Cracked coils seem pretty standard on these old motors. My Johnson Seahorse 3 HP also has cracked coils. Your motor and my Evinrude 9 1/2 HP Twin Sport are the same construction. The coils were changed in mine before I got it. I love this engine as they're almost indestructible when taken care of.

Once it's starts bouncing you went to far trim it back down a touch where ever it smooths out is your sweet spot

I try to trim the porousing to make it a smoother ride.

CK, add the smaller doil fins on your motor and it will stop your proposing problem and help gas mileage. Will not slow your speed down.I installed one on my alumacraft 1756 and helped tremendously. Be sure and get the smaller set that is made for up to 75 hp I think.Yuo wont be sorry!Purchased mine at Academy outdoors!

That's pretty fast. I ran a Merc 50 on a 16ft Lund Alaskan and could get about 32 mph top speed

judging by how much it porpoises, its not meant to go that fast..

Nice boat. I have something very similar with a 28hp Johnson spl. With 2 men I can go about 25-26 mph. I would think that 50 Mercury you should get 45 mph or so. Feels like faster on the water in a 16 foot jon boat though. Enjoy yourself!

Hunting the northwoods is always a challenge! We’ve had plenty of years were there hasn’t been a deer seen!
