Here we are back in the cold cutting some big rounds into boiler wood. Today we used the Stihl 881 chainsaw with a 3ft bar. I also used a new tape measure to measure the logs. Here is what I used. Inkerma Tape Measure. 16ft with laser Measure. amzn.to/4jaqw6M DY7Q728X. 10% discount code
Operation Boiler Wood
Переглядів 2,7 тис.7 годин тому
We are out of boiler wood. Well at least wood that is dry or seasoned a little. So I do have a good amount of locust wood that I brought back from a tree job that are left in log form of large rounds. So today I’m getting busy cutting up and putting wood into totes to be used for boiler wood. And not to mention on a pretty cold day.
Processing Firewood In Freezing Temps

Processing some firewood in single digit temps. Not the funniest thing to do but it needs to be done. Lots of wood to make to get ready for next year. Chain came off. Was an easy fix. Just part of the job.
Firewood Quality Control

Kiln and boiler talk. Also doing two processes loads of resplits. Less than 1 facecord worth. Not bad. Touching the wood one time is worth the quality being perfect.
Packing The Kiln Full

Putting 5 production firewood totes into the kiln along with 1 oak tote for burning inside the house and a boiler totes. I will be adjusting the drying parameters to try and optimize the drying times even more. Trying to keep the production up while drying wood for the boiler and the house. We will see how it goes.

Frozen Fuel Or Is Something Else Wrong?
Переглядів 1,2 тис.28 днів тому
Tractor sat out in the cold all night. Temp was down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. Let tractor warm up for about 15min then started to use it. Then all of a sudden tractor shuts off and won’t restart. Not sure what is wrong or frozen fuel. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. @JohnDeere

I finally have everything on its own dedicated loop. Now everything should run way more efficient. With these below freezing temps the boiler finally is put to work and is doing its job keeping everything at the desired temp. @Heatmasterss Also the SetPower portable fridge is also working as designed. So happy to have an efficient fridge. Keeps all my beverages at my desired temperature. Click ...
Tree Removal Wood To Outdoor Boiler Wood!

We took down 3 locust trees earlier in the week and now it’s time to make some boiler wood out of it. Not easy to cut and split on the processor but much easier than cutting with a chainsaw and standalone splitter. @bruteforceusa9671

