Creating Classic Trance Songs with a KORG microKORG XL+

KORG has just announced that they are releasing an updated version to their Microkorg ( the Microkorg 2), which is the most sold synth ever. I bought the XL version of 16 years ago and haven´t really used it for ages. I had to get it and see how it sounds and works today and boy did I kinda hate myself that I haven´t used it much before... It sounds absolutely amazing and especially when used f...
Creating Classic Trance Songs with a Roland SH-4D

The Roland SH-4D is one strange piece of musical hardware. Made like a groove box and still has the abilities as a workhorse synth while so small that you can bring it along for a mountain trek and use it with AA batteries.... like what tha fudge is that about? 😅 It´s clearly ment for the more techno/house genres but I wonder, can I recreate some good, old 90-00s trance tunes with it and make i...

Thanks I enjoyed that
Great to hear that, thanks for the positive comment mate :-)
This is the best Pro VS Mini song on all of youtube
Wow, thanks for that amazing feedback, really appreciate that! Happy holidays to you :-D
I assume your just using the Roland as a sound source and using midi files for the parts? I have about 1200 classic trance midi files I stumbled on with every major trace artist from the 90 from Tiesto Buuren BT Faith No More etc. if you want a copy id be happy to email you the pack. There's no way you could make these songs just on the Roland unfortunately due to the limitations of the sequencer. Nice work 🎉
Hey there and thanks for liking it :-) Yupp, using the sounds from it and playing it with either parts of already made midis or I write them myself upon listening to the originals. The sequencer on the main synth is quite complicated yeah, so connect it and run it through Logic Pro as an external instrument and record it track by track (do that in ever video) :-) Thanks for the offer, much appreciated, but I have quite a huge collection myself so think i have enough for making at least 813 more videos :-p
@CBSoreidemusic No problem buddy...
This is brilliant hahahaha
Cheeeeeers mate, awesome that you enjoyed it :-)🎅🏻🤶
Great job! I like what you made!!!👏👏 ...I'm waiting my SH-4D (it is on the road, soon reaching my home) and hope to use it as well as you are...👍
Thanks mate and cheers for the uplifting comment! 😀And congrats on soon getting one :-D It´s a bit tricky to use in the beginning but ones you start to understand how things work you will surely have a blast. Perfect way to spend the Christmas holiday 🎅🏻
I used Korg Nts1 Nu Tekt for 🌀👾👾👾 amazing JT4000🎛️🚀🎬
I haven't used the Nts1 but I heard lots of great audio examples of it :-D
Nice take on Anahera. 2 thumbs up😊
Thanks a lot for the positive comment Allo5aura5 :-) It´s far away from the original but think this little piece of blue plastic managed well :-D
Unfortunately, you only offer all these cheesy, horrible mainstream sounds. Even for the time, that was frowned upon in the real expert scene. And the device can do so much more, is more interesting for so much other sound material.
I completely agree that the JP-8080 (and 8000) can make much more original and complex sounds, thats for sure :-) But in this video I try to replicate the original sounds of the Trance tracks of 1999+ so thats why I used these really good tasting Dutch Gouda Cheesy sounds.... And I love that kind of cheese 😁🤤
Hello.Roland sh4d or jp8080 or jd 08, for trance😊?
Hello there :-) I have no experience with the JD-08 but I have seen some patch banks online that makes it create really cool sounds ( kulshanstudios.com/roland-jd-08/glissade2 for example). The JP-8080/8000 sounds awesome and really has the trancy vibes to it while you can manipulate the sounds pretty extensive. But it´s quiet old so not that compatible with modern DAWs. That´s the strengh of the SH-4D I think. Portable, tons of sounds and FXs (Can play 4 synths and one drum machine at the same time), easy to connect with USB-C, small and can even run on AA batteries. So that one would be choice in total :-)
Amazing work here, thanks so much for sharing! Also what are those cool vu meters?!
Thanks a bunch for the positive feedback, much appreciated 😀 The meters are just some cheap lights react to sound. Can easily be found at cheap electronic stores both in shops and online 🙂
pls many trance Roland sh4-d
The more Trance the better 😀
This is awesome lolol
Thanks a lot for the positive comment 😁 🎅🏻
Is there a longer version of your intro music playing the first 40 seconds of this video?
Hello there :-) Sure is, it´s a track I released called "You and Me" :-) Just search for that and my name ( CB Soreide ) on any streaming service or youtube and you will find it 🙂
@@CBSoreidemusicThanks. Just found it. Its an amazing piece of music. Just subcribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!!

