I hope this works. I had one like that and she grew up to be a psychopath. When I was trying to introduce eggers, her sister has to be jailed for bullying. Then I caught her on top on one of the eggers, crushing her and bashing her in the head. When I moved her to jail with her sister; we are talking less than 2 hours apart, she jumped on her sister screaming and ripped part of her comb off. Then she became dinner. It's very sad when that happens, but it does happen and sometimes the behavior cannot be changed. My bloodlines are important and do not tolerate bullying and targeting. It stresses the entire flock and you don't want that.
Hey Vic, I have a suggestion for your grown chicken run. I have/had the exact same water source for my chicken runs. I got tired of all mosquitoes. They fill my roost boxes. I bought some 5 gallon buckets w/lids and installed the little individual watering cups. Their water lasts longer and is cleaner now. I set one up weeks ago in their free range area, so they could get accustomed to using it and now have one in each roost box area.
I hope Jupiter is able to adjust with the other chicks in time. Just keep an eye as they get bigger that she doesn't abuse the buff orphington-causing stress...buffs are very docile birds. I've had to give away a hen that proved overly aggressive to the flock-causing one hen to be picked on. Once she was gone, group dynamics changed and no one bothered the smallest hen. She was able to thrive and be happy.
Thank you for this information!! I’ve been keeping a close eye on them and Jupiter is now fully back with the flock. She hasn’t shown signs of any aggressive behavior the past several days. Hopefully all goes smooth from here. 🙏🏼
Your brooder is a little bit on the small side my brooder is also on the small side but i let them run around the coop everyday especially since they're at the age where they run around a lot what do you have is probably find for a couple weeks but as soon as they develop those flight feathers they're gonna need a lot more room
We have the same problem with three two week old chicks picking on a smaller chick. It’s late now but tomorrow we’ll place one of the culprits in the box with the little one. I’m hoping two of the three were mimicking the one. I’m hoping we can determine which one is the troublemaker. Would like any advice you can give. No blood yet. Great video, very informative. We’re new at this so I’m going to follow you.
Best of luck to you! Thank you for the follow. What I did in my video worked out great for my flock. The bully stopped bullying and they’ve all been together for a few weeks now with no issues.
Hello I’m new to your channel I too want to start raising my own chickens but I don’t have any experience with chickens at all. So I have a couple of questions. First question do you keep your baby chicks outside or in? Second question where did you get your chicks? And lastly is it hard or difficult to raise them?
That awesome!! Welcome! We keep ours outside. The first time we got chicks we did keep them inside. With baby chicks they MUST be kept at a warm enough temperature, have full protection from predators, maintain a clean environment and have constant access to fresh water and food! I’ll be making a more in depth video introducing my chicks and let y’all know what I do to raise them. I personally think it’s fun and easy raise them but everyone is different deleting on your lifestyle 👍🏼 do lots of research and be prepared for chicks! I get my chicks at Sea Breeze Hens in San Leon TX they are amazing and I can text the owner any time with questions.
May I ask how things are going now with the aggressive chick? When I saw this last night, I had a feeling your best bet might be to exchange the aggressive chick for another one with the seller due to the unusual severity of the pecking. The reason I ask is that I just received from a neighbor three two-week-old Easter Eggers who are the daughters of one of my year-old hens. They had hatched them for me in exchange for my giving them a full hatch of fertilized eggs. One of them, Carly, is mildly aggressive in that she tends to try to peck at eyes. They all get along and play together really well. It's just that I am concerned that she might damage an eye. IF need be, I will follow your plan of making her a little time-out jail within the brooder. I know all the chicks received extremely good care and my neighbors weren't having any behavior issues. I hope things resolved well for you and your babies. Thank you for posing this video. It was perfect timing for me to see it.
Hello!! So my girl stopped being agressive and they’ve all been in the same living area for several weeks now and I haven’t noticed any bad behavior! Thank goodness! The chick jail worked great for my chick! I did monitor them the first several days more than usual and would place her back in her jail if needed but all has been well for several weeks now. I hope this method works for you too! Luckily our girl did not target any eyes. Best of luck!
Also to add, In my opinion it’s very important that the chick can still see and hear her flock having a wired fence separating them like I did would be ideal. The babies need their flock still 👍🏼
Sorry you are having issues with an aggressive chick. You might want to try giving them more room. Your brooder is small for 5 chicks. They need 2 square feet of space per chick. Also, it may be too warm and bright for them. A larger brooder will give them ability to be farther from the heat source and brightness if they need to cool off. I use a heat plate which doesn't use light. It's more natural for them to sleep under since it mimics being under a mother hen. All the best! 🐤😊
Thanks you for your advice! We actually do have a heating plate with brooder and heat setting we used that the first time we got chicks and it also works great. We are keeping our chicks outside so we opted for the heating lamp to keep them warm enough in the cooler temps outside as the plate does not get warm enough since they still have a lot of down. As they get bigger we move them to a bigger space with heating plate if temps permit and depending if they are fully feathered yet 👍🏼

Wow that’s terrible! Sorry to hear. She is back with her flock now and we haven’t had any issues since. I hope it stays that way!

Yes they will be moved to a coop - don’t worry 😊
@@chrisweese7013 yeah sometimes I have to get a little creative with my chicks at least now they're old enough to free roam

@@vicsbackyardchicks6626 okay thank you I’m kinda scared 😟 but I think once I get them I won’t be as scared.

Pretty typical , they are devolving pecking order , but some are worse than others , give them space and if it continues cull the bad chicken !
Thanks for your input!! Jupiter stopped aggressively pecking and she is back with the flock like normal 🙏🏼

You’re making me want to chew a piece of gum soooo bad rn
You called the breeder because of an aggressive chick ?
Yes… I needed advice from her she is very kind 👍🏼
Hi sun
You can clip the end of the beek
Once a chicken gets the taste of blood it will not stop!
I realized that! Lol. Luckily they are all now acting totally normal together 🙏🏼 Jupiter was taken out of jail a while ago
Was she a he?
Nope, she is a hen! Giving us green eggs and is perfectly in with the entire flock 👍🏼
