Leica expert shares secrets on how to buy vintage lenses
This memory will certainly remain forever. Congratulations
first
In my opinion, based on these photos, the E58 coupled with Monochrome stands out in terms of special 3D feel and smooth tones. Contrast is perfect.
Yes, there’s something special about the transitional areas and grey tones that is very soothing to the eye 😀
Great! Do you have a link for the adapters?
Wow ! Tahusa :)
Your Leica obsession seems to be getting worse, you’re really diving deep into the rabbit hole now. 😂
Yup…. I justify it with this channel :/
@@threeamigoshkif you ever come to Vancouver, let's hang out. I have the same Leica sickness.
@Kohai82 For sure - will organise a local therapy session 😉
Nice vídeo and photos!
@L.E.Santo02 thank you !
Can't wait for our next walk! Lovely video :)
I followed the instructions in the manual and made no progress. Followed this video and it worked. They key thing seems to be getting the button to depress sufficiently, which doesn't work with a simple press. Digging your nail into the space in front of the button seems to be the way to get the button to depress.
That's the great thing about M bodies: they're near identical from a functional standpoint, but their feature sets vary slightly. So your skills as a rangefinder shooter continuously evolve with experience and the body can swap out for your particular needs at any point. Personally, I need great color and long battery life. I don't need high resolution, any sort of matrix metering, nor Sony-like ISO performance. So the M240 is my jam. M9 shooters get CCD. M10 shooters get ISO and App support. Etc, etc. Perfect set up, imo.
Thank you for the upload. I have the M10M. The results are always fascinating and thinking in black and white is not that difficult. I try to look for shadows, contrast and, sometimes, extreme exposure differences.
Exactly! And that's what I love about monochrome, it pushes you to think differently about composition.
I keep lusting after this camera. As I also have the M11 I am not sure yet whether I can justify getting the Monochrom as well as I also like working in colour. Whereas I find that a lot of my older photographic influences used to work in Black and White. Where I suspect if they were working now they would be colour photographers. So still undecided. Maybe I need to try it out and see if I can commit to it fullly.
Exactly my dilemma despite owning another Leica colour camera as well…. End up using the monochrom 70% of the time because its pictures are just so much more unique!
@@threeamigoshk thing is I already own the M11 and the MA which I use with Ilford Delta 400 or Kodak Tri-X so essentially I already have a B&W camera even if it is not digital. As I do like the look and feel of my film results. With the M11M I am so interested in how it would work for high ISO when working in low light which is one thing that I do get form all the videos that I have seen so far on the Leica M11M.
@@michaelwplant :) Im also in this dilemma, I really love black and white but also have the M11 and hopefully if things go well I might trade up my motorcycle for an m6 camera. With that said, I think if you shoot most film and can develop these photo then the M11 is just fine. As for me, I really don't know what my journey for 2025. I m in the same both as Stanton on the M11M, maybe the m6 will be for some BW and mostly color since I really love the film color and as you know it is so hard to mimic the film look. Unless you take the same photo using both film and digital and do side by side and make adjust on the digital file and even that will might get you to 90%. Difficult decision,0,.0
@@dnguyen536 I now know the other Leica film camera I would get a Leica M6 TTL 0.85 ideally a Millenium edition as I like the winder and film rewind of the Leica MA and this camera has both of those things. I do love the look of the images at High ISO that people get from the Leica M11 Monochrom. It would allow me to work in really low light and at night in a way that practically no other camera would let me and this is appealing. I do though still use film and I like the aesthetic of film but only Black and White. For me colour is digital and I know I can get better colour images with my M11 and for that matter my Nikon Z8 than I can get from any colour film.
That looks self-explanatory lol
Excellent simplistic overview of the range and seems fair to the individual models
We need parts 2 and 3!
OMG the way he show us how the shutter sound is R they really what I'm thinking?

Thanks for the test. I have this camera and plaing around with different formats
Thanks man, work like magic
My pleasure!
I have never had a problem with my M8. I have a Summicron f =5cm 1:2 50mm as my main lens.
82 still shoot with my M8, buying an M240 March 2025.
got left way behind and spin it into a advantage and then charge a lot of money for it. roll eye. lets get go back to stone age and call it peak living style.
How are they left behind? They've always done what they do and their sales are going up every year. They constant innovate- first full frame mirrorless camera, for instance. Sour grapes projecting personal preference as fact. Must be the internet.
Is a m12 coming out in 2025
It’s in the rumours !
Welcome back ! My first Leica was the M240. I prefer the colours, compared with the M10. My favourite digital Leica is the M10M. My favourite film Leica is the M3, followed closely by the M2 and M4, and the Model 2.
The M10M is a great camera! I really liked the M10 but wasn't sure about the M11 at first.
A suggestion for you is to try the Summicron Rigid. A vintage lens with plenty of detail...!
My main camera for many years was a Nikon F2. Never thought about shooting digital because of the LCD screen Then came the Leica MD 262 and it all changed. Also I`m fortunate to be a one Leica camera owner, and when I get G.A.S. all I do is take Tums...!
A digital camera was never a consideration to own because I never liked the LCD screens. That was until the MD 262. The MD 262 is the best camera for me. All my life I shot film and when the screen less MD 262 was acquired a little longer than a year ago made it my only camera leaving film...!
Glad you like the Rigid Summicron. It`s the only lens that I use for the MD 262. It has the "Leica Look", images show much detail without the aggressive sharpness...!
