Nice, I want to play some Alan Holdsworth style Legato runs over that.
Do it!!!!! If you want me to send you the audio, just let me know!
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums For Sure
Cool. What's your email?
I’ve said before, I think, but your use and understanding of dynamics is insane. Super tasty!
true
Thanks so much! There's a lot of amazingly complex drumming out there but sometimes lots of it is kinda flat dynamically - I don't really play anything too complex but do try to make it sound dynamically as interesting as possible. Sort of like the opposite, haha. Glad it's working!
Yeah bitchin solo
👌
Thanks budster!!
Sick
Thanks a lot bud!!
how do you do that
Lead with your right. Cheers!!
Exactly. It was not intended, haha. Wanted to mute the cymbal on the left thinking it was the only one resonating so had to reach across to mute the right cymbal with my left hand. Thought it made a cool UA-cam thumbnail!
Ok
I love the off beat hihat touch at the start
Thanks a lot bud. Off beat pedal hihats really elevate things some times. This groove would sound quite square without it I reckon.
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums Shows that you actually prepare before hitting the rec button. Quite proud to see how far you've come since you started all this
Thanks so much for saying that! Really appreciate it. I'll be honest, sometimes I do just hit rec and see what happens! Today's for example - 20/05/24 - it'll be up later. Other times I will have an idea before I begin.
the old drum n bass vibes
Yeaaaah. Wanted to cut up the beats live, which is why it moves around time signatures a bit.
Great, groovy, and great some more!
Thanks bud! Also, your comment perfectly reflects the structure of the solo - "great (the bit on the left ride at the start), groovy (the bit on the right hand ride), and great some more (it goes back to the left ride to finish)!" - pretty darn cool!!
Dude!
Haha, thanks bud!!
Do you play with a group?
I have done in the past but the last few years I've been working on my own stuff (and doing the odd recording session for friends) - got an EP coming out soon!!
That's really cool I look forward to checking that out.
what hi hats are those?
Dream Bliss 14 inches. I've also got a really cheap, trashy crash cymbal underneath the bottom cymbal to give it extra "chunk"
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums I've been looking into hihat/stack mods and I haven't been able to find a good dry 14 inch crash or smaller, do you have a recommendation
It was a cymbal that came with a beginner kit of one of my students. When they upgraded their cymbals I asked if I could have their old ones. I've got a bunch of them in different sizes. Maybe have a look on second hand selling pages and buy the cheapest thinnest cymbals you can find.
It's like Simon says, and Simon says groove.
Simon knows what he's talking about....
Loved the whole thing! Awesome!
Thank you. And thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment too!!
Very nice ending fill
Thanks buddy. It's a herta!
Kicking ass and taking names! Killer!
You know it!!!!! Really went for it....
so good
Thanks bud. I really gave this one some oomph. It's been a looooon week haha.
Sweet
Thanks!!!!!!!
oooohhh this has to be one of my favorites so far!
Absalutely, he killed this one!
thank you!! Glad you liked it bud! Thanks for taking the time to let me know too.
Thanks diso. Had to get the heavy black sticks out for this one - the groove needed all the weight and power it could get!!!
Dang so groovy
Thanks buddy. Adding an off-beat pedal hihat to anything will make it groove ten times more :)

Super
Thanks a lot buddddddy!
good build up
Thanks a lot buddy - I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
revisiting this one cos i know it slaps
Thanks man. This feels like so so so so so so long ago. Wait, I've been doing this for nearly half a year?! How did that happen?!
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums dude i've had to take a break from uploading cos i'm a bit burned out - since i started in whenever it was (late Jan '24, early Feb??), I've chucked 228 songs up. I'm done for now. Hopefully will get my all-acoustic album Noonday Lullabies up next month, and this will prime the pump and see me through to autumn with another 50-100 added. But yeah, it's gone quickly, I totally agree. Do you think this daily adding helps to make you feel - and to be - more productive in a more general sense? I'm tempted to say it does, for me. And getting the odd like hither and yon never hurts - especially when you've been toiling away in obscurity at the lo-fi coalface for trillions of millennia.
228 songs? You're one prolific musician. I've loved every one I've watched as well. Looking forward to what comes next... Do you work full-times as well?? Are you still writing new music? It's made me a better improviser definitely. My musical brain is working much quicker and more fluidly now (most days). I guess it comes from committing to the note, something I realise now was always kinda half arsed in my playing/practice as there was no risk. Now, because I'm doing a recorded solo every day, that people will watch, I have to play with conviction and intent. And that's pushed me onwards. Before now, there were one or two videos of my drumming "out there" - now there are more than a hundred in only 5 months. Those numbers don't lie - the productivity has soared. However, only in this one aspect. I also write music and my first EP will be out soon (piano and drum based minimal/neo-classical/groove stuff) and the planning and work for the release has definitely fallen by the wayside and slowed that whole thing up. I also wanted to finish compositions for the next EP and that hasn't even started happening. So in that sense, I've become a lot less productive. So productive in some ways, but not others. Swings and roundabouts.
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums Interesting, insightful, and food for thought. I'm looking forward to hearing the EP. Get 'er done. As for my own output, i'm not prolific - I just have a backlog stretching back to the early '00s. I have put off and put off getting it onto bandcamp and youtube because i hate the very final stages of such processes. They're often the least creative, the least spontaneous and the least enjoyable. I am a terrible dotter of "I"s and crosser of "T"s.
Could not agree with that more bud. Although it is quite nice getting visuals together, but all the PPI/PRS/© stuff is very dull. So, has the Full Crumb stuff never been released before??
taming young rack thomas there with the old half tea-towel damping trick - sometimes the old ways are the best ways
Hahaha. Yeaaaah. It also shifts the pitch of the drum up a bit which is nice. And makes me a look cool (the main reason).
