2:35 Yes, true. But being from one of the Malaysian Bornean State, we now can get nice commercial rice wine. Sarawak even has our own beer - 1602 craft beer. I'm no drinker myself but once in a while, I would like a sip or two too. This is probably not known to you because expats don't visit the other side of Malaysia except for the beaches and diving in Sabah, so their impression of Malaysia is peninsula-centric.
Hi Jack😊, Cool Vid👍& I 100%❤M'sia /"Negaraku"❣...& with-that-said: just wanna politely point out that 'the word' "cheap" isn't 'a word' that's associated with M'sia (yeah, it sure is quicker to say "cheap" when speaking vs. e.g. writing), yet: it'd be much appreciated please whenever 'words' e.g. "inexpensive" , "reasonable", "lower-cost", "affordable luxury" are used instead of "cheap" when comparing prices($)/amounts of money($) spent for anything in M'sia vs. e.g. The USA, Europe &/or Australia since M'sia is definitely 'A Highly Quality Country' while being "reasonable in costs" along with being reasonable in many positive ways...Thank You In Advance For Your Consideration(s) Jack
Thank you for this kind comment. I have many local friends and have realised how fortunate I am to have been born in Australia. I hope to educate my family and friends back home and raise awareness and understanding.
One thing foreign youtubers always fail to mention or more likely take for granted of is how english is widely used in Malaysia especially compared to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam or even east asian countries like Japan, S. Korea, China etc. Pretty much everything important is written in english (signboards, apps, instructions, restaurant menus etc plus there are even multiple english speaking radio stations too). U can also go to hospitals, police stations, government agencies etc and use english there without much issues. Hey, I'm a local, and my english is ok right? 😅

Enjoyed the video, your content and energy in presenting. We planning to be in Malaysia for extended periods in next couple years and it was very nice to hear and affirm some of your points. All the best.
Malaysia only has 2 weather (no winter by the way, and never snow) which are sunny all year round with occasional rain. There is a rain season which you may want to avoid. It could rain several times in a day (20-30 minutes long) or in some areas it may rain non stop for several days instead . Unless you do like to walk in the rain.
Malaysia is an up and coming city with lots of potential for growth, and prices are generally still on the affordable side of things. It has all the modern infrastructures and convenience of a developed country, but at a developing country's cost!😅😊
Look forward to watching your dislikes living in Malaysia. Perhaps, you could also do your top ten food in Malaysia, your top ten places in KL and Malaysia.
I love ur comments..u always mentioned that some of your points might be different from local points of view...ur comments definitely not over the moon or fake just to attract the view..in the word i can sense honesty in your point about Malaysia.
Thanks for your view n information about M'sia some times we local don't realise how good is our country even though there are many other things can be improve i will wait until your next video bye🙋♀️
How about Health Facilities? I think it is one of the best. You can walk in to any private clinics if you are not feeling well, you could see a doctor and get medicines in that clinic itself.
You are absolutely right. I plan to make another video just about healthcare. It is WAY better than Australia. I was able to see a specialist, get an MRI scan and see the specialist again a few hours later, for free. In Australia this would take weeks (or even months) and cost a lot of money.
I am a Malaysian. I am quite agreed about the first one about weather. Just go out anytime or days and doesn’t need to check the weather app. Everything that you shared you like I quite agreed. The only thing that should be improved about Malaysia traffic is terrifying. 😬😬
Paid AU$1000 (RM3000) per month for a Unilodge room in Canberra for 3 years. I can rent two decent condos in KL with AU$1000 ( using my brothers rental condo at RM1400/mo partly furnished).

As a malaysian I hope you will love & remember Msia with your sweet moment. Make an experiment & experience it. Go & xplore beautiful of Msia. Hi Jack, perhaps you need to add no.11, the Malaysia has the most public holidays in the world, we celebrates almost all festive seasons such as New Year, Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas, and the list goes on 😅
Another plus point is shopping online either with Shopee & Lazada is super fast & cheap too. I know it takes a long time for online delivery in Melbourne
Great video, we’ve just returned home to Australia from 5 days in Malaysia and 7 days in Singapore, and Malaysia was my favourite. I’m already planning our next trip. Can you please share the link for the 10 things you don’t like, as I can’t find it.
