Builders Secrets: How To Save $$$$ On Your New Home!
CAUTION!!! I would be very careful about trying this method. You will see a huge difference in the sheen if you start rolling random areas of your wall. You have to "feather" the paint out from the center, blending all of the edges outwards. You do this by starting from the middle and applying less and less pressure as you paint outwards until you gently lift the roller off the wall completely. However, there's an even better method if you're touching up a small repair area, say an inch or two or less. You should actually use a brush. Start by wetting the paint down just a bit. It's latex so you can add water if you don't have Floetrol. You don't have to be super careful with how much you add either, just enough to make the paint a little runny; this will help match the sheen. Now hold the brush perpendicular to the wall. Then lightly dab the end of the brush against the wall, being careful to only paint out as far as is needed to cover the blemish. The reason you dab instead of brush is because it matches the texture. You don't want brush marks on the wall. You'll still be able to see a difference in the sheen, but it will only be an inch or two, whereas if you do what this guy showed in the vid you're gonna have a big mess on your hands. You would have to repaint the entire wall at that point if you wanted the sheen to be uniform. Anyways, good luck with your projects friends!
I did that on my walls, looks terrible as you can see the difference even when dried up and using the same paint 😞
Yeah he actually didn't show good technique. I work for a commercial general contractor who showed me a good way to do it. If it's small, like an two inches or less, you use only a brush. Except you dab the end of the brush against the wall, so the brush is perpendicular to the wall, instead of brushing it back and forth. This matches the texture. But you only cover the small spot that needs to be touched up. The bigger you go with the new paint the more you will see the difference in sheen. Once the sheen is messed up you kinda just have to repaint the entire wall. You can touch up with a roller too, but you'll still see the sheen. How you do that is you start at the center with some pressure and then as you roll out you let off the pressure until the roller is just barely touching the wall. What that does is "feather" the paint out. It blends the difference in sheen from the new paint to the old. You'll still see it but it's way less eye catching. Good luck with your project!
@davidgatten1033 Thank you for taking the time to explain 😊
Short and to the point, thank you. I didn’t find the music to be annoying. The music is either lowered or muffled when you're speaking, Which I can clearly hear what you’re saying. Just my 2cents. Great video
Basic and to the point. Wish more vids were like this. LOL, I try to make mine short and non annoying too.😅
What about the oxidation that happens?
This is a short informative video. Answers my question without any superfluous comments. Great!
Thank you for this info. I decided to knock down and rebuild. One advantage cost wise is that I don’t have to pay impact fees, since I’m not building on raw land, but replacing an existing building. So impact fees are almost all paid for already.
Just what I needed
How is the strength if hung off the ceiling for example a hammock chair?
The new paint difference remains and does not disappear
I'd be interested to know how much prices have gone up, and what we'd expect to pay now compared to 2021?
Who in the world can watch this? Listen to that concert behind you. I thought you were showing us how to patch.
Why are you so easily triggered is the bigger question
Awesome video. Thanks for showing us before the plaster is applied- it gives a good understanding of the layout of the frames. I have a steel frame house and wanted to determine how easy it might be to feed the cabling through the wall for a wall mounted TV as well. Also a bit of proof that it should hold up quite easily too!
H, how loud are the pool pumps installed for CMA built pools?
Building nice homes by the sound of it. Not doing much for first home buyers. Never mention GST. Always put on top. 10 % for consumer, big penalty for most.
Hey mate i am in victoria. Melbourne. My builder have taken 14 months to build 23 sqr house . How do i calculate the number of days delayed.
Will the touched up paint look different until it dries?
Hi Chris, I am one of your customers, and as you mentioned In video I would like to get contact with you so can you please let me know how can I ? Thanks Jigs
Wow. Debt free business? How good is that. :) How about if the builder is offering build now pay later?
Not many building companies would agree to have a colour selection before you sign the contract is the problem. Especially if you need a custom design.
You lost your little buddy
Thank you Chris Even though I have my absolute beautiful home by CMA , I really enjoy keeping up on the information you provide.... To everyone that is still unsure , CMA didn't disappointed me at all .....
Great video thank you Chris ! I’m a bit disappointed with CMA Northlakes (QLD) l went there to make some enquires in regards to building at the Sunshine Coast and l left my number with reception but no one called me back. I think reception should have information regarding price list and processes to help clients who come in
I really enjoyed what you had to say and learned something new. I will tell you the music is annoying and you don’t need it. People are coming to your site to hear you and that music is too loud and it’s just annoying. You don’t need it what you have to say is what most important.
