    The same CPU was used in Mac Mini 2018 and it’s not bad even now because there it supports up to 4xThunderbolt 3 ports. Also I had Lenovo laptop with i7-8665U and eGPU Aorus RTX2070 and I faced same problems with stuttering and low frequencies while gaming. Throttlestop really helps me back then. Unfortunately Intel prohibited using almost all Throttlestop controls in their 12 gen moblie CPUs and newer generations

    • @thinhdora
      @thinhdora 5 днів тому

      Thanks for your information. Yes it's the same CPU generation with the Mac Mini 2018, but I remember the Mac Mini uses another variant, and as powerfull as desktop version. The one I use in the video is the T variant, the performance is somewhere between desktop CPU and laptop CPU. Btw, thank you for the info about ThrottleStop and 12th gen mobile CPU. It's must be useful for me in the future tests.

    I just tried, and it works just fine, a 130 bucks OptiPlex 5070 with a 110 bucks RTX A2000 (and a 5 bucks adapter for video output). Don't forget to set up the bios to boot on NVIDIA card only, and then to install the drivers (I had a flickering issue before installing the drivers properly, maybe a conflict with the og intel gpu). So no need of a new PSU, 200W is OK for this card (associated with an I5 9500 with a 65W TDP).

  • @Ash-bx6kq
    @Ash-bx6kq 10 днів тому

    Yeah, apparently the motherboard is the week point when it comes to power delivery to the gpu. You have enough space to potentially put in a rtx 4060 low profile that takes 6 pin power, and maybe enough space to add one of those power supplies that use a charger with a brick (pixo atx) inside the case and use that to power the gpu. Maybe you can even figure out a way to power the motherboard off that too

    • @thinhdora