Firewood Inventory Has Disappeared Fast!
Thanks for sharing your setup! What do you have did a boiler?
Before the boiler. I had nothing.
20 is serious in Texas, lololo fill it up
Oh yeah. I just recently filled her up almost full. Gave me well over 24hrs.
I have a old 3 story brick house built in 1910. I just bought a c500 im hoping it will be enough stove for me heating roughly 5000 sq feet of semi insulated home. I have coal mines handy to my house though so ill likely burn 50% coal. Your c800 is a beast.
Your boiler should have no problem heating that. As long as you have enough water flow with your pumps and the right kind of wood to burn. But coal will be awesome to burn. Plenty of BTU’s.
Watching the Brute split wood compared to the beast is like watching you in slow motion. lol Too bad you can't adjust the return distance on the wedge. Kills so much time waiting for it to come back to the log.
Yeah I know. It’s so slow. Eventually I will have a custom splitter made. It will be the fastest most powerful splitter on the planet. In do time.
Red oak
Nice pile!
It sure is
My blower can clean off a light snow like that in less than 10 minutes (I just have an electric one). I would consider using that as a tool sometimes when the snow is a light dusting. Edit: Just noticed you say 'I should have blown it off'. I agree (and the tractor too).
Yeah I do do that. But when the snow is to wet the blower does absolutely nothing. It’s been to cold here with the perfect so when blowing it it just turns straight ice. I did end up melting it dry so all good.
All ways look forward to your videos Matt, again it just amazes me that you can throw in large green chunks and the boiler just eats them up.
Yeah it really is crazy how the boiler just eats the wood. Doesn’t matter how wet it is it just burns the wood.
Morning You probably answered this question already… why do you have liners in some of your totes ? I see your making the vent hood also 👍
The totes with the liners is for boiler wood. Easy to see what is what and a lot of the boiler wood could be small or huge. It’s easy to keep the boiler wood in the totes.
Man, I was thinking the trailer wasn't going to lift between the weight and the cold. I'm glad I was wrong. Nice load of splits 👍
Yeah. That trailer is awesome. That’s what happens when you buy the right trailer. I’ve been super happy with it so far.
Outstanding videos, your boiler is so awesome, thanks Matt
Thank you. The boiler is awesome. Definitely a huge asset.
That trailer holds a lot of wood!
Oh it sure does. It’s really amazing how much fits in there. Big heavy loads.
I know that splitter works nice and it's not to bad with the auto return but it's painful to watch the speed 😆 I'm telling you for as many resplits as you do a kinetic splitter is a game changer... I've got a couple Dr rapid fire splitters and you'll resplit an ibc 5 times faster 😁
Yeah I know. It’s painful to operate. Haha. One day I will get something a whole lot faster. We do do a fair amount of resplits. And anything to speed up the process is always good for more production.
That boiler is a beast very hungry. You have a tree company. Maybe you could start bringing 3 to 4 foot rounds I know it sucks, but they last forever
Yeah I used to bring back a whole lot of wood. I hate doing that as it take so much longer on the job site. But I may start from time to time to stock up on wood.
Great video Matt. Impressive operation. Good luck on the hunt.
Thank you. Yeah the rest of the winter will be a hunt for boiler wood. But I will figure it out. If I keep processing firewood daily like I have been that will keep me going for a while.
Why not crank up the driveway heat? Not enough ice or will it cause more ice? Asking from chilly Florida!!!
I could smelt the driveway. But my snow melt system doesn’t do the rest of the driveway and that’s the main issue. Once I do the whole driveway I will for sure have it melted at all times. When running the snow melt system it will melt whatever is on the driveway. Even thick ice. But that takes hrs to do unless you pre heat the slab before the snow which is preferred.
kerja bagus pak,,kayu besar hanya untuk kayu bakar
Yeah big wood for the boiler is preferred. Small wood works nice to establish a good coal bed.
@@Treestofirewood apa tidak dibuat furnitur atau bahan bangunan lain pak,apa terlalu banyak kayu
@sitafitri1422 it can be made into furniture. But I’m using it for boiler wood to heat all my buildings.
I'm not sure if a disc screener or drum roller would be better? The more I look at it and afrer building some grizzly bars on my processor I think the drum roller would better to get rid of the size shit I don't want in my wood.
Yeah I’ve seen them both in action. They both work. Disc cleaner in size is smaller in footprint. Not that that matters. Either one would be a huge benefit.
hi there interesting , best to all john
Thanks man. Hope you and yours had a great holidays.
Matt, Great video and you always have great videos. Showing the daily life and what it takes/ happens. I know you are 1 busy guy and have a lot of pots on the stove. Boiler videos to processor videos and everything in between is fine. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into your videos and you taking us along for the ride. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. I do try and show the different things we have going on here. If it didn’t take up so much time filming I’d get more done. But I’ve been trying to show more. Trying to keep the videos coming.
Nothing better than sitting by the fire drinking a cold beer and watching the beast in action. How many hours do you have on it now and how many cords of wood do you think you have processed with it?