Glad to hear the Bec, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. There's so much to see in Malaysia, I still have a bunch of places and things to do on my list after 2 years! I haven't made the video yet for a few reasons but I will say some of the things I don't like is the rise of negativity towards foreigners & the need to be careful with what I say (some lack of free speech, or more accurately the collectivist mindset). Also traffic and the inefficiencies in the way many things are done. I will make the video, I just need to make sure it's well thought out & researched because I will definitely catch some heat. The things I love definitely overweigh the negatives, so I try to keep positive vibes as much as possible. Enjoy Aus!
Unfortunately a nice 27 degree breezy day on Bondi is pretty rare these days, and when the weather's good - it's packed! Thanks for your comment though - I miss Aussie beaches that's for sure.
Great video & interesting perspective Jack 🙏 I appreciate the cost of living is lower than 🇦🇺 For me the weather is one of the downsides of 🇲🇾( constant humidity & heat) having no distinct seasons is not for me) 😰 I enjoyed visiting KL 👍
Hi Jack, I totally agree with all your reviews. Australia is in high inflation with no job offers. Immigrants and Aussies are struggling with high cost of living. Most people are homeless and relying on social welfare. You are smart to be living in luxury in Malaysia.
What advice do you have for westerners, I'm from the USA, lookng for work in Malaysia? So far I haven't had much luck so any useful insights could be really hepful.
I'll try to help. I didn't actively seek work in Malaysia, it found me. Having said that, it's pretty obvious to me that Western education and even being a native english speaker is highly praised. I would try to find a writing job or something related to english language, you should be a shoe-in if you're from the USA. The hard part will be the wages, you might have to accept a fair bit less money unless your skillset is similar to the above.
not sure if u know bout this, but regarding the alcohol thing, think i seen on most expat vid regarding this is,since malaysia @ any SEA countries are less streesed, and expat can spend 1/2 @ 1/3 from their earning (USD convert RM) working here (malaysia),they tend to less drink as they less stressed, headache, and the weather since sun is most out,its improved the mood, hence less the drinking..some even dont even drink anymore as they getting more happier, leisure life vs how they are in the western country..
yep I definitely agree with that! Makes a lot of sense. I hardly drink anymore and I don't party here, it's been much better for me mentally and for my self development. Thanks for sharing.
@@JackAldertonas someone a local & been exposed to the sun entire life,i kinda never get the gist/why the sun is so important whenever a foreigner always highlighted it out in litearally every vid i seen, but now i get it..being a cold country in a harsh condition (thanks to frostpunk (a surviving game) vs sunny .. back then,in my teen-early adult days,i used to party & clubbing meaning going to cyber cafe, spend hours on gaming pc 🤣🤣🤣..thats how hard i party back then
Great video Jack. Hoping to move to Malaysia in a few months. Perhaps you could make a video on the house renting process & recommend an agent or two? 😊
Thanks mate - hope it goes well and feel free to keep in touch. Good idea, thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime, check out propertyguru and iproperty. Find high-rated agents (most are in higher end condos) and they will go above and beyond to show you available units (including driving you around) - it's a GREAT experience compared to Australia haha.
@@JackAlderton absolutely. Will do Jack. So look forward to being in KL. Great tips. Will surely check out those sites and reach out to agents. Good to know agents take good care of you there :)
The east coast is nice, there are alot to discover....yes they are coservative but they will not impose it to tourist... Please visit kota bharu kelantan & its beaches ....you may proceed to kuala terengganu too...
Nice video Mate... I am not sure but did you mention the #1 ease about Malaysia is the fact of the English language spoken and used widely. 😊 It helps tremendously with assimilation compared to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, etc in South East Asia. Especially for bureaucracy issues as well as hospital visits. The ability to express yourself on a daily level whatever your activities are makes living in another country much easier when ones Mother tongue language is also spoken. 😁
That is very true - thanks for raising this. Perhaps it's something I take for granted. I'm amazed that almost everyone here can speak at least 3 languages - very impressive!
