I have barred rocks, and Rhode Island reds, , just one hen and ended up with a rooster barred rock. They’re one of the few breeds you can pick a male or female , at 2 to 3 days old, the male will be a lighter like smoke grey and white, and when they get older the males feet will go full yellow, the females will stay with black in the feet. They won’t crow till about 10 to 12 weeks, but will start trying to try at 7 or 8 weeks. Rhode Island Red you have to do the feather method, looking at the tail and wings, I ended up with a rooster with that breed to. I wand a rooster for each breed. They got a long good till the hens started laying. So they both have some hen and I separated then. But I tell you what raised them from chicken, besides the 2 rooster pecking at each other never had any other issues. They walk around my dogs and live with my 4 duck. Very hearty birds. This season going to add a few more barred rocks, and I want to get a few gentle giants they call them the Brahma. Got over a half acre going to fence so they all can run and go to there house. Duck are a trip, there just messy with there water lol

After a year or two in the sun those zip ties will get brittle, and will break. She’ll have to do it all over again with wire.

Alrighty, we've a couple hens - ISA browns - and they are almost 5 months old. Should we expect eggs soon? Their wattles and combs are redder and bigger!

I would like to make a valid point? Whilst you have used cable ties,,my advice would be to stitch through the chainlink fencing or chicken wire around the home sercomfrence of the frame, This can be tediouse but you can do a section at a time when your board, I would go around the bottom of the coop with a 6 x1 wooden frame, Once you have done this you can connect a solar electric fence, How to do this use a galvanized wire bare something like wrkd wire would be good rap this around the would with three to four raps, This will keep rats mice low predators out, You can get a good deal on TEMU for solar electric fence, 😂

Simple way to predator proof is to use 12x12 concrete squares around the pen

At the door if you take the top bar and put it at the bottom and raise the door it creates a little barrier so animals dont try to escape while youre entering or exiting.

I have 2 of them. They are garbage. You can do much better for much cheaper with chicken wire and 2x2s. Mine are rusting out and falling apart after just 1.5 years. Absolute garbage. Had the tarp on the back that filled with water and collapsed the entire ceiling that i had to reenforce with lumber. All those zip ties when a stapeler would work great on 2x2s.

hi. i feed my two road iland red hens , with huge cockroachs , at most of nights here. QUESTION1 : is it wrong to let them eat cockroaches?! QUESTION2 : how many hours takes time , for that eaten cockroach, to change into eggs? QUESTION3: does this effect on egg's taste?! QUESTION4: should we eat eggs made out of cockroaches? or let them to change into baby chickens?! 🐣🐥

our neighbors just let the chickens free range and they seem to be doing ok, they have a house to go to that sits off the ground. I'm surprised bnecause we have our fair share of coyotes and such, but the yseem to be doing ok...,They do have a roster though

I got 3 hens don’t know how old they are we had them one week first time letting them out so friendly, my dog loves them.

The problem with this run is amazon forgot to cover one side of it .... The bottom. Biggest pests dig under. Raccoons. Also clam shell pieces on the ground for added calcium and thicker shells. Red bulb in hen house at night to help lay eggs. Chickens fav snack is a handful of rice.