@@CBSoreidemusic Any course by you?
@@heydjau Hehe, naw, we´ll see what the future brings, still learning a lot 😀
Your unboxing skills leave a lot to be desired, but you more than made up for it with that track at the end...awesome.
Heeey, thanks for the feedback and awesome that you like the track🙂 Hehe, I like to keep the details short rather than going too much into the details of the synths ( so many other videos here that goes 100% into everything about them) and focus more on what one can make out of them 😇
Beautiful, can you show how your patches were made? Or are they all presets? I have a MS2000R, so it's only compatible with the OG
Hello there and thanks for the feedback 🙂 I just used the patches that came with it with only some minor tweaking to the ADSR. No idea how to make one from scratch with this one 😛 Ohhhh, I envy you. Always wanted a MS2000 back in the days, thought it sounded so incredible warm 😀
Yummy 😊
Tried to taste it and it tasted a bit plastic mixed with some weird chemical things I´ve never had before😛🤭 But I sounds tasty as heck yeah😁😇
I don't understand, can all these sounds be configured on this device?
Hey there 🙂 Yuppy, all sounds are from this tiny piece of plastic goody except for the drums/perc and FXs. Added effects, delay, reverb and such after recording it but all patches are the ones it comes with and little too none tweaking 🙂
Nice. 👌🏽
Thanks for the nice feedback! 😃
@ I wrote you in other video about the synth.. I am a beginner producer and I making my own music too.. I like this kind of emotional tracks..
@@gonguerovlog2372 Then you have a great hobby to spend time on in front of you 🙂I´ve always been a complete sucker for the more emotional / melodic styles rather than the big mainroom, huge takeoff and then just hard kicks thats more popular today so I that´s my main goal with making music.... making the stuff that I like 🙂
@ you are right, and I am almost the same way.. doing the music that I like.. btw here is my last track and I am making another version right now in case you want to give me a feedback 😬 ua-cam.com/video/iAEz-EJsNEI/v-deo.htmlsi=UOzuUhyBViKWXaa5
What kicks/drum pack did you use? This sounds amazing btw :O
Hey here and thanks a lot for the positive feedback 😀The loops are from some of the trance expansions for the VPS Avenger synth 🙂
Hi. Can you tell me how to connect the behringer Pro vs mini to my computer and record sound? Thanks, keep up the good work.
Hey there and cheers for the positive feedback🙂It´s not too hard to set up, but you must have a audio interface or some input (Guess it will also work if your computer have 3.5mm audio input). Connect it with a audio cable from the headphones OUT on the PRO VS Mini and into your audio interface / computer. Then USB-c in the synth and into the computer. Then open your DAW, Choose External intrument (in Logic, probably called something similar in other DAWs), choose audio 1-2 as input (or which ever is the audio in) and tadaaaaa 😀. So you record the audio with the audio cable and control the Midi with the USB cable 🙂
I'm amazed how well this synth is doing with this classic trance sounds. Now i want to buy one. 😅Great job.
Hello there and thanks for the awesome feedback and wicked that you found the video inspiring😀 It´s a strange synth for sure, but I really think you can do a lot of cool stuff with it if you spend some time with it (pluss you can bring it on the bus and play around for hours with it there) 🙂
Carte Blanche hard to play? Sounds like 2 tunes lower and and a higher riff at same time
I didn´t play it (I suck at playing, so just painstaking write it in as midi. But yeah, its a arpeggiator ish with one 2 lower and the main building up and down.... if that makes sense :-p But It wasnt that complicated, the delays creates the effect so it sounds more complex 🙂
@CBSoreidemusic How did u find out the notes
@@waynesilverman3048 By trial and error basically, lots of fun but takes time 😅 Listen to the original and writing it into the daw at the same time. That´s why its not 100% correct 😇
Even the keys look good as well as the versions of tunes u have done ,all on the super saw ( when these tunes was out I only had a basic normal saw tooth wave on my Casio and square wave but dreamed of that D tuned saw unison.) It had a drum machine in and General midi ,the closest to the super saw was a Euro dance sound which was to low with bass as well more like hard-core rave .I have a minilogue and tb3 and electribe 2, but find the synth strings are perfect to use on my Casio like 808 state pacific state .
Hello.. I’ve just starting making music but I am a computer guy.. (digital synths in my DAW), but when I see this video I have been impressed, and I always think how the old producers made them music.. can you make a video how the sounds are made and how is the synth connected to make the sounds?.. I am just curious about that.. thanks
Hello there and thanks for the positive comments🙂Congrats on starting making music, it´s fun as heck and the perfect way to zone out and relax I think 🙂 I released a video some weeks after the one you watched here that basically shows it more or less. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/9QKUTjgL8mI/v-deo.html Hope that gives a quick input how it works more or less 😇
@ thanks.. I’ll take a look on that video.. and yeah I am having some much fun.. I am almost 37 and I would loved start doing this earlier
@@CBSoreidemusic another question, about the other video.. the presets like the Rank 1 that you choose, are already in the synth?.. or you have to do the sounds.. I have an idea how the sound design works, and how we can do sounds with a wave table. But I still curious about the physical synth.. let’s say.. in digital world I have Sytrus on Fl Studio and it comes with presets that you can use (saw, bass, brass, pads, etc,) or if you want you can create your own sound (preset).
