    I generally don't subscribe until I've seen a few videos from a channel, but I like the cut of your jib, guys! Subbed :) There's no way to really know it from the movie, but if Ron had jumped off the horse, it would have forfeited the game. I haven't followed much of Rupert Grint's career, but I do know he's devoting time to raising his kid, because Ron's a daddy now :D

    Many of the actors had impressive careers. Robbie Coltrine, among many other films was in two James Bond films, "GoldenEye" and "The World is not Enough". Richard Harris won an Academy Award for best actor in "Titanic" and appeared in two films which won the Academy Award for Best Picture: firstly as the gunfighter "English Bob" in the revisionist Western "Unforgiven" (1992); secondly as the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" (2000). Harris also made it to the number 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 with his recording of the Jimmy Webb song "MacArthur Park". Rupert Grint was a punk rocker in the movie "CBGB" which starred Alan Rickman. I could go on and on but I am too lazy.

    The trio & Draco all got 50 points taken from them because they left the castle after nightfall. Basically the same as if a muggle kid snuck out of the house after dark & went blocks away to a friend's house without parental permission. So they had to be taught that this was a big important rule, not a small rule. Despite still being on school grounds, they are 11 year olds running around unsupervised & it's possible an animal might come out of the woods or the kids might do something dangerous & there wouldn't be an adult to get them to the hospital wing, etc.

    The "restricted section" is only for older students who have been taught basics & supposedly also understand the seriousness of the danger of dark magic, extremely difficult higher level magic (dark or not), & magical creatures & plants which could be dangerous if handled wrong. The students do have to get permission from the librarian to read individual books in the restricted section, & as you can see if a student sneaks in there somehow & opens a book off the shelf without permission then the books themselves have a built in alarm. The magical chains also prevent a student removing a book to view/copy without supervision.

    Hagrid is only half human. His dad was a wizard but his mom was a giant. Not giant as in a human with a growth hormone malfunction. Giant as in the species. His mom abandoned her husband & son when Hagrid was a toddler, as he was a "runt" that wouldn't grow so she was ashamed. In HP world, giants are typically not bright, quite selfish (& some are outright mean, though not all). So...we are not really given any details into why a wizard would be attracted to a female giant or exactly how coitus & conception work in such a relationship. However in book 4 we meet another character that is half giant also, but she is too ashamed to admit it when Hagrid asks her about her own childhood after he talks about his own childhood with his dad. She just keeps insisting she's fully human but big. I guess she was afraid of discrimination based on the reputation of giants, & as headmistress of another magic school it's understandable. After all, the parents must trust her with their children's safety just as others trust Dumbledore with the safety of the kids at Hogwarts.

    • @joshandcasey
      @joshandcasey День тому

      See that makes more sense, I feel like I don’t remember them explaining he was half giant. He shouldn’t be allowed in the muggle world haha😂

    Alan Rickman also played the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. He was a great villain in that. He also played Colnel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility- a really heroic character. And in Love Actually he played a husband and father. If you haven’t seen those, they are worth watching (if you can stomach Kevin Costner’s bad British accent as Robin Hood). Great reaction! Enjoy the ride.😊

    The question is have you seen Team StarKids' musical trilogy that parodies the films and books? The three shows are more than just stage adaptations with comedic flair and great songs. They are . . . well, hard to put into words. Sure, subtitles help due to university stage mics that are not the best quality (and audience noise as well) and yes, there is strong language and "adult" content. However, if you are a fan of all things Harry Potter, you should see them at least once. It would be fun to grow your UA-cam audience and there are some cool surprises in the shows as well (including a cameo by one of the actual cast members from the movies). I hope you consider it.

    Nicholas Flamel was a real person. He lived during the Middle Ages in Paris. His house still stands and has become a restaurant. Because of the popularity of the books and movies, they have created a Harry Potter menu for children. I had lunch there during my last trip to Paris. As for Maggie Smith, she has won 2 Academy Awards and many accolades through a most distinguished career. I would highly recommend your reacting to a few of her movies. Maggie Smith had a long career before Harry Potter. Before HP she appeared in a TV version of David Copperfield with Daniel Radcliffe (he played Copperfield) and actually recommended him for Harry Potter. The casting of the kids was phenomenal. The publishers apparently thought Americans would find the word “philosopher” too highbrow and uninteresting for a story about magic for kids so they changed it to “sorcerer” for the U.S. edition.

      @@ezradanger I don’t know about the vast majority of the general public, but it definitely wouldn’t have mattered to me. I didn’t start reading them until they were already bestsellers and I didn’t hardly pay attention to the “and the ….” part of the title. For all I cared they could have been Harry Potter Book 1, Harry Potter Book 2, etc.

      @@joshandcaseyI don't think it probably mattered. But I do remember an entire generation of kids quitting rollerblading because of a gay joke. And philosophy really does sort of have a negative connotation in the US. People literally use things like "philosophy major" as an insult. So while I would like to think that it wouldn't have mattered, it's not beyond the scope that it could have.

    For Quidditch, the team with the most points at the end of the game wins. The game does not end until the Snitch is caught. The snitch gives 150 points. The team that catches the snitch is not necessarily going to be the winner, but are most of the time due to the huge award of points.

    The reason Vernon didn't want Harry to get his letter was because they knew about harry's parents being magic (ie. Strange and unusual) and they didn't want Harry to be the same and bring gossip about the family that might impact them negatively.

    In the books Hagrid was a little over 11 foot tall. Ron was also on the floor of the chessboard just like the other 2 and got smashed over the head by the queen knocking him out. Guess the movies thought people would assume that Ron getting off the horse chess piece would be considered an illegal move. Harry also didn't crumble Quirrell into dust and kill him. Quirrell died when Voldemort left his body that had been weakened by Voldemort's possession. Hagrid sent letters to all of the school friends of Harry's parents to get a bunch of pictures for him.

    I might be in the minority here, but I love this movie. Martin Landau's speech about what going to a movie theatre meant to earlier generations was wonderful. Peter's speech, when he stood up to the Senate Committee while old-fashioned and reminiscent of a Frank Capra film, was done very well.

    the dad pissed me off so much. all of the signs that esther was dangerous was literally right in front of him. even the nun who came over the house warned him that bad things always happen when esther is around and yet you still assume that she’s this perfect little angel? he kept riding for her when he barely even knew her. he refused to listen to anybody’s suspicions and he refused to take what anyone is saying into consideration. the sad thing is, he didn’t even realize the truth about esther until it was too late. his stupidity caused his downfall