Absolutely on points🎉 People really need to travel around to gauge the reality comparisons. Still, it depends on individual luck and fate. Many might not have such capacity to work it out. But for those who can, why not travel more and choose while they have choices in hand. When, a person is financially free and capable basically most countries around the world are good(i mean those good countries - most Europe and some Asian countries) to live but they lack of cultural diversity and tolerance like Malaysia and Singapore. Then, why Malaysia? Simply put - abundance of fresh products where you need not to worry about like people in other parts of the world. Able to live a bit lavishly and quality life but at a very discounted price. Boring? Just take a week or month to get wild in Thailand or Japan or Indonesia or elsewhere ... And back to Malaysia for a good relax and recharge ❤ - a dude from Melaka
it's easy to calculate the difference in living profit in malaysia through the difference of your currency with the malaysia profit as much, if UK in malaysia the difference is 6x times. if usa is different 4x. if Australia is 3x different. UK citizens are very fortunate to live in Malaysia with 6x more profit than living in the UK by enjoying better facilities than the UK and Malaysia is more modern than the UK
Great insights man. I'm planning to do the same and move to Thailand later this year. I found it surprising to hear that accomodation in Malaysia was cheaper than Thailand. Not what I was expecting. What made you decide to go with Malaysia?
Mate, go for it! Best decision you'll make and worse case you can always go back. I think it depends entirely on your situation. For me, I got a sweet job offer that paid the same (more actually) than my Aussie income. No brainer to move when you get more holidays and
I lived in Sydney for a few years. While I like the weather, outdoor park, bbq and beaches, housing is just a nightmare. Get paid in oz dollar or whatever higher currency there is and live in KL where housing is just in oversupply.
In recent years, expatriates coming to Malaysia must be very satisfied, as the depreciation of the Malaysian Ringgit makes it very affordable for them. However, for us Malaysians, traveling abroad is becoming increasingly difficult.
That's true - thanks for sharing. Yes I have felt it a bit, I get paid in MYR and it has depreciated a fair bit against the USD and AUD. I hope it bounces back!
Hi there, hard to predict but the way things are going I think it will become even more attractive in terms of cost of living and stability. Having said that, there is a slight negative attitude forming in SEA about foreigners (joining the global phenomenon). I'm not sure how that will play out.. stay tuned.
Hi Jack great video what is the name of the condo you are staying at - looking at a few different places for rent but many have a lot of Air BNB cheers
@@JackAlderton great thanks for the reply will have a look later out in April to look at a few place with potentially relocating from the uk in August - noticed many of the Condos are busy with Airbnb which we want to try and avoid - look forward to the video 👍
Your 10 points are spot on. I watched plenty of youtubers' videos on their 10 best or 10 worst things about Malaysia. Your list differs from them a little bit and I agreed to all 10. However, I'll wait till you posted the video on 10 things you don't like about Malaysia before I subscribe to your channel.. make it good mate 😂😂✌
Haha appreciate that. I'll give it some thought but I'll tell you one negative now - people get very defensive. It's hard to constructively criticise anything without getting in a fight. Though this is the same in most countries now.. including Australia, so it's not unique to Malaysia!
@@JackAlderton If the criticism comes in any other language but English, it is fine I guess because only citizens from that country will suck it up. Otherwise, if it's in English, the whole world will get the misinformation (if it is misinformation). So.. make sure you know your stuff.
Great question - thanks for the suggestion. I'd love to make a full video on this but I'll answe succinctly here: Social life is excellent IF you put yourself out there and mingle with expat communities. There are many expats from all around the world here but westerners MAY find it difficult to really find the social life they're used to with locals because of religious differences. Depends how open-minded you are. This also applies to dating - I had a few dodgy scenarios when I was unaware of the ettiquete when I first moved here. In general, it is great if you're open minded and upfront with your intentions. If you're looking for a more similar religious and cultural environment to the West, Philippines would be closer.
Hey mate, depends on the company. Local pay is not good, but if you can get in with a multinational (which you should be able to from US) then the pay is very good relative to the cost of living. I work for a fintech company.
I am a Malaysian so here are a few thoughts on your video. Firstly what is woke? It's become such a toxic word in western culture but all it is is awareness of social injustice and racial discrimination. It's a good thing if you think you're a decent person. Secondly crime in Malaysia is usually just petty crime like snatch theft etc. There is extremely low violent crime in Malaysia. Thirdly the fuel is heavily subsidised by the government but that ia going away. Diesel prices have already rosen dramatically and ron95 will also be going up soon. The subsidies are going to be targetted rather than blanketed. All the other points you've made are pretty much on point. Like you've said, if you live in or near the city center then public transport is relatively convenient but if you move into the suburbs then having a car is much more convenient.
