The most challenging day of riding I've ever done! (Rally at the Rock Day 3)
Hey guys this is day 3 of Rally at the Rock! Today's track is called chimney rock loop i believe. It goes to Turner Bend store with food, drinks, and gas. We had some very intense down hills and hill climbs that 1 hill we had to tow the bikes the rest of the way up the hill. This day made me realize how poor my cardio is compared to my strength... I've been implementing more cardio here lately see if it pays off! Some parts of this track made me feel like I needed a competition ready hard enduro bike LOL but really put the CRF300L rally to it's limits. This track is definitely a small bike track. I believe we made it harder with the wrong turns we made but excited to get back out there in the fall!
My Bikes:
2022 CRF300L Rally: Rally Raid level 2 suspension, 550 performance ecu, intake tube mods, foam filter, and exhaust
2022 CRF450RL: Bone stock... For now...
2021 Tenere 700: upgraded springs, intake mods, foam filter, full(catless) exhaust, ECU tune, Outback Motortek crash bars, AXP skid plate.

Taking the long way to get burgers in Oark! (Rally at the Rock Day 2)
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Місяць тому
On day 2, we headed from camp to Oark to get some burgers and pies from the general store then took a separate route back. About 100 miles of off roading in rocky, muddy, challenging terrain. A few falls from some people and then 2 flat tires from Tony made an eventful rainy day! Day 3 is even more challenging. A bummer the spill I took tweaked the water pump cover and had a trickle of a leak. ...

In this video, I go over what modifications I did to my Honda CRF300L Rally. From intake to exhaust I upgraded to a foam air filter with a modified airbox lid, removed the airbox to put the cbr300 intake throttle body snorkel, put a MotoX full exhaust, and then had a new ECU from 550 performance with the stage 1 87 tune. There's a noticeable difference in power and where it picks up now and how...

Here's part 3 of the 200 mile rally. All stock crf300L rally. We were previously on Old Ore road and then got on river road and stay there till we get to the other side of the park. Following the route, we didn't do Glenn Springs or Black Gap. Hindsight we should've done it but I didn't know the trails good enough to know that it wasn't a huge detour.

      My 2 recent videos of using it in Arkansas! But yea I couldn’t find really any good videos of people testing suspension and got mixed reviews when they mentioned the change in seat height. My true inseam I believe measuring to my ankle bone is 30ish? 5’9. I could shave the seat if I wanted a tad more foot on the ground but didn’t find it necessary. Just got to be ready to commit to choosing a side to step down on when in tricky situations

      It was my first time down there so wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely should use lighter bikes for the first time but I THINK i could handle the t7 there but don't think i could do a all day ride with it in those conditions. Maybe slower pace would be doable on the T7 also. 300 was great besides just bottoming out the soft suspension a lot and no real dampening. So old ore road beat me to death. Next time I'll probably bring the 450rl either with a bigger tank or my fuel bag. Just need to upgrade suspension on 300 so it's more enjoyable!

      It was loads of fun! I'm glad I didn't bring the T7 the first time. Old Ore road was a beating with the stock suspension on the 300L and Black Gap would be very sketchy on the cliff edge on the ascent(headed north). Next time I may bring the 450 and the tenere. For sure need to plan some trips like that and have a few of us go.

    Sounds like you made a good purchase and I hope you enjoy the bike. I bought a used CRF450RL, too, a 2021 model with 614 miles on it. Got a great price on it, and I've put on an additional 1,200 miles on the odometer since I've owned it (bike now has 1,800 miles on it). I like the bike for its power and torque, great stability over rough ground, and excellent suspension. Off road, it's in its element when in 3rd gear or higher and is capable of covering ground quickly. Tight, 1st gear trails make the bike feel big and cumbersome in comparison, but it can be done if you insist on it. All-in-all, a great bike for dual-purpose riding. Mods I've done are: *Vortex ECU. Cures the bike of stalling/flameouts and rids the snatchy on/off throttle response. Well worth it. *FMF Megabomb head pipe and Q4 muffler. Worth it for less weight, pleasant tone (although not loud), and since there is no cat, less heat radiated off the muffler. Also well worth it. *Suspension springs suited for my weight. Another well-worth-it modification. *Bona fide knobby tires for traction while off-road. Definitely well worth it. *One-tooth-larger rear sprocket for slightly lower gearing on the trails. This is dependent on where you ride, so it's up to you to decide. *Smog equipment removed. Less clutter and allows easier access to rear shock preload adjuster. *Installed 2021 CRF450R throttle cables. This was very much worth it, and I think as much as the Vortex ECU. Why? The stock throttle cables are longer because they're routed alongside the headlight and then route back to the throttle body in a big arc. This makes throttle grip free play vary greatly as you turn the handlebar from left to right. So much so, if you adjust the free play for the minimum as I like it, all of the slack will disappear when you turn the handlebar and making for a clumsy throttle feel, not to mention s sticky throttle. The 2021 CRF450R throttle cables are much shorter, do not route up along the headlight but simply from the throttle grip, to behind the handlebar, to above the radiator, then back to the throttle body. The result is the throttle cable slack is very consistent during turning the handlebar and allows minimum cable slack to be used, resulting in precise throttle feel. It may seem like an insignificant thing to talk about, but the difference is amazing because lots of throttle grip free play makes things imprecise. Currently since it's winter, the bike is getting a suspension fluid change and chassis bearing lubrication. Awaiting the arrival of fine springtime weather.🙂