@@gonguerovlog2372 The patch was in the synth (Only used factory patches in all my vids about this synth). But it sounds awesome straight out, probably why Rank 1 used it as it more or less was since the synth was released not long before they made that track 😅 Never used the Sytrus synth but the basics are more or less the same with building up a sound. I just checked out Vital (free) and managed to make a Super saw ish sound pretty fast there so would recommend that one if you want to test it with a different synth 🙂The Softsynth are often based on the hardware ones so its often the same way to create something with them. I usually use the patches featured or from sample packs and tweak them afterwards. Im too restless to make something 100% from scratch 😛
@ Yeah, I have vital too.. but I am a beginner.. I am doing some bass sound for my tracks but with the time I want to make some pads and more sounds to make more original my music, I am still looking what gente fits good for me.. but anyway. Thanks for the info man 🤝
00:00:00 DISLIKE! 😑 You didn't say HOW you got this sample from THIS Arturia MicroFreak device! You're a liar! 😠
??? Not sure what you mean here 🤔
@@CBSoreidemusic You didn't do anything yourself with this device, but you just play the track in a software sequencer! This is what I saw in your video. What exactly is your contribution?
@@cyberianoid As I do with all my vids I record everything before and play the result (I do also have vids that shows the process). So if you look at the part from the DAW you see the tracks lined up and named after that it is. Have a fantastic day 😀
@@CBSoreidemusic OK, I'll check it 🤔 And I'm keeping an eye on you 🧐 😆 And I wish you all the best :)
Oh yeah 🕺 those were the days ❤ great stuff 🎉
I so agree with you, nostalgia rules! :-D And thanks for your nice comments :-)
@@CBSoreidemusic this reminds me to the days when I was around 20 :) still loving these sounds. Greetings to Norway
@@dubtube6691 Fantastic that it gives you those nostalgic feelings, they are the best. 😀
@@CBSoreidemusic do you have a video where you create those melodies?
@@dubtube6691 Hmmm, don´t think so since I´ve always made that ready before recording the videos. But it´s just listening and trying to re-create it as accurate as possible. (Maybe not make it perfect since then you might get copyrighted, one of my vids had like 6 copyright claims so good luck with moneytizing it :-p ) You can also search for Midi files online, there is a lot of websites where you can download it ( even though lesser known trance songs are hard to find9 🙂t
where you've bought those sound bars? they are cool!
Got them of a electro shop here in Norway, but you can surely get them of Temu and such quite cheaply :-)
@@CBSoreidemusic how they are called? :)
@@Utentone Try searching for RGB LED sound bar, found several ones with that search 🙂
Trance is only Roland JP-8080 (or JP-8000), the rest are clones!
It´s a real beast when it comes to that genre for sure :-D
Awesome! You should release a preset pack! And carte Blanche -awesome tune. *I’ve got that on vinyl meme* 😂
Thanks for the positive feedback :-D Hehe, we´ll see, i´m more into making music than sculpting sounds but maybe maybe :-)
Should make a video of it making proper supersaw style anthems, if it can do that. The washy strings sound nice though.
Not a bad idea :-) I´ll see if I manage to get the time, thanks for the comments :-D
I always wanted an analog synthesizer just for fun. I think I will buy this and the JT 4000, for the price it seems like a good option I hope I don't regret it.
Hey mate :-) It´s absolutely a good option to get to know the basics at a low price while being able to take it anywhere. But do know that they are really tiny, so if you really want to get the hands on feeling then I would save up a little bit and get eg. a Microfreak. Little bit more but SOOO much more punch. Also the keys on the two Behringers are bleh so you should have a larger midi keyboard to really play with it 🙂
@CBSoreidemusic from arthuria? do you have any video about it?
@@oscmadsw839 I sure :-) I put it out a few months ago, can really make some great sounds and you can import samples and other patches :-) ua-cam.com/video/WCBb8MGIRx4/v-deo.html
@@CBSoreidemusic Newbie question, how does this system connect to an audio interface? Does it connect directly to the PC?
@@oscmadsw839 No stress, we are all newbies until one have tried one 🙂It´s quite easy, USB-C in the synth and then to the computer. This handles power and also midi connection with the DAW. Then audio from the headphones output on the synth into a audio interface. Then (In Logic at least), I choose external instrument, Midi input 1 and audio input 1-2. Might be some other workways with other DAWs but that basically it 🙂
Yasssss
😁
The sounds came out nice, but I didn't enjoy your sarcasm.
how do you work with jps latency

Wow, thanks a lot for saying that, truely inspiring to hear. Thanks a bunch mate 😀😀
Any hardware compressors or just a software one? And what audio interface you've used? Thank, great job!
Hey there and thanks for the positive feedback 🙂 Only used software ones ( Izotope Ozone 10 on the final mix) and no Audio Interface was needed since the SH-4D sends both midi and audio through the USB 😁
@@CBSoreidemusic i forgot about Roland's audio interfaces built-in! Very good job!
That really makes it much more mainstream to work with so thankfull for that. 🙂 Worked almost like a charm (but for some reason the recorded audio was a bit off, probably a setting set wrong😅) But thanks again 😀