Thanks for your comment! 1. I partly agree. Many 'good' people would consider themselves a good person (and be right) but be opposed to the prospect of being cancelled by a small minority for simply having a traditional opinion. If it's fair and bipartisan then in theory yes, but in practice, it's usually not. For example, the 'wokeness' I'm referring to may try (and have) to minimise my opinion and life experience based on the colour of my skin, which ironically is racial discrimination. 2. Absolutely! I will do a full video on this. 3. Yes it's interesting. If you tell someone from the West that fossil fuels are subsidised in any way they will be shocked 😂 (this goes back to point 1!) Thanks, and yes you're definitely right about the car. Not everywhere is covered by public transport (similar to most cities).
Yes safe, but the road rules are less strict than the west. You will see many people speeding on highways for example. Commonwealth country so they drive on the left (British system).
Hello brother, I really appreciate your videos. I'm living in Canada originally from Trinidad and Tobago( Caribbean) can't move back home too much crime and it does not have a stable economy. Canada after 5 years is not for me....what will you advise when it comes to moving to Malaysia and jobs? Also the visa process is what I'm interested in. If I get the opportunity to come to Malaysia I will in a heartbeat 💓
Sorry to hear Canada didn't work out for you - I've heard similar from others too. Job-wise it would honestly depend on your skillset and qualifications as there is a big income disparity here. If you can land a good 5-figure job, it will be a smooth process visa-wise (as they will sponsor you) - otherwise it will be difficult unless you can support yourself through a biz or freelance income. Hope it works out for you! Thanks for your comment.
Do you think it's a good place for entrepreneurs to move there and raise a family? How would you compare Australia to Malaysia in terms of talent and ease of doing business?
Yes, significantly better IF you're running a global operation (have customers from other countries.) The talent is just as good (if not better) for a fraction of the price. Local Malaysians are in general significantly underpaid. Ease of business is also better, less red tape but the one downside is the rule of law (or lack of). I personally still feel safer keeping my assets in Aus.
I hope you got at least one valuable takeaway from this video and it opened your eyes to another part of the world. Please let me know by leaving your thoughts or questions as a comment below right now.

Enjoy Aus!
It's a tad too hot and humid in KL. A nice 27 degree breezy day on Bondi beats any day in KL.
Unfortunately a nice 27 degree breezy day on Bondi is pretty rare these days, and when the weather's good - it's packed!
Thanks for your comment though - I miss Aussie beaches that's for sure.
Awesome video! Sounds like a great place to live.
thanks for watching bro!
Just found your page, thanks for the information, feeling inspired to check Malaysia out.
Thanks mate - definitely an amazing place.
Hi, Very informative video Jack. Keep it up. We love Malaysia and hope soon I will be there. Thank you
Thanks mate - lots more coming. Hope to see you here!
Fair enough! I do blast the airconditioning 😆 Thanks for your comment.
I love your videos Jack, I am a Malaysian but live in Europe for many years. I do miss my Malaysian family, friends and Malaysian food a lot. ❤
Thank you! Hope you make the most of Europe, I haven't had a chance to explore it properly yet.
Hi Jack, I totally agree with all your reviews. Australia is in high inflation with no job offers. Immigrants and Aussies are struggling with high cost of living. Most people are homeless and relying on social welfare. You are smart to be living in luxury in Malaysia.
i agree with on time transportations
yep! thanks for watching
@@JackAldertonas someone a local & been exposed to the sun entire life,i kinda never get the gist/why the sun is so important whenever a foreigner always highlighted it out in litearally every vid i seen, but now i get it..being a cold country in a harsh condition (thanks to frostpunk (a surviving game) vs sunny .. back then,in my teen-early adult days,i used to party & clubbing meaning going to cyber cafe, spend hours on gaming pc 🤣🤣🤣..thats how hard i party back then
Awesome video mate!
Thanks Christopher!
Thank you!! Very insightful! Pls post more!!
Thank you! Lots more coming.
Excellent information🙏👏❤️
Glad you liked it - thanks!
Brother I live in Malaysia.I am in Sarawak city miri
Ayy nice mate! I'd love to visit Sarawak, hopefully next year
The east coast is nice, there are alot to discover....yes they are coservative but they will not impose it to tourist... Please visit kota bharu kelantan & its beaches ....you may proceed to kuala terengganu too...
Would love to, I have seen some nice beaches and islands there!
Nice video Mate...
I am not sure but did you mention the #1 ease about Malaysia is the fact of the English language spoken and used widely. 😊
It helps tremendously with assimilation compared to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, etc in South East Asia.
Absolutely on points🎉
People really need to travel around to gauge the reality comparisons.