I believe I’m right around 60hrs. I’d have to check. Cords, well I’ve bought over 150 cords since I’ve had this machine and have about 20ish left. So doing pretty good. And that’s also processing boiler wood in there as well. Nothing better than drinking a beer by a fire. Oh and watching the beast. Haha.
Good morning Matt Nice video ! Yes, it's good that you show the Good Bad and Ugly of a day in the wood business !😊 In the background of your video i think i saw what might be new construction on solar panel stands or did i miss that on a earlier video ? Wow on the jet streams overhead... never ending streams in the sky ! You have a good day 😊
Yeah I did those solar panels a few months ago. I have it ready to add a whole bunch more panels. This summer will be a whole lot of additions. Solar. Processing area. New buildings. New roads. New equipment. Lots to work for. Lots to do. Along with getting a whole lot of stuff to get my oldest ready for snowmobile racing. All exciting stuff.
@Treestofirewood Wow BUSY 😁
Keep them coming Matt.
That’s the plan. Staying busy
I love watching that machine run 😊 I think it's one of the best wedge configurations I've seen. I don't have much experience with elm, it only gets 4"-5" in diameter where I live then dies. We've had a few sawlogs across the sawmill. Pretty lumber, but has an odor to it. Good video 👍
I would agree. That wedge is awesome. Once you get used to it and where it needs to be. You can absolutely fly and make some pretty good looking wood. That wedge and machine has really sped up my production. I can make some series wood fast with very little effort. I love it. 2025 will definitely be my best production year to date.
Nice to see the resplits being done. Too many people just let it go. I used to resplit with the processor when I had mine as well.
Doing them while processing may slow you down a bit but saves the extra leg work later. But yeah lots let them go and just leave them big and that’s what the customer gets. To me that’s not good. All my wood is super consistent and when repeat customers get there wood it’s like deja vu.
@ exactly.
Brr 🥶❄️
Yes it is. I eventually get really warm so it’s okay. Just don’t like running the machine when it’s this cold. But once it’s warmed up it’s fine.
I’d love to see more of the boiler how often you fill it how boiler is very interesting to me
Ok. I will try to show it more often. I used to do a lot of them. But I haven’t done to much on this new boiler so I will try and make a few more on it.
Great video Matt. I put a 3/4 inch sheet of treated plywood under my conveyor. Made my life better. Flat shovel broom. All you need.
That’s a good idea. The more I use the machine, it gives me ideas to what I will be doing when it is in its final resting place. Especially to me clean up a whole lot easier.
I like your videos, a great prosser
Thank you. I will try to keep them coming.
There is definitely something to be said about the ease of resplitting the bigger pieces with that machine. i watch lots of firewood channels and have seen all the different processors. No opening doors or leaning way over. And i like the fact you are standing up doing little walk arounds looking over your machine all the time. You spent alot of money on that machine you want to have little looks and make sure everything is running smoothly. If you're sitting in a cab on your ass you aren't looking at those things listening to the different noises. Great machine and great run. You make it look easy. Keep up the great work.
The biggest thing to me was that I wanted to make sure the processor fit all my needs. I pay attention to detail with my firewood. To be able to be close to the wood, easy chain swap. Easy cleaning. Easy maintenance. Easy moving. Easy loading of logs. And resplits if and when necessary. When we produce wood daily I wanted to make sure it is enjoyable as possible.
Hello Matt, nice run of the processor, elm is nasty wood but it burns right. You definitely are kicking out the videos Matt.👍🇺🇸
Yeah elm wood is amazing to burn. It’s a pain to split but worth it. And I’m trying to be more consistent on putting out some videos. I do enjoy doing it. It just takes up a lot of time when the days are short. I’ll try to keep them coming.
What's your favorite flavor of Elm for burning? American/White, Red/Slippery, Chinese, Siberian.....
Burning elm. Few years back I personally burned about 10 cords worth of Chinese elm. Seemed to burn great. But I do think they all are fine to burn.
An impressive workout, shaking your right arm back to life. Enjoying your channel a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah was cramping a little. It’s not so much the vibration. She’s a heavy saw and man handling it to make sure she don’t kick on me. Lots of torque and it would kick and with it being so cold I know my hand could slip. Has never happened but I’m always ready for it. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely wild that your boiler is over shooting temps by that much in this cold. She's such a beast. My little G4000 has been working overtime in these single digit temps.
Yeah it’s pretty crazy. When it’s warmer out I have the high temp only to about 178 or so especially if I don’t have a high demand on her. Otherwise yeah she will climb.
Love that saw. Would it be easier to just cut cookie slabs and toss them in or is that tree too round to fit in the door?
You can easily fit those into the boiler if I cut cookies. Only issues would be that they would just sit flat on top of one another and the airflow would be the greatest. But that’s not a bad idea
Fantastic noodle job on that huge cherry. It is absolutely amazing you can load the boiler with those huge fresh cut cherry chunks and they will burn. Keep the video's coming Matt.
