The Mysterious Origins of The PlayStation Startup Sounds
its deep? lmao
love the amount of research that went into this. can't wait to see more!
That New York desktop wallpaper.
xd
Huh, so Subnautica applies all these sound techniques...
Reminds me of Star Wars sounds
very cool video! Also your soundtrack is amazing! :D
Its like a robot is trying to understand why a stupid joke is funny
i can totally see sam lake writing alan fighting a robot version of himself
fellow vivaldi user spotted now there are two of us
Really got me curious and wasn't able to find any answers or search it through music recognition apps like Shazam even after extracting audio. The background beat from 00:09 to 00:32 , is it your original creation or is it part of some deeply hidden OST that nothing was able to recognize? Cheers Pretty awesome video, sad that the algo didn't put you on the main pages or in recommended, quality for sure has potential to be 1m+ views.
I both love and hate "Highwayman theme". It's awesome, but barred behind elaborate fetch quest, you usually don't hear it for very long (car make trips on map very short) and it is very different from any other track on FO2 OST.
Forget those old 40s/50s songs, the music in the OG Fallout and Fallout 2 are the best themes! They are way better at portraying a post-apocalyptic world!
Love the PS1 one
What are you saying It is just South Korean Anthem v5
Terran music kicks ass but zerg 1 has all of the tracks beat
The Roland S550 still has the same Spaceous Sweep preset as the D50 so he might as well have used a D50.
I saw the thumbnail and I thought you where AI generated. Im shocked to see you are a real human
Polish name - Polish looking guy - Polish KURWA mać
I'm not a sound guy so i may be wrong. but it seems like the funnier sound effects like the crowbar and health station don't have much fade out. they're at peak volume and then abruptly cut off.
Harem is my most favorite one.
Congratulations!
Thank you! Deus Ex forever! Helios!!
This is the greatest video I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Over a decade of watching videos and nothing has made me as happy as this one
Why don't games have theme tunes, or OSTs anymore (except the ultra high quality games like RDR2) ? Deus Ex main theme is just SO perfect. Ditto the themes for each of the levels. I'm sure the main theme inspired the main theme of Unreal Tournament 2003 too.
Really interesting looking game! But I have to say that idea of hauntology is so completely wrong. Ideas don't hang around like ghosts, they don't have a life of their own, if there are political ideas "haunting" the political landscape it's because there are neurotic jews who simply can't let them go. So if they're tv producers playing around with what the next show is going to focus on, guess what, they're going to talk about the ideas that their neuroticism continually revolve around. Same for the publishing world, same for corporate boardrooms, same for big budget hollywood productions, same for political lunch meetings. To understand politics you have to understand that "it's jews all the way down."
I wonder, what is your Slavic origin
I LOVE the chanting and morse code beeping.
Highly trained professional doesn’t need to hear all this, he is a Gordon
I FUCKING LOVE IT
I really like the endings in this game and the discussions around them! I got Deus Ex about 2 years ago, recently played it with the Revision mod, but even though it has higher quality soundtrack, I still switch off to the regular. It just feels amazing, and like you said, the memories attached to them are as strong as whatever nano-augmented material would exist in Deus Ex! So onto the discussion of the endings: One thing people have noted with the TT and Illuminati endings are that they would not fix the issues the game represents in the long run! The Illuminati can still be corrupt, like it happened in the story, and nothing is stopping humanity from rebuilding the technology that was destroyed after the black out. So the Helios ending has become fan favorite, especially since the promise to take each individual into account, such that society can function like it did before, and those who want to distance themselves from it can. But then comes Invisible War, and the cancelled sequels: IW gives us the same 3 endings (and a 4th unimportant one), but this time the Helios ending has changed a little, in many peoples opinion to the worse: JCD/Helios now want to assimilate everyone into itself with nano-augmentation, reducing our individuality to solve the world's problems. This didn't seem right to many players, so then comes the cancelled sequels: What we know is that in one of them, Paul Denton would have been a leader of a disconnected resistance group against JCD/Helios's utopia. This shows how bad the IW Helios ending became, as Paul was JC's biggest supporters. So something must have gone very very wrong, and I really wish we would've gotten to see it! Anyway that was a lot of text! Most of this comes from the comment section over at "Deus Ex: Invisible War JC Denton's Plan", where I first got the information about the ending and the canceled sequels. I just shortened everything here. Other than that, I really think this is an interesting topic, especially with how close the first game represents our current world! I can only hope we get the benevolent Helios ending of the first game, instead of any of the rest, or whatever worse things humanity can cook up.
0:09 Dead CMOS Battery moment:
bro will put his face on anything, also its crazy how there are people who will see half-life memes and wounder from where the sounds come from (totally not me when i was 12)
Your rendition of My Chrysalis Highwayman is *S*I*C*K*! Also the editing of this video is absolutely next level. I wish you made videos more often :|
I prefer Zerg songs, its... my childhood. Also, Terrans arent only Americans, they are humans from Earth (Terra, in PT-BR), the UED campaing from Brood War have an Russian/Germany accent
Doom. Duke Nukem. StarCraft. Half Life. These 4 things have such deep roots in my brain.
1:03 1 SLmple = 1 FrLme
This was a fascinating deep dive. The music you produced for this was dope as well. This channel is like found treasure.
realized you have some wierd editing, im a big fan of Half Life and I edit videos if you need any help let me know.
It's this neat thing you may not have heard of called... STYLIZATION.
Looking at some of your videos. I don't think you should be the one to help others.
From what i remember all of the sounds come of Terran theme comes from a Roland Jv-1080.
Please do the music of Age of empires 2
Good!
Not everyone can do sound design. A few can. But Kelly Bailey _understands_ sound design and its impact on media. You can tell with Black Mesa, which has gorgeous sound and music design are gorgeous on their own but not as memorable as Half-Life's. Kudos for the bit about intrusive vs. non-intrusive sound too. I have noticed that, for example, Half-Life's chunky explosion sounds fit perfectly in mods for other games despite being paired off with other, high-quality sounds such as the silky clean rocket launcher firing sound from Doom 3, and that's because the intrusive explosion sound carries that idea of undeniable power.
This is the video where I realized not everything needs an exhaustive video essay.
The real question is ,do you know who ate all the donuts
Pyrocynical mixed with Thom Yorke
Sorry for crashing your fake "Mystery Solving" party, but your informations about the PS1 startup sound are totally wrong. And I think you know that. Because if you would just say that the fundament of the startup sound is a factory preset of the Roland D-50 called "Spacious Sweep", then the video would be exactly 30 seconds long. But you don't make any money with that, so you've turned the simple truth into a huge X-File. Totally ridiculous for anyone who knows the truth. Wanna hear the fundament of the PS1 startup sound played correctly? Hear it is at the 3:05 mark >>> ua-cam.com/video/skakV9X0bPk/v-deo.htmlsi=_SPJarOQupENUSuj
1:39 How did he even upscale the sound, crazy
bro who ever your editor is, they're unhinged as hell (and i mean that in a light-hearted way, lol)