Long awaited R5 Mark II cage by Falcam / Ukanzi is finally here!! ua-cam.com/video/OA8voYB8H98/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared I’ve been holding off on smallrig, Tilta and others because I’m deep into Falcam system with grips and tripods etc. so glad they got this finally for my main camera.
thank you for letting me know! Will try to get my hands on one! the removable side panel is great as I am getting a bit annoyed with the fixed one in my current mamba. I also ordered a couple falcam quick release ( moving away from peak design one)
@ I got 3 different handles and utilize the F38 for virtually everything. I noticed that was a great improvement as well as having the tightening tool to fit inside the cage; it’s a great improvement over the R5 cage. I haven’t seen any links open for it, but I imagine that is coming very soon now that this video is out.
After 4 other videos I finally found the right one, thank you!
my pleasure! I am glad we could help!
I didn’t have to look at all. All I have to do is get on UA-cam and youtube suggested this to me.
Glad it helped!

No one bothers to read anymore. people struggling and complaining when the steps are given very early in the PDF.
That was so helpful, thanks guys. 🤘📷🤘 One thing: In the comparison to film I would think that the „deeper“ colours come from the film - not the lens. What do you think?
thats very good observation it could very well be!
I also got Leica Gas and right now I am obsessing about whether I want a Leica M11M to go with my MA and M11. So for me it would only be a max of three cameras, however I do like the idea of a M6 TTL with a 0.85 viewfinder but then I think an M11M would be more useful for actually making images.
Please point out one of the great classical photographers who considered bokeh an important facet of his pictures.
What is that black leather case? It looks great
Ulanzi Falcam cage will be faaar better when it finally releases. They have assured me it’s coming; I’ve been patiently waiting.
Thats great! Any ETA when it might show up? i would be keen on trying it as I use quite a lot of acessorit from Ulanzi and they are always reasonably priced!
@ I have been in constant communication with their engineer speaking through WhatsApp and he has said soon. He has strung me about 3 weeks now, but has said that Falcam is a smaller company and has been occupied with their recent holiday and some kind of expo that just ended; which is why they have had a delay. Important thing is emphatically he says they are making them and it is happening. I offered them some design queues, requesting a grip option so that instead of having a 2nd cage option you can unscrew 4-6 screws and add the larger grip plate to accommodate a battery grip if need be. Time will tell if they implement that, but I am confident they should be dropping it soon. He said keep an eye out on Amazon 1st.
@@threeamigoshk I just got an update from someone there that said they are in the "final materials stage" and should begin production within this next week or so. It definitely feels like we should be seeing actual product within the next 1-2 weeks. He said look for Ulanzi, Amazon and Aliexpress first. B&H and others to follow soon after. The torture is killing me though, because I have a full system that I used on R5 and then R6 Mark II that I have been unable to use on my R5 Mark II. The anticipation is killing me.
Want clinical portraits ? 😢
How did you find Canon's customer service? I had a Fuji XH2S and I absolutely HATED dealing with them.
It was great i must say. The odds of them fixing it was very low but I still took it to them. The lady looker a bit shocked but after going inside and checking with her colleague she took it in and said they will see if it can be repaired if it can they will send a quote. few days later I got a quote for it :) and it got fixed within 14 days
Frankly chaps I see a problem with your comparison. At the 11:00 mark you are comparing the rendering on the M7 camera close up. The file states for the APO it's f3.4 and for the lux it's at f1.7. 😮 This is hardly fair at all. It wd have been better to have both of them at F2. Or am I missing something??
This is the way.
There is nice article on the web where gentlemen basically proves that chasing the old is just pointless with regard to colors. Yet it is so tempting 🙂
I'm confused basically I have plan of getting R6 mark 2 just 4 months used with RF 24-105 4L and RF 100 2.8 + 256 GB card 300MB/s In 3465 USD. On the other hand R5mark2 is 4265 USD. I also don't have any lens. There are 2 options first is buy the 2 lens with R62 or 2nd option is R52 with Rf50 1.8... later on I'll upgrade my lens 24-105.. is it worth to sacrifice more money. I want 4,5 years future safe. If you're in my place what you'll do?? Is it good offer or suggest me any other option!! I don't have any gear now .. I used to have 5dmark3 in 2016... But I changed my field as currently working in the restaurant business industry. I want to target small restaurants and small businesses for social media and products photography, as I have planned to give free 30 sec, 1 min reels for Snapchat, tiktok and Instagram. Just to build my portfolio on Instagram and other platforms. Plus I'll do street photography as I'm living an expat in Saudi Arabia. I belong to Pakistan.
I was one of those people who thought that the white rectangle was a flash. Thanks for the video!
Hi mate, Thank you for a nice presentation on M 9 cameras. I have just started my photography hobby and bought a M 11 P and enjoying it. As I also love B&W photography, was wondering which model to go with. Had a look at some of reviews of M type 246, M10M and M11M. After watching 2 of your videos I am conviced that I might go for M9M (refurbished) as a B&W substitute for my travel photography. Cheers
I just pushed down with one thumb and slide with the other
Yeah i tried but in my case doesnt move a bit almost like the silicone friction to the body is holding it , or my thumb is too big to be precise 😂
So you have nothing to gripe about!
😂 My first thought on seeing this was to do that but….
But… what happened haha?