You’re amazing! Please expand to Victoria!!! We want to build but find a builder we trust. Keep these podcasts going!
Thank you :) One day it is going to happen !
Thanks Chris for what was a very informative episode, particularly given the current circumstances we face. We're in the process of weighing up designs and builders to complete our first new home build and my partner and I are feeling very overwhelmed by the process. So every bit of extra knowledge we have going into it is much appreciated. We are all but certain we'll be engaging Homes by CMA to build our home, no other builder we've approached has been as open and transparent as CMA. I guess we'll be reaching out for a face to face meeting with Chris in the coming months :)
Thank you ! It is certainly not easy so hopefully we can provide a bit of help and understanding in what is sometimes (often) a very confusing industry !
Loved it! You've just reaffirmed for me that building my home with you has been the best decision for me. Looking forward to hopefully meeting at handover🎉🎉🎉
Great to hear :)
Welcome back Chris and the CMA pod cast to 2023 Metricon or Brighton will go bust. We are nearly at PCI with CMA best experience for our custom acreage home we are looking forward to our handover soon.
Thanks Jeff ! That is Fantastic to hear !!!!
I have a feeling your prediction might be close to the mark, after our experience dealing with Brighton in particular we won't be touching them. I'm looking for a home builder, not a Sports Stadium sponsor
Brighton offered a leased solar option to try and push sales
@@MrXRP787 we know, they also pushed us for a deposit before we even found a design we liked.
Loved it. Thank you 😊
Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed it !
My prediction to go down is Bold living. Mark my words.
I don't think Brighton are far behind :(
Some bold predictions here !
Finally a new Podcast. i really enjoy your content. I’m building now and regret we didn’t know about Homes By CMA. This because we moved from Victoria. Hopefully our next home.
Very happy you enjoyed it ! Next time for sure :)
Hello we are looking for a quote to build our design in 4500 area Brisbane
I'm sure we can help ! If you can email our Sales Manager at Megan.b@homesbycma.com.au that would be amazing
As a carpenter for 35yrs I don't recommend timber frames and trusses for any new home or renovation work for that matter it's just rubbish and tradesmen don't enough time to fix it during construction. One of the biggest defects in new homes today is timber wall frames and trusses and who could forget? dodgy builders lol. Timber used in construction today is better known as banana pine and for good reason! I much prefer to leave any leftover timber onsite than take it home to burn it in my firepit lol
Absolutely love the show thank you guys
You missed Cost, rust, thermal bridging, sound transferring and in terms of remodeling. Don't get me wrong. I more like light gauge metal frame than wood when it comes to American platform framing.
"Sound transfer"? Im Not familiar with that aspect. But nothing is more important to me than Sound proofing / deadening / blocking. Both internal & external noise transfer. Guess I'll investigate that aspect. Thanks for mentioning
Why didn't you mention costs, including the price of the materials, labor costs, and time to complete the construction?
Nailed it guys About to sign my contract with CMA in next few days. Have to admit the team at CMA have followed through the process that you guys talked about in this video. Looking fwd to the building journey with you guys Arun
Very helpful lads. I am interested in a partial knockdown / rebuild in a few years. We have just finished an extension which we'd love to keep and knock down original house to build a two level home as our views have been built out with houses in front since purchase. My query is if we're using the same footprint is it cheaper to knock down home and keep slab / flooring and all pipes etc underneath home that can be relocated to new position points or is it best to completely knock down and re do?
Thanks guys. Very informative
If I want to mount some 65x65x2.5 SHS onto my steel frame for a floating desk/bench will Tek screws still be suitable or do I need something like spring toggles etc?
earned the hard way. I painted my kitchen last winter. Touched up a few spots after removing an outlet cover (which tore up the first applied paint in the winter) and the new touchup paint went on differently. Shadowy. Just realized painting in different temperatures will yield different results
What is about price difference
Please upload more, miss your videos
Is that appliance paint in a can?
Hello, we have like 60 days of delays compared to the contract allowed days for construction. Should the builder pay a cost to us as per the contract?
Excellent information, my rental property had a fire and I’m looking into a knock down and build, I’ve learnt a lot from you, thanks for your guidance 👏👏👏
Awesome podcast men, we're currently building building with you and a lot of what you have mentioned we have put into our new home, good work and continue to put out the good words 👍
So what happened to you guys ? Why the videos stopped coming these days ? I am doing an owner build in Melbourne with absolutely no previous experience and these are great educational videos for me.
Thanks very much for sharing this great information. I now can understand more clearly about site cost. I paid deposit with another builder but cancelled and I will go with CMA . Thanks guys
Are we going to get a season 2?
