@@bruinsdiehards yah i mean ever since the 2011 playoffs in he's been a permanent first line player and isn't slowing down despite his age. He's been almost a point per game his whole career and i feel like he would've had the conn smythe trophy in 2019 had he and the bruins won game 7 in the 2019 finals instead of the blues. And i as a caps fan personally wish chara had stayed in boston for 1 more year but i understand he wanted a bigger role than he had in 2019-2020 and about stamkos, i think he was willing to take a significant discount to stay in tampa like i think he was only asking for like $4.5-5 million which would've been fair. Offering a 8 year $3 million deal then walking away without any further effort is a bit disrespectful knowing he wouldn't take a term as long as 8 years or a salary as low as $3 million. 8 years is too long of a term and $3 million is too low a salary for someone of his caliber. It isn't the fact that he left its how he left with the very little effort and transparency the bolts gave. if they wanted to move on they could've just said so so it wouldn't look as bitter or antagonistic, if i were them i would've given maybe 3-4 ears for $5 million maybe like he i think was requesting. Sorry for the long message just lots to dissect on what you discussed.

Yeah we don’t know anything at this point accept they’re talking and both sides want to get a deal. Heck I blame the Bruins for not signing him long term last year

@@bruinsdiehards absolutely I know they took turns this last season but he is young enough that he had the power last year to be a bruins staple, I’m hoping the long term deal does get done this year so he will be.

My only issue is that we do not know the ask at all. There are so many numbers out there, and no insider has given solid intel. Your thoughts are valid, but I find it interesting and I include myself in this statement. We always turn on the player regarding what ownership is willing to pay or not pay.

That’s fair. I’m mostly just going off of reasonable conclusions based off the evidence present. For example, The Bruins have 8.6 million in cap space and they lost all of their leverage once they traded Ullmark, so it’s incredibly unlikely to me that Sweeney is aggressively lowballing Swaymans camp. Then you look at who is agent is, which is a notoriously ruthless, and greedy negotiator. Then there’s reports from fairly reputable sources his agent was pushing for 9 to 10,000,000 a year. It just makes more sense contextually that Sways camp is pushing for a ludicrously high amount more than it would make sense that the Bruins are lowballing Swayman in a scenario where they have no leverage. That’s why I assume him and his agent are just simply asking for way too much but I guess you’re right. We won’t have proof of that until later.

That’s also true about turning on the player, but I wouldn’t blame anybody if he drags them over the coals for 70+ million and then doesn’t perform. I don’t think professional athlete should be entitled to not having any pressure from fans after they sign a massive deal like that.

You’re right though it pretty much all comes down to how much he’s asking for. But to me, 8 x 8 is MORE than fair and generous enough to shut everybody up, so if I found out he’s holding them hostage for more than that, he deserves every bit of pressure imo. We don’t have proof that Sweeney ever offered that to be fair either. I’m just saying, I tend to be of the mind that if push came to shove, that’s where the line in the sand is. No matter what his future looks like, he hasn’t accomplished enough to be making demands like that. So I guess we will see

I think this has more to do with the agents lawyers and accountants than Sweeney or Swayman. He's got an extremely aggressive agent. Remember agents make their commissions based on percentage. This same agent got nylander his outrageous contract. The idea that Jeremy made it through first round playoffs is questionable - auston matthews, the #1 scorer in the league, didn't actually show up to play during playoffs. So I cannot give him full credit for one playoff round where Matthews barely played. Likely why they recently made Matthews captain. I don't believe the Bruins gave away their leverage when they traded linus. They've got a pipeline they don't talk about. Bruins generally don't overhype their prospects - I don't know how that happened with jeremy. It's unusual. But those were the covid years, he was selling jerseys and a fan favorite so.... They had to combine business with hockey. I agree that he's not proven yet. But he will likely be a solid goalie someday. If Jeremy walks? (He likely won't) I don't have a problem with it. As long as we have Coach goalie Bob Essesna It means we can bring in a top six forward! I would like to get back to the business of scoring. Not depend on goalies stealing games.
