Going solo in France
France
Приєднався 8 бер 2022
Join me as I start my new life alone in a foreign land, Not much money, No job and no language skills. What could go wrong?
In the spring of 2018 I bought an abandoned farmers cottage with around 3 acres of land deep in the french countyside. The plan was to use the place as a weekend getaway, somewhere to relax as well as as somewhere to renovate.
In March 2022 I took the leap, I decided to give up my life and business in the UK and move to the cottage permanently. Join me as I continue the renovations and create a homestead from scratch.

Hi Marc a very good video thoroughly enjoyed it, lots and lots of work achieved, please could you tell me the make of your little chain saw also the wattage or speed don’t know anything about them but need one. Hugs to little teddie, take care❤️
You’ve done a great job in your orchard, it looks very tidy. You’ve definitely had a good day 😊
Hello Marc you seem happier and brighter today thank goodness .So nice to see Teddy keeping an eye on you ❤
You are much happier when you can go out in your garden and tidy it up Marc. Yes I see the gaffer watching you work hard 🤣😘
Just a thought! You could rescue another kit Kat.brother or sister for company? They could play together without bothering you?❤
Good job Marc on the Down pipe. ❤ you know, since I started watching your channel, you’ve done so much to your yard. Fencing, gates, planting etc. great job.
Do be care on the ladder. You did great work, nice working in that lovely weather. Do please let Teddy out with you. He would love it.
Thanks for your reply on Teddy's channel. I thought all vidoes were monetised when you reached a thousand subscribers
A channel needs 4000 hours of watch time in a 12 month period too... That'll take a while :-)
Marc, I've seen videos where people are putting baskets on their bikes and bringing their cats along for rides....also, have seen cats on the beach, etc.! Teddy will become your best friend before you know it! He is exactly what you need!
I think mowing is over for the season here. The temperature is down into the high 30's F. and it is snow flurrying.
He will give you so many laughs and so much joy.
Is a soakaway ever used to receive rainwater from a gutter downpipe? Seeing your current setup (which is close to being one, and seems to be working well) made me wonder if perhaps a small sub-turf gravel soakaway might work through wetter spells in winter? Cant claim to really know what I'm talking about though. Just a thought.
Hi Marc you sound and look much more up beat weather definitely helps, your mainly an outdoor person like me,so when sun shines so do I. Spoiling yourself with new boots 😂,your garden is looking good so tidy. I see good times ahead in the garden with Teddy. J had a part Siamese cat years ago black &white more white than black,Peter was his name,he was probably the daftest cat I've had, very talkative, and would sleep.in the oddest places, tops of doors, yes the narrow bit, over the pot of tea with the tea cosy on,great cat Teddy reminds me of him his build is much the same, brings back memories .❤
Hi Marc, pleased Teddy is still with you. It will be much better as soon as he can go outside and he will be great company for you!
Teddie is as “bright as a button” and will enjoy his surroundings when he gets out there - he is just raring to go. He looks so intelligent and handsome 😀
Teddy is so cute .
You have the most beautiful garden & land
Mark you must remember that you don’t need to speak English to watch a cat video.
Excellent observation. Never thought of that! Kitten is an universal language!
❤❤❤🖤
cats are the greatest creatures on earth. Teddy was the reason l stopped to watch. Please show more of him. Petting a cat is so calming . He is a baby and yes like some of the comments they grow up so quickly. Don't forget to get him neutered.
What a difference a day makes. Page effectively turned and lawn very effectively mown 👍
I guess the mowing is very theraputic....
I am a loyal subscriber but find myself disappointed. Your previous video expreesed your doubts about having taken on Teddy as he was too " difficult" and you weren't feeling well. Kittens like human babies go through phases and do settled down and become calmer. Initially having Teddy seemed to cheer you up then you began to have doubts..... Not everything is under our control and this is a good thing as it ensure that we remain flexible adapatable and open-minded. It also makes us think beyond ourselves, which is also good for us. If you decide to return Teddy or give him away, I think you will be a lesser person for it. I have rescued about 20 cats and found homes for them over the last few years and still have 4 still with me. It has involved sacrifice and has not been easy but I do not regret it for a moment. They enrich my life and take me beyond myself and give me back far more than I have given them. I worry that your dietary changes which entail mainly meat and very little else are also leading to your lethargy and health issues. Vitamins alone cannot take the place of phytonutrients and enzymes found in living food like plants, fruits and fermented foods. I never usually comment like this, but am doing so becuase I care about you and Teddy. Best wishes
I commend you on your rescue work. That's awesome. But remember "What is good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander!" Marc was being honest and didn't feel well. I hope he keeps Teddy. But in the end it's up to Marc.
Hello Marc and Teddy xx Great video you are always busy Marc ❤❤ xx
Marc I enjoy your channel very much and it distresses me when you are having a bad day. I have noticed that when there are several NO sun days in a row, you get depressed. That is normal....we all do that. You might try special daylight lamps for inside the house on those days, or making plans with someone for coffee or an adventure on your new bike. Something out of the house. You will feel better. A large number of people suffer from environmental depression, around the world. ❤❤
You right. We live up in Brittany and now as we go into winter and grey days abound. It definitely lowers my mood.
When is Teddy going to be allowed outside? 😊
It's an unexpectedly early -31°C here, and I'm seeing if I can survive keeping the house at 19°C. 🥶 I might have to cave and up the thermostat. We put the goats and the new sheep in the barn last night. It was easier than I thought it would be. I was expecting a rodeo, but they all went to their rooms like good kids! Enjoy your November 29th weather!!!
