I LOVE this method for DC! I always hated the gaps DC made. Thank you so much! This video was really easy to follow. I'm curious to know if doing one row of gapless DC is faster than doing 2 rows of SC? I may have to time it and try.

Thank you for making this simple enough I think I can do it. I have only read one pattern before and done a few video patterns so I am still a newbie but I think this was explained well enough that even me a lefty can follow it. I am not against the holey look of the regular stitches but this neat and tidy look is the reason I got into it along with how calming it has turned out to be. Thank you so much.

How do you keep the hook from catching on the last thread of loose yarn? I find that I have to keep the tension on loose yarn especially tight in order not to catch on the last thread on the yarn. But it happens a lot.

Thanks so much! I am a crocheter. I prefer to hold the working yarn in my left hand. (Feels very awkward to knit English style - little to no control). I wanted to knit using the same hand as I use with crochet. (Left). So happy to find that I wasn’t doing it wrong!

God bless you for making this video. I was trying to make a scarf to match the beanie that I just finished. I had to take it apart twice because the edges were crooked. I almost gave up and came across your video. I've been searching and yours is the one that helped me. The little tips of which way to turn your work is precious. It made such a big difference. Now I can finish the scarf to match the beanie. Thank you so much.

I am also a lifetime crocheter but do continental knitting. My style is different to any of yours as I don't stick my index finger out like you do. Mine is closer to the needle, slightly curved and relaxed. I knit the same way but purl the Russian way. So much more comfortable and easier.

I have been crocheting for about four years now- I’ve never heard tip before- about thinking "hook under" instead of "yarn over"- I tried it out today… WOW! amazing! I can’t believe how thinking slightly differently can make such a huge difference! Thank you thank you!

I have a pattern that I want to increase - when counting # of stitches required and I have a YO in the repeat do I count that? K7, * k2tog, yo, k9 * 7 times more. K2tog, yo, k7. That is first row - original cast on is 104sts. I thought I could just double that pattern by CO 208 sts - it didn't work how should I calculate?

You've given me a much-needed confidence boost to continue on with my new hobby and to try to relax and have some fun with it, thank you ever so much! <3

I didn't realise there are so big differences in continental knitting, the way of doing it! In Finland I had only ever seen the way we are taught and I was in my 30s when I first saw someone knitting with holding yarn in their right hand. Like we have the left index finger touching the knitting needle, not raised in any way. This probably explains why so many Americans also crochet with their index finger raised off from other fingers.

I would add that learning to minimize your movements is also essential. If you are noticing that your movements are making your shoulders or upper arms move, these large movements will slow you down (and often cause you pain in the long run). Watch her crochet at 10:30, most of the movement is in the hands and wrist. Your hook only needs to make small movements to make the stitch, so figure out how to do those movements without having to move your whole arm. It's like learning how to write. Preschoolers will often use their whole arm when writing, but eventually you are only using the smallest finger movements to get the same result.