And back to Malaysia for a good relax and recharge ❤

Amazing comment, thanks for writing it - agree!!
Welcome to malaysia and congratulations!
Thank you! 😃
Malaysia made luxury affordable
100%
Yes it rained all month with cloudy skies the first time I was there
:(
Great vid man, love it
Thanks bro! keep up the good work
Very precise explanation about Malaysia
Thanks! 😃
Super interresting again , thank you
You're welcome Bernard, hope to see you here!
@@JackAlderton we plan to come yes , within a year or so, it would be great to meet for sure :) thank you
it's easy to calculate the difference in living profit in malaysia through the difference of your currency with the malaysia profit as much, if UK in malaysia the difference is 6x times. if usa is different 4x. if Australia is 3x different. UK citizens are very fortunate to live in Malaysia with 6x more profit than living in the UK by enjoying better facilities than the UK and Malaysia is more modern than the UK
Yes that's roughly true. Thanks for your comment!
No brainer to move when you get more holidays and
Thank you. I suggest your next destination is east coast...Kelantan Terengganu
On my list!
Great, I love watching your video bro👏
Thanks Zach, lots more coming!
@@JackAlderton wow I'm excited 🤩
I lived in Sydney for a few years. While I like the weather, outdoor park, bbq and beaches, housing is just a nightmare. Get paid in oz dollar or whatever higher currency there is and live in KL where housing is just in oversupply.
Absolutely agree. And it's just getting worse!
Living the dream! Wish I could do this.
Nice vlog !❤
thank you!
Thank you for your honest comment...
Welcome!
Hi Jack,
Do you think it would still be as beneficial to expat to KL in 5 years time? Not in a position to move anytime soon
Sorted now already watch ed the video 👍
Hey mate! I previously stayed at 'Aria Luxury Residences'. Now I'm living at 'Setia Sky' Jalan Raja Uda - I'll do a video on it soon. Both are great.
How do you compare the social life and dating there with somehwere like the Philipines???
It would be really interesting to know the differences.
Great question - thanks for the suggestion.
I'd love to make a full video on this but I'll answe succinctly here:
Social life is excellent IF you put yourself out there and mingle with expat communities.
Jack how are IT salaries? Cybersecurity, data science, etc. If I get a degree here in the States or certs, what would be the path to take?
Hey mate, depends on the company. Local pay is not good, but if you can get in with a multinational (which you should be able to from US) then the pay is very good relative to the cost of living. I work for a fintech company.
Very true. I spent there nearly 10 years ❤
Welcome to Malaysia, enjoy your day.😊😊
Thank you!
If you tell someone from the West that fossil fuels are subsidised in any way they will be shocked 😂 (this goes back to point 1!)
Thanks, and yes you're definitely right about the car. Not everywhere is covered by public transport (similar to most cities).
Thank you mate🫡 greetings from Melbourne
is driving rules followed and safe to drive between cities in Maaysia ? do they drive on the Britch or US side of the road?
Yes safe, but the road rules are less strict than the west. You will see many people speeding on highways for example. Commonwealth country so they drive on the left (British system).
@@JackAlderton oh no not driving on left omg
Foodpanda delivery available also
yes that's true, I've always used Grab but some people prefer foodpanda - thanks!
Where is the nearest beach? You should a photo of you with beach behind you, are there any nearby, or you need to fly to nearest one?
Love this!
Thank you!! Vid popped 🔥
Thank you for all the positive feedback & comments abt our beautiful country🌺🌹Malaysia ❤🇲🇾Welcome to our country 🌺

Thank you for the video. Subscribed!! A piece of advice, please go to East Malaysia and you'll see a different world😊you will be surprised.

Do you think it's a good place for entrepreneurs to move there and raise a family? How would you compare Australia to Malaysia in terms of talent and ease of doing business?
Yes, significantly better IF you're running a global operation (have customers from other countries.)
The talent is just as good (if not better) for a fraction of the price. Local Malaysians are in general significantly underpaid.
Ease of business is also better, less red tape but the one downside is the rule of law (or lack of). I personally still feel safer keeping my assets in Aus.
Also obvious one, but taxes are significantly lower too.
Enjoy your stay here Jack
You should explore the islands in Malaysia because they are more interesting than the beaches in the city
absolutely! I went to Langkawi and really loved it.
@@JackAlderton Go to the island on the east side of the peninsula
