Thanks for the update - all good points... Would really like to see another winger come in. We'll see what's left in the cash register after they sign Sway.
Was hoping Sweeney would sign or trade for a top six winger. This is a big hole to fill, they spent money on Zadorov and Lindhom and absorbing Korpasalis contract limits their cap flexibility.
Personally, both are great playmakers. Speed I give to Lysell. Merkulov has a better feel for the game (offensive and defensive). Lysell gets most of his assists by have the defense scramble with his pace pushing. Merkulov gets his by having the higher IQ (with eyes in the back of his head). Defensively, Merkulov is better (again, my opinion). Truly, a tough choice to make.
@@bruinsdiehards I intern at 98.5 and heard rumors from someone who is closely involved with Providence saying this. I forget exactly what was said but these are all rumors so idk the validity behind it
The problem for each of these rookies is that Monty doesnt trust young players. One only needs to look at last season where Beecher, Poitras and Lohrei were intermittently dropped from the lineup. I dont see any rookie averaging 12 minutes a game under Monty, who constantly schuffles lines
IDK the answer regarding Swayman's contract but what I do know is I think most if not all NHL caliber goalies would excel in Boston and our defense did not get any weaker in the offseason. Swayman and his agent should consider this. Swayman does not want to end up making big cash, in the short term, for some losing franchise. I mean the reality is, Ullmark is a decent goalie but his numbers are not gonna be so great in Ottawa. As for the roster spots we need to fill out....promote from within. Give some of these guys an honest shot at proving themselves in the NHL. There will always be veterans around mid to later in the year we can acquire if need be. I can't see us falling out of the playoffs because we have some bottom 6 issues potentially to begin the season. Make them coaches work for a living 😛
Bostons defense sucked last year… swayman played amazing pre all star break, then after the all star break he slipped and ullmark picked up the slack. With two outstanding goalies the defense got bailed out a lot (macovy is a defensive liability). Ullmark had amazing numbers when he was on Buffalo. .915 sv% on a shitty team are great numbers. All that being said swayman earned a big payday on this contract. He fought last year and went to arbitration, and still wants to play for Boston. I think Sweeney is doing his normal bs and over spending and will have no cap space come trade deadline and will again trade away draft picks for 1 year rentals that he won’t be able to resign cause of cap restrictions
@@soup31314 I agree Swayman deserves a bump but you have to be wary here. He has not played a whole year as a starter at this level. I am not saying he can't get it done but we don't want to sign some long term big cash contract to a guy that's basically unproven still. If things went wrong you would be on here saying how Sweeney messed up again with a long term contract for Swayman LOL Hind sight is best sight for you types. Goalies bail out a lot of defenses. Defense is a hard position to play in the NHL. To say ours sucked last year is ridiculous. To call McAvoy a defensive liability is even more ridiculous. If you think Ullmark and Swayman or any goalies stats are gonna be the same whether they play in Ottawa or Boston, well I dont't know what to say lol Of course their save percentage will hover in the same area but when Ulmarks goals per game goes up a bunch, you will eat your words. Whether he trades draft picks or not will depend on if we have a real shot at cup or not. If we don't you don't bother but if we do then you have to try and go for it right? And that requires you give to get. My bet is we are in the hunt again this year so either the prospects can cut it in the NHL or you have to get players who can. pretty simple.
@@eatonbeaver6972 i full marks goals against goes up that is not his fault that it the teams fault. The bruins took the worst goalie in the nhl in trade. Yes i think macovy is a liability. He thinks he is Bobby Orr, he pinches wayyy too often. When he played with chara, he was ok, but this last season 47 points in 74 games (which is 2nd most he has ever played) and was a +4!
Sway should be signed for 2-4 years a 5-6 . If not ok ship him. Paying goalie high number and long is stupidity. And he have not prof to be able ti stand alone for 70 games and hopefully a play off
I agree...not sure he would have to play 70 games but your point is still valid. Before signing any goaltender to a long term high $$$ salary they need to prove they deserve it. Swayman has played great but you don't want to be in a position where you are paying some goalie 8 million a year and he is either not playing or he's having confidence issues.
agree on Swayman getting a shorter contract until we see how he does as a true #1. If Matthews had showed up, played as himself and Swayman took him on? That may have altered my perspective a bit. Jeremy proves himself over the next two years? I'd have no problem giving him $9 mil aav on his next contract if he wants to push it that far I understand Sway's perspective, we have been underpaying goalies for a while and are spoiled! But we were underpaying proven goalies!
@@bruinsdiehards I gotta disagree on the lack of speed. A bit, at least. He is a big guy and it may "seem" he lacks in this department, but overall I don't think it's atrocious at all...

They did need help down the middle though. So maybe they think a lot of the kids they have in the system
Patiraricy playing for the Bruins would be freaking hilarious. Since he got chara charged with assault lol
That would be hilarious

Your opinion sounds very well thought out and accurate to me
Haha because there's no one else to try or put there!!
Merkulov is probably ready but he plays left/center I’m not sure where he fits.
My hope is he makes the club.
Tough call. I'm not sure who will earn a spot!
You don't have a favourite?
What do you think the Bruins will do?
I've heard about Lysell having character concerns in Providence so that was possibly another reason he didn't make the jump
Interesting. Haven’t heard that before. Do tell

I feel like this is said about every coach that coaches the Bruins.
What do you think of signing Zadina to a PTO? a former 1st rd pick that maybe could benefit from the culture in the bruins room?
Im fine with any PTOs