Yeah the boiler absolutely love those rounds. It’s kind of amazing how well it handles the fresh cut wood. As long as I have a good coal bed it burns very well.
I cut rounds from time to time an inch or two thick back in the day but those blocks are the perfect size.
Yeah they are perfect for the boiler and somewhat easy to handle. Lots of rounds to cut and throw into the totes. But it’s all worth it.
Good job chunking up that large section 😊 Awesome saw 👍 Great content.
Thank you. Lots of work. But it needs to be done.
People will pay their rates while they are cheap enough. When it becomes so expensive that it makes sense to put in the work to provide your own people will do what they have to do. If it gets so expensive electrically that it makes sense to put up your own power generation people will start to do that more and more as well to the detriment of the power company that relies on your funding to keep their infrastructure running.
You are 100% correct. I wish times would go back to the way they were 300yrs ago. People would actually stop being lazy and taking things for granted. Everyone needs a wake up call.
Pure determination.
Yep. When the demand is high. I have to do what I have to do.
you don't do anything half way. huge boiler, huge wood, huge saw. i like it!
Oh yeah. Go big always. I always say go over board and you can always make use of what it can offer. Because eventually you will put it to the max as well. I out grow all my equipment.
Good morning Matt Wow on doing that noodling job on that big wood ! From what I was seeing I'm thinking that if you have the older popular wood splitter that is a combination vertical and horizontal ! Pull it behind your Quad and make pretty good job of splitting the big rounds ! If you don't have one it probably wouldn't cost much to pick up a used one !!!! I had a LOL on keeping the New Tape Measure away from the boys !! Yes on wanting them to learn...but like you said they are using the old stye ones ! That's amazing that your boiler actually will burn that wet wood !! Hope your day went well !😊
I could definitely take the big rounds and split them with the vertical/horizontal splitter. But then I would have to man handle the rounds and I hate doing that especially big heavy locust. That’s why I just rip them with the saw. And yeah my boys touch everything I do and I help teach them what I know that way when they get older they can be a big help.
@Treestofirewood Good on teaching the kids...part of having kids if you wanna do a good job ! Here is a LOL on using a vertical splitter...have the splitter down hill from the rounds !😁
That is some AWESOME boiler wood size. Take the noodles and toss them in the boiler too.
I wish all my boiler wood was that size. Stacks nice in the boiler and burns perfectly. I would throw that stuff in the boiler but I’d have some good sparks coming out the stack. At night it’s like firefly’s in the night sky. Haha
Speaking of klin do you have a video on it? Looking to make one or buy one. No one is doing it my area and wondering if I can get kiln firewood to sell in my area. Thankbyou. Great video!
Yeah I have a whole video series on it. Check it out.
Very nice job!!!
Thank you
My dad always liked burning red oak. It was a good day in the woods when we would find a dead leaner and could cut it up and it would go right into the basement. Made the whole house smell so good.
Yeah red oak is a huge score. Smells good and burns great. Great coals and long burn times.
Man we are burning honey locust right now and that stuff I think is better than oak! Sure warms the house up nice. That 881 is a beast👍👍
Locust does have a better btu rating. But oak just smells better. I don’t mind locust at all. Just don’t get a whole lot of it. And yeah I use that saw when it comes to big wood. Less work but more fuel. Trade off is worth it.
Nice use of the wood from your tree job 🪚🔥
Everything gets used. No waste. We make the best out of everything.
Yeah cutting and splitting in the colder temps. Went back to basics and split a facecord by hand last weekend. Kinda felt good. Cold weather really doesn't bother me. The wood split very easy. Have a good one!
Yeah I don’t mind it. And yeah the wood just pops. That’s how I feel when I do some resplits on the standalone splitter. It’s fun and it’s a change of pace. What’s your normal machine?
@Treestofirewood I have a splitfire 2265. I primarily cut wood for myself but with all the oak wilt, I been trying to keep up with all the dead trees. Everyone around me sells wood so it's been hard to make any sales.
Sales will come trust me. When they start pouring in because you sell a quality product you won’t be able to keep up.
I know the feeling of running low on wood. Did that for the first 2 years and man it sucked. I know you’ll get through this winter. Deff hard first year with new machine but you’ll know more on what you need after this year! Keep it up brother!
Yeah man I really wasn’t sure how much wood I needed for this winter. I had an idea but I also didn’t really stock pile my own wood like I normally do. Plus kiln is still running. So next year I will make sure I have boiler wood everywhere. Haha
That firebox is huge - - you ever think of throwing all those sticks you had in your burn pit in your boiler. Probably not worth that many BTUs, but if you have no wood, every BTU counts.
I did a lot of that the other day. For how much goes in you get honestly like no BTU’s. But I do keep some around for when the coal bed gets low. Really helps get the fire going good.
@@Treestofirewood yea didn't know if it was worth it, probably really smoky in your building too. I burn sticks in mine, but I deal on a much smaller scale than you