Very musical- that first section apmost immediately suggested a melody that started playing in my head
Love that!! Melody is often overlooked by drummers. Check out Jeff Hamilton. He's the master of it...
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums Cheers, I will!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks a lot, man! I wasn't so sure about this one.... Glad you dig it though!! Makes me feel better :)
Snares crispppp
Thanks buuuuuudy!
Working my flam taps just now aswell actually . Sounding good buddy
Thanks a lot bud!! Have you tried Gaddiments? There's some lovely flam-tap exercises in there...
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums no I’m only just hearing of it now … I’m guessing its one of Steve Gadd’s instructional numbers tho
It is indeed!! It's beautiful to read too, great looking scores.
the open high hat sound so damn nice it got me commenting
That's why I got them, I knew one day it would lead to this comment. Joking aside, thanks for the comment bud, really appreciate it.
keep it up! ... screwed my time keeping for sure
Thanks for the support brother! Well, that's probably my fault not yours. Sometimes I do some very weird things (change tempo randomly, try to metrically modulate (but get it wrong), drop beats out, add beats in, or just play wrong, haha)
A-freaking-mazing!!!
thank you thank you thank you!!!
love the buzz on your 1hand drop roll thingies
Thanks man! I worked on them a lot after watching this... ua-cam.com/video/pcZamTg6NCk/v-deo.html Such a brilliant brilliant brilliant channel and drummer. So funny but there's also some deep knowledge being shared throughout the whole series. Check it out!
I feel like this could be a great song👽
Yeaaaah! I'm glad you say that - thanks. I try to make each one play like a full composition. Sometimes it works, sometimes not haha.
@@GeorgeHuttonDrums thats awesome, i think its a cool aproach for a drum solo!
Thanks bud! Work in progress but aren't we all!
Awesome
Thanks bud! I really do appreciate all your comments, man. Please, keep em coming!
lovin the strong pulse in this one - the abstract ones are interesting, for sure - but the ones that have more discernible structure always thrill me better
Thanks bud. Glad you dig it. I think I prefer the pulse-orientated ones too. Although dropping the beat and just expressing is too damn liberating. Sozza!!
if you ask me: your neighbours should be happy!
Haha!! I had a neighbour ask my partner over the garden fence "what does George do for a living!?" She said "he's a drummer" and he said " Ah, that makes sense!"
😂
It‘s great to see and hear you play. Very inspiring. I wish I was as talented as you are! Very own style!!!
That's very kind to say - thank you. You most definitely can be as talented as I am. There was a point in my life where I hadn't even picked up some sticks. You're probably further along than you think. I take it you're a drummer?
Drumming is just a hobby for me. So I can’t spent too much time on it. I wonder if I could get faster better if I had more talent or if everybody just has to practice, practice, practice… to be a “master”.
Keep the focus on the enjoyment - that should be your main driver. But practice, practice, practice only works if you're practicing the right things. Have you tried getting some lessons?
I got lessons when I was a child. Bevor Corona I wanted to start again with a teacher but then did it with books and you tube. And I’m too often lost… too much different things I’d like to learn. But it’s going forward… slowly. A teacher could help me staying focused, Good idea!
phat as per usual
Thanks a lot - I'm trying to not lose weight - need to be as phat as possible.
Way to ring that bell brother! Another great, different, use of equipment.
Thanks a lot bro! It really piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings. I enjoyed hitting it, playing a bit then choking the cymbal to let the ping reappear. Hence why I did it a lot haha.
Here everyday brother
Thank you for joining me on this mad, noisy journey. It means a lot. I really appreciate the support!!
Yes
Thanks bro!!!
First one))
Appreciate the comment buddy!!!
Sweet!
Thanks bud!
1.) amazing! 2.) I felt like there was room to really let it rip after you built it up, so while it was great, it felt anticlimactic and left a lot to be desired. And I say that kindly haha. Let those chops flow! 😎
Actually, just went and watched some of your other videos. It appears you're going for more of like an intentionally creative vibe rather than a mindless speed run, in which case, I commend you! 😅
Lastly, if you're interested, I'm kind of just bingeing drum videos right now, and this one of the best drum videos I've come across in a while. Enjoy 😎ua-cam.com/video/shfXvPCqYyw/v-deo.html
Thanks buddy! I always appreciate feedback and comments of any kind - positive and constructive. But you've gone above and beyond - thank you! Yeah, the intent of the project means I have to be more considered. If I always let the chops flow then it would get boring. So, sometimes they come out, other times I go down a different route. It's kinda like each one is a track on an album (a very long and drum heavy album, haha) where I try to tell a different story. It's really hard. And REALLY hard not to just go for it every time, it's a drummer reflex to play faster and louder. But bit by bit I'm getting there. It's a journey, thank you for joining me! Also, thanks for the recommendation! That video was insane. Matt Garska's control of subdivisions is so well developed and impressive. The way he follows the synth part and it sounds like the tempo is speeding up and slowing down. Wow. And that guitar player absolutely rocks! A recommendation for you --> ua-cam.com/video/5ZKpAPpHm2Q/v-deo.html
Like 100%
I like your comment 1000% - you win! Thanks for the support bud.
Awsome
Thanks budster!
that snare has a great crisp sound. enjoyed the feel
Thanks a lot, bud. I appreciate you taking the time to comment - thanks. The snare sounds pretty cool, tuned up tight then dampened pretty heavy to keep it dry. Helps it sound crispy!!
Yeah man keep up
Thanks bud, will do - I really appreciate the support and encouragement!
🤙
Thanks man!