Hi Marc when you are busy second guessing yourself about Teddy, remember how much time, effort, and money you invested in Dave and you didn't even own him. You even built a stable for the horse. So enjoy your new life with a pet. You and Teddy are a perfect pair.
Hi Marc. I think that crack by the Down pipe needs filling as well before you get water ingress in your house. It was lovely to see your kitten Teddy supervising your work 😂. 🤩
I thought about that crack down the wall too. Needs filling.
Is your " buyer's remorse" easing up?
Our kitten spends the night in a dog crate , she has a fluffy cat igloo a dish of and some biscuits. This has been since 6 weeks old and knows the bedtime routine. No disturbance at night and no damage to anything. As she gets bigger and calmer she can join the other cats in the utility room and outside.😎👩🌾
Wonderful seeing you and kitten God bless always Thank you very much. Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸
Kittens have two speeds on and off❤❤
A work of art! Well done with taming the water situation. Hopefully the pear crumble won’t make you too sick. What lovely neighbours you have.
a beautiful estate!
Take a breath. Teddy will calm down. Please have patience.
Hi Marc, it's probably a combination of couple of things, you maybe under the weather, as you know this seems to come and go,and having Teddy just as you're coming down with something ,is just bad timing. Kittens are hard work are puppies, puppies I think more so at least Teddy was litter trained. But he will soon be able to go outside, then you can get on with the garden ,he'll be more content of a night and into a routine, it's early days. As for those that left , no worries as you say you gained others, and I'm sure later down the road the benefit of having Teddy for company etc will be worth it. Also I find this time of the year hard to get going, getting used to the sudden cold weather and short days, I also loose incentive, I have lots to do,but unless it has to be done it gets put on the back burner, which I also hate ,I really get annoyed with myself if I don't do at least one good job a day onto of normal things, so don't beat yourself up. Look after yourself take care.❤
Love is not always what you feel, it can also be what you do. Mark, you have already shown an act of love for Teddy without even realising it. Now is his time to do the same for you given a chance. ❤
You need to get another kitten to keep him company; then they play together and eventually you will get more time to yourself.....🤣🤣🤣🤣😘
Kittens take up a lot of time to begin with, but after a few months he will calm down, especially when he is allowed out and roams around and gets tired. My cat (found in one of my buildings in France) a siamese, during the summer months is a busy cat, and takes her job (killing mice etc.,) extremely seriously. During the winter (now three year old) likes to play a bit more, as she stays in more. I think when you let your kitten out a bit, when you are ready later one, he will get tired and sleep a lot when he comes inside. :) Enjoy,
ADD people see life as tasks for what others classify as routines. Loving something is a thing as well. It can go on the list. Cats are nocturnal. He will settle down. He also needs more toys. You can get so many free toys he will enjoy - any string, tied up paper, old carpet, and little balls to chase. We got ours by default over the summer in the middle of a paint repair job. It wasn't ideal, but the mind is kind, and unpleasantness is easily forgotten. Perhaps a rubber mat, a new routine, and a think will do you good. How very frustrating at 52 to be reminded that rarely do we control our own lives. At 60 just this week, I can say thank goodness. My life is so much more than I could have imagined for myself. A little love from the states that you put "have faith" on your list and that in due course all will be well.
Great job and you make it look so easy .
Teddy is in the baby stage things will settle. When we got puppy it was hard work , thought it would be lovely to get him a lovely wicker basket but he ended chewing it bits, 😂😂😂. As he got older he became a bit of an escapee !!! 😡. He got picked up by the police a couple of times luckily he had a tattoo 😜😜, but nowadays would be easier with a tracking device. Many adventures but would not have it any other way. As many parents know ..what was bought because of the children ends up living with you …when they have all left home. Cats are good for calming you down, hence Cat Cafes in Japan but you’ll have to wait a bit 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😘
Maybe re home him if you feel you can’t 100% meet his needs, kittens naturally demanding and take work but will grow into someone’s favourite buddy in time…
He will calm down. He’s still a baby at the moment. Are you planning on letting him outside? If so this will calm him down a lot. He will still have a few mad moments.
You had no trouble building a stable, build a cat cage outside in a sheltered place, and put him out there with shelter of course, and climbing scratch pole, for a few hours every day until you feel able to let him outside unsupervised.
Marc, breathe. Get some cranberry juice to flush your kidneys and drink more water. You sound dehydrated. I developed kidney stones due to chemo. Take some B12 it improves your mood. Its horrible this time of year! Milk is your source of protein. You need protein. Teddy is part Siamese. Smart as whips! If you can get a kennel cage a long one put newspaper/ blanket litter box, toys for time out. Put food or water if longer time. He is a baby don't give him full reign of the house. Establish boundaries, you can do it! When you can get him a higher litter box. People enjoy cat videos because they do, too old to have pets, not allowed where they live, lack funds. Hey, the videos would pay for his care! You and Teddy were pretty endearing together! If you can't handle it find him a home! Please, take care of yourself. Not trying to be know it all here. You do what is best for you and Teddy.
Look at it another way. When was the last time you’ve laughed so much and had so much fun?
I like the kitten. I’ll keep watching. You’ll look back and be glad you persevered. He’ll settle in. Life is all new, everything is a curiosity to be investigated. Look through his eyes and you’ll have a whole different understanding. Even with young children, it helps to see the world from their height and interpretations. It’s a different perspective. You’ll muster through and will be happy you did. Hang in there Mark.
Would another kitten friend or dog to play with help his energy level
I hope you feel better soon . Please keep the kitten it’s most probably a blip . Myself I’d go and make a cup of tea and a water bottle and give Teddy a cuddle for me the best medicine.I didn’t like seeing you like this Marc get better soon .❤