    the lower crash bars have saved my lower plastics. the hand guards that bolt to the triple tree, and not back to the handle bars, act as crash protection for the majority of the upper portion of the bike. ive dropped mine 4 times so far and there has been no damage.

    • @Jeredsmith
      @Jeredsmith 5 місяців тому

      Honestly with how messed up fairings are from previous owner i'm just going to rock no crash guards. If i replace fairings i'll get some type of crash protection. I just mounted the cheap knock off handguards and honestly was the easiest handguards i've installed compared to barkbusters on my tenere 700 and the old cb500x. They'll serve they're purpose lol

      @@Jeredsmith gotcha. I just like to let people know about the triple tree hand guard mounts, because some people are not familiar with them. It seems that most people install the traditional mounts which cause the hand guards to rotate on the handlebars when you crash.

    Ktech rear shock, the lowered version is $545US. what does the Rally Raid rear shock cost?

    • @Jeredsmith
      @Jeredsmith 5 місяців тому

      Rally raid level 1 rear shock is $575 and you can get a hydraulic preload adjustor for extra. I'll probably do that because it's super nice to be able to dial in more preload or take it away in seconds. Had it on my old cb500x

    • @airadaimagery692
      @airadaimagery692 5 місяців тому

      @@Jeredsmith that’s a fair price. Is the level 1 rear shock shorter than the stock shock? The Ktech lowered version shock is 1 inch shorter than stock. The hydraulic preload adjustment sure is nice. I’m sure it’s a lot more expensive though?

    • @Jeredsmith
      @Jeredsmith 5 місяців тому

      I can't confirm that i'd have to look at their website but level 1 keeps the stock height of the bike has if you have it off the kick stand. so when you get on the sag goes correct amount then you have a enough spring and dampening to not go straight through the stroke.

    That sounds like 3000rpm when you said it was 60. Also the counter sprocket (1 tooth larger) will gear it up or slower rpm- opposite of rear sprocket affect. It will be the same as 1.5 tooth less (rear) sprocket.

      at 60mph, it's 6000 rpm on stock gearing. It's 1000rpm for every 10mph according to gearing commander. The limiter is 9000 in 6th which is 90mph. You can remove this by bypassing the clutch switch. With stock power output you could do 14 on the counter shaft. I went 14/50 on mine but it also has the cam swapped out and another ~10/12hp more on output. If you commute more than slow trail ride, you'll gain a bit of MPG with the taller gearing.

    I used to have an XL250, and an XL500 (not at the same time). I remember the 500's weight and bulk, wasn't worth the small amount of extra power. Like boat-cars, there still is no ideal dual-sport. However, Honda is extremely reliable. Now that I'm older, I prefer the CB500x for mostly street riding,

      I traded my 2016 CB500X with level 2 rally raid to get my tenere 700. I miss it which partly is why I also got a crf300l rally now along the 450rl. It reminds me of the 500 but with less weight and of course less power but it’s going to be a little better off road situations with its weight. I’d definitely look at another cb500x ‘23 and newer with all the stock improvements

    • @Jeredsmith
      @Jeredsmith 5 місяців тому

      For sure man I’m comparing it to my tenere 700 I’ve been riding for the last year. The crf450rl gets to 60-70mph real quick but then you’re up in the revs on the highway going 70mph. Kind of pointing out the flaws in it because I do see a lot of people buy the 450 to ride where I ride my T7 and then end up selling it. It’s how I got my bikes for cheap 🤣
