    It may have been mentioned on here but the reason that cylinder bolt stripped was because there are 2 different cylinder bolt lengths. The short one was installed in the spot where the long should have been. The 2 long bolts are supposed to be on the timing chain side, the short bolts go on the right side.

    Good video, will help me in the future if I ever need to rebuild my CII pump on my '82 down the road. I dont want to get replacement cause last CII replacement I got for my 78' Cougar resulted in more effort for steering. I know the pump isnt putting out the right amount of pressure and I really dont have a way of checking pressure so I can adjust the pressure valve to reach OE spec for that car. At least in my truck I know it is fine even with my 31x10.50-15 KO2s and rather stick with it.

    • @Hunters_Mechanics
      @Hunters_Mechanics Місяць тому

      @Milner62 It's very hard to tell what made the difference but I'd say the remanufactured steering gear resulted in mine being much easier for steering. It's damn near tractor steering after the pump rebuild and the reman steering gear lol

    • @Milner62
      @Milner62 20 днів тому

      Draw back of having my truck sit since 2018 when I started sourcing parts for my engine build, I forgot I was adding fluid about every week or just over every week. I don't think it's my gear box as the pitman arm is just dry dusty road grime on it but my PS pump, my mechanical fuel pump, and my entire crossmember and passenger side frame is caked in thick black grime which can only be from a leaking PS pump. So, I have a Edelmann reseal kit for the pump and gear box on order (was cheaper buying both kits from rock auto at under $40 than buying the gearbox reseal kit through amazon at $45). I did look through my parts and illustration guide, I found I can get a NOS spring pressure plate and rotor assembly for the CII pump, I found one listing two NOS rotor assemblies for $60 but I found the replacement part number where it comes with the rotor and the block plate behind it and found it NOS for under $20. So now the big thing for me is do I just simply reseal the kit or do I replace the spring pressure plate and the rotor assembly or just do a seal job and let it ride. I also looked at the flow control valves, Ford only had one part number 1980 - 1988 for F100/350 trucks with the CII pump. Only part number change I saw for the flow control valve is when it came to the Saginaw pump. So, there might be no difference there but I do know with the GM Saginaw pumps they sell pressure calibration kits that tells you which spacers to use to change the pressure output had to do that on a few we did hydraboost conversions on at work so I figured the CII would have that same style of pressure calibration since the flow control valve looks identical. Either way I was only looking at the parts book because I was talking with one guy that wanted to rebuild his CII pump but use the translucent white reservoir that allows you to see your fluid level somewhat. I was curious about it and found it but it's the replacement for the correct reservoir for my truck that came out in 1985 to replace the black housing that is correct for my truck. So, I am just going to clean up what I have, spray the exterior aluminum pump housing with some Eastwood cast aluminum paint so it matches my pump bracket I sprayed and then do a reseal job. Only other thing is do I switch from PS fluid to ATF, I know many run ATF in the CII pump over the dreaded Ford pump whine but I always ran PS fluid and never had a whine on my truck but with me pulling everything apart to reseal it I question if I could create a whine, with how my luck goes I wouldn't be surprised. On my Cougar how ever, I blame my gearbox for the stiffness in the steering, used to steer with one finger with power assist or your palm on the wheel now you cant do that it feels more sporty which I guess is fitting for the sporty XR7 mine is, but I do miss the easy steering it had. When I go to restore that car I might devise a way to put a high pressure gauge in line and see what the pump output is if its with in spec the I would blame the gearbox.

    question, after having it apart do you have an insight about what it is in these ford pump that can cause the horrific pump whine that these pump tend to have? from what i am seeing in your video i don't see any parts that can get damaged to cause the noise, except for seals, bearings, and valve cover baffle, everything is hardened steel, i'm just not seeing it. i know that when i replaced my present noisy pump with a new2 reman pump it was just as loud ad the original and no matter how much i re-flushed and re-bled the noise wouldn't quiet down, so i returned and put the old one back in after thoroughly bench flushing it with mineral spirits and fresh atf, any ideas????

    • @Hunters_Mechanics
      @Hunters_Mechanics 3 місяці тому

      @abruptlyblunt I did a lot of research on this before I did the video and all I came up with was "they all do it, even the car Ford-made power steering pumps" which is why any forum will talk about getting a Saginaw pump. Mine only squealed once I got it back together which came to be my belt, replaced the belt and haven't really had an issue, it's pretty quiet! Some other points that are of importance is making sure you are using the Ford Type F ATF because when I used Pestone's power steering fluid, it definitely got worse. People in forums also state the line that goes to the bottom of the pump must be air tight because if it sucks in ANY air there, it will whine like crazy. Lastly, it could just be debris either in the pump or the lines that get pushes through the slippers causing them to wear and 'whine.' I haven't done it yet but people have installed a line filter on the same bottom hose and have seen reduced noise results. Good luck!

    Your video helped me a lot with this engine but I am afraid you might have done mistake fitting tenioner before head cover. This engine has camshaft positioned by head cover and in this scenario, right side of camshaft could have been lifted during tenionser installing , so putting head cover may lead to overtensioning chain.
