What Did My Dad REALLY Think Of MALAYSIA? 🇲🇾 (honest opinion!)
I moved to Malaysia almost three years ago, and last year, my 60-year-old Aussie dad visited me for the first time. In this video, I sat down and asked him everything about his experience-from his first impressions of Malaysia, the best luxury experiences, safety, culture shocks, healthcare, Langkawi, and his favourite authentic places in Malaysia.
After Malaysia, we visited Singapore for a few days. He shares how it compares and which country he prefers, including the age-old question-who has better food? Would he retire in Malaysia? Whether you're a retiree, expat, digital nomad, or traveller interested in Malaysia, my dad's unbiased opinion will surely help you live in or visit Malaysia.
What did he really think? Watch to find out, and comment below if you have any more questions for him. If there are enough, we'll be sure to film part 2!
1:10 - What did you think of Malaysia BEFORE you visited?

Try to get real Malaysian salary instead of yr expat salary then you will feel the pinch
Good video to end the year 2024! PS: Your dad is a funny guy mate! PSS: The Thai island nearby Langkawi is Koh Lipe.
Go to Semporna ❤👑❤🤲❤👑❤
After this you can try Nasi Kerabu
Once you travel outside Selangor and KL, you will discover lots of villages and forest in other states. The difference in lifestyle, the living pace and modernity level is significant. KL and Selangor when combined contribute almost 40% of Malaysia's GDP.
Jack good job introduce Malaysia thanks for interview with your dad 😊
Cool dad
we find australia very out of date...not improving forward
Dad's Cool Dude!!
Living in Malaysia as a tourist is different from living there as a expats or local. It will be interesting to interview the locals or a typical expat instead. Tourists mostly have it good in Malaysia.
500 years gone ismael elites from yaman..now 1957 rise rise
maybe can make fish head curry with local australian fish? barramundi?
Another great video educating anyone interested in KL or Malaysia. I’ve been following your channel for awhile and have just returned from a month recon of KL. Planning on relocating in Q2 2025 from Sydney and found your videos to be very helpful. I agree with the Singapore/KL debate as it was also a consideration for business but have decided on KL. I’m staying tuned for more videos as I get closer to the relocation date. Much appreciated. Dino
Thank you for the honest opinion Dad. Enjoy your staf and come back again.
Borneo is better than West Malaysia!

Malaysia: illegal to be gay but men can marry children.
As a Malaysian def love its improvement & developing. Sg is well known for its safety. Pros is all countries are getting better, but cons is the Citizens need to catch up of its face-paced living & earning ... They are many people still struggling in Malaysia cuz of the recent years of prices increased & inflation ..... 🥲 Thailand is def a country must go once in a lifetime... Eyes opening for its chaotic , shop till you drop ... eat till you trancend 🤣 so much going in on there, good / bad see it before you die !!! Anyhoooo... nice insights of son & dad ....
What a luxury to retire at 60. There's still time to fall in love.
Thanks you for being honest for our country i hope both of u guys enjoy in our country be happy n smile always. 😊😊❤❤❤
Spent a lot of time there. The traffic and horrible public transport stops you from going places. I found it ultimately less friendly and more characterless than thailand and other countries
It's encouraging to hear your father's candid thoughts about Malaysia in your interview. Depending on how you see things, any country must have things that you enjoy and dislike. However, you'll see more bad things and complain more about it if your eyes are more likely to pick up on the negative aspects of it. On the other hand, if you can see things with a positive mindset, you'll find more interesting and positive things about the place and be able to appreciate it more. As a Malaysian, I know that Malaysia is not perfect, so, I often moan about a lot of things, but I constantly tell myself that the grass is always greener on the other side. I know that I can't change them, but I can alter myself to be more optimistic about it, so I try to accept things as they are and quit whining.
Australians are the same Kampong people you meet in malaysia, just that they have white skin.
When I was working in KL, I joined in a group of local hikers that went around KL hiking spots every weekends. There's also several expats that joined the adventure every week. The best thing is they always scouts and St John Ambulance member in the group for emergency. They also provide car pool service where you can just show up at designated LRT station and then paid the ride by the mileage. My best experience was a hike to Sungai Pisang Waterfall in Gombak, Chilling Waterfall in Hulu Selangor, Mount Datuk hike in Seremban, and also white water rafting in Sungai Gopeng, Perak. Perhaps you could look up for those groups. And I think the rage now is camping where the canping groups will arrange for a camping trip, but you have to have your own camping tents and gears. There's a lot of modern campsite these days in Malaysia that provides electricity and bathroom as well, that's why it gains quite popularity amongst the locals.
Welcome to Malaysia Jack's dad. I hope u enjoy yr time in this country.
I am Singaporean, I plan to retire in the next 4-5 years and will likely spend a lot of time in KL, Penang & maybe drive around the East Coast, especially around the beaches. Malaysia is a wonderful country, blessed with natural beauty and kind people, with a culture similar with Singapore - yet it is different enough to be interesting. The SGD:MYR exchange rate is also favourable to us so Malaysia can expect a huge bunch of Singaporeans swarming all over the country, especially when the 2 governments sort out the inconveniences of crossing the land borders!
Yeah no. I still prefer racial equality and homosexuality not being illegal.
most singapore parent are from malaysia, some look down on them forgetting their root, lot retire in malaysia.Singapore without new tech is over
@马国通靈人 bro, dont claim like that, remember the history between singapura and tanah melayu?
I know many Aussie don't know much bout Malaysia till they visit . last time back in 2000 I stayed with Oz family and they thought most of the people live on top of the tree and one day they follow me back to KL and I show them the twin towers and they looks like kids going to Disneyland
Our trees are called high rise apartments here 😂 tbh New Zealand looks like our remote country side 😭
i am been at australia 15 yeasr . your dad imposible to retired at australia because he is the main income of australia goverment , medicare , house loan , electrical bill, and girl problem . that kind of problem most of the time man don't even know what is that but he have to pay for that( i mean you mom . your wife and your girlfriend . and much more . impossible to retired. they will do until your dad bank income at bank become zero .
In Malaysia the Prime Minister and his cronies take the billions of retirement money form the netizens and put it in their own bank account to fund their lavish lifestyle. Who’s wrong here?
U got scammed?!?! Woww...You approached her for the service in the first place and she defo did not forced you to do anything that you didnt want. And then labelling it a "scam" seems more like a case of buyer's remorse or an unwillingness to take responsibility for your own decisions. Just typical westerner especially Australians to generalise and disrespect a culture because of one own discomfort and jumping to conclusions and assigning blame. Please go back to your land down under and stay there.
Be moving to live in TRX Residence early Jan2025…fancy bumping into u there mate since u working in TRX
Great to hear that wish you good luck😂
Expat? You flatter yourself. Condescending racist pretentious grandeous mindset.
In Malaysia workers dont go industrial strike. In Australia transport workers strike inconvenience travellers
Because Malaysia's workers union is such a scam and always backed the government instead of the workers 😂
hai boss,,,,mutual respect,🤝,,, welcome in family msia
