Well I’m in week 5 now post surgery there’s no end to the swelling in foot and leg in spite of icing and leg elevation. I’m told swelling can last 6-12 months! How can there be full weight bearing if your foot is swollen?

I just tore my bicep tendon Christmas Day. Proximal tear( shoulder area). Took me a week to see my doctor since they were out for vacation. I was doing research on this and just happen to run across an article that said the bicep needs to be repaired within 3 to 4 weeks or it will shorten and fray and make it almost impossible to reattach. It said some surgeons suggested to patients that aren’t very active to just let it be. Your body will eventually adjust. But if you are active you need to get it fixed. I just left my doctor for a referral and now waiting for phone calls for MRI and appointment with surgeon. I’ve already lost a week so time is very important to me. I’m 61 and retired but play a lot of golf and am very active around my house. Gotta get this fixed!

I had this surgery a week ago…. I’m still blown away by how clever these people are to develop and perform these procedures. Pain on the night was pretty bad, settled down after about 48 hours - the procedure itself was actually quite relaxing on the day…. I managed to get some much needed sleep! Psychologically, I am scared of the thought of trying to train again. The feeling of it happening at the time made me feel sick. I have a huge mental barrier now. I know it’s early days, but that’s where I’m at now.

After my third right shoulder surgery, I have the Popeye biceps. I was around 60 years old at the time, and I'm 70 now. Everytime I shower and wash the right side of my head and neck I get a terrible cramping in the biceps. That's not the only time it happens, but it's the situation where it happens the most. I was never given a choice from the Dr. on any part of this repair. The Dr. was a cocky young guy fresh out of the military. Soon after, he was fired from Marshfield Clinic in Rice Lake, WI. This all started from a dropped shoulder that was pinned back together due to a motorcycle accident in 1978. Then in 2005 I tore my rotator cuff tendons and had impengment. That time the cut off the end of my collar bone. Fun. Sence then I also tore the left shoulder rotator cuff. That was my 4th shoulder operation. Now that one is popping and gives it's share of pain. Fun. Heck, who needs shoulders anyway?

I just had rotator cuff procedure in the 25th of October this year, during the cuff procedure with supraspinatus tear at 90% and a SLAP tear of the labrum they also found damage to the long head of the bicep tendon where they preformed a tenodamy. It wasn’t discussed at all before surgery as I don’t think my surgeon thought that the long head was damaged. I wish it would’ve showed up in the MRI so we could’ve looked at options?! I’m 56 and work a fairly demanding occupation and I’m sure this will cause me some issues going forward in the time I have left to work!

Had surgery on 10/21. My RC surgery took 5.5 hours (was initially thought that would take 2.5) The hospital sent me home with a sling that had no padding at the forearm and no waist belt. Kind of feel like I’m missing out on the better sling and may alter my recovery. Your thoughts?

I’m six months and a half post up on a reverse shoulder replacement and just this past week I started having severe pain and a huge bruise on my arm. Well, I seen my orthopedic surgeon and he said that my bicep detached well I’m not very pleased I didn’t go bowling with the 16 pound bar. I did not throw a baseball or football and I didn’t do anything strenuous. Besides rake up some leaves with a plastic rake. I hate communicating it’s not worth attaching, so I’m not for sure how you can swing or lift without your bicep being attached

@laurendeneen8672 so far really well! Be prepared for strict protocol in the first 6 weeks and definitely buy a shower chair since you'll be non-weightbearing. I'm on week 7 and really happy with how recovery is going and am working on walking. The surgery wasn't too bad but I found PT to be tougher because you're trying to get all that range of motion back.

biggest problem was getting my Orthopedic Dr., to take the injury seriously. it took two weeks after the injury to get an appointment, then we had to do an xray. another week passed while he argued that studies for individuals over 55 didn't substantiate surgery. Finally got an MRI which showed the tear with a 3.3 cm sparation. surgery was scheduled 34 days after the initial injury, with a different surgeon. I'm two days into recovery now. initial Orthopedic surgeon did my full knee replacement 17 months ago. with the exception of similar scheduling issues, he did a great job and I have no complaints. Seems that HMO's simply don't want to schedule work that you are paying them for, without your having to fight every inch of the way!

Hang in there, it gets better and better. I was very skeptical about the surgery (which I had a week and a half after the initial injury, but here I am 9 1/2 weeks post-op and my arm feels great. Just don't over do it, take PT seriously and try to get a good night sleep. I'm 43 and work in a heavy industrial setting, not picking up anything heavy and taking it a day at a time. Don't forget to take your Vitamin D, I also added a multi-vitamin from Costco for any other deficiencies I may have do to diet. I also took this injury to work on my overall health, hitting the treadmill on a hill climb setting; not quite running yet as I don't want the impact to affect anything. Good luck and hope you all pull through.

I had a full knee replacement January 23. Recovery wasn't nearly as hard as it been with tendon repair surgery. With the knee repair, ice and the bicycle were my friends. I was told 12-16 weeks to be released to go back to work, I was released the beginning of my 7th week. With my Bicep/Tendon repair, I'm at 7 weeks now, and I'm still being VERY careful with movement and lifting weights. I can tell it's getting better, however this repair is going to take substantially longer than the complete knee replacement.
