For most of my drinking life I believed it helped me to socialize, relax, be less bored etc.. since I have placed a priority on my health Brain and body…And worked on my skills to be a better all around person..I have discovered that actually alcohol hinders my abilities…so why do I need it? There is less and less need to self medicate over problems that exist less and less..it’s a poison anyway a known cancer caused and literally makes you dumb…I easily pass these days ..however it does take action..take action..all the best to everyone.

I am not an alcoholic as such, but tend to binge drink an awful lot in one sitting (double the average) as I cannot stop once I have one drink. Is this a form of alcoholic?

day 31 for me today, 8th of Feburary, after starting from 9th January because I was on vacation. No intention of drinking any time soon but I have a night out planned with friends at the end of the month and whilst I have had no problem abstaining so far the question arises can I manage 2-3 beers without reverting to 5-6 + and wine with the meal?

Drink only twice a week or less - no more than 5 drinks in a single day. I love drinking with friends so didnt want to quit. But was using alcohol for bad/tired days and I felt like I was slipping into bad habits (plus financial and health cost of drinking too often). Balance is key for me.

I joined AA. It made me uncomfortable. Normally, I drink relatively moderately. I binge during alone time without work and structure or during holidays, absences due to vacation as I have cptsd . I recognized this pattern and noticed that's the only criteria for serious binges. Now I buy 1 16 oz beer at a time. If I catch myself doing more than skimming a 2nd one, I dump it out and have to pay for the waste. 1.5-2 drinks is enough for me and not enough to persecute me for the rest of my life. As a note, the sobriety programs really terrified me. They also don't excuse trauma related binges to black out to pain or replays of abuse in the back of my mind but I **do**. I couldn't understand not feeling sorry for myself. I've already had enough tough love ❤ and black and white thinking. I am a gray thinker and not a perfectionist and excuse these excuses as ok. Dumping out the rest seems to be working. It's a workaround for me that works so far. Now that's I've identified it, I'm consciously aware of my "illness", the devastating effects of a binge and isolation and never want the situation repeated. I've lost jobs I loved, ridden in ER vehicles, parted with beautiful pets I love, had schizophrenic type outbursts... at that, I will not go completely dry as I think it is a fundamentalist life with too much change in thought patterns, lifestyle and it caused more grief and disillusionment leading to another binge. People don't change overnight without shock and disabling confusion. Everyone is different. Being mindful & aware is working better for me as I don't function in other situations.

I feel like AA is for people who have lost so much to drinking - lost their jobs or partners or have become physically addicted. So many people just misuse alcohol a bit and need to get on a healthy lifestyle

Clicked on the ad to see how much of a con-artist-addict-profiteer I assumed it to be. However, unless I’ve been a biased fool this company, in my opinion, could be one of the next steps in modern middle level alcoholism treatment. Accepting that drinkers are going to drink, relapse, or binge even after a full stint at 30 days+ however many years of repeated rehab with medically assisted cold turkey isn’t working very well, and has never fully worked. Obviously there are some addicts who need to stop immediately or they will die, but I feel like pushing younger, healthier, drinkers towards guided moderation instead of taking away a massive part of their life is at least a possibly better solution than the 1930s Stock Broker Jesus Booze Book. This company Won’t solve addiction by any means, as it’s clearly unsolvable, but it might extend both the life and quality of life of us genetically doomed dopamine fiends and I guess that’s the goal. This might be one of the only ads I can throw my support behind and it feels really fucking strange.

My biggest thing is never to drink alone only socially. That cut my drinking from a daily thing to something I do every few weeks or on vacation. Trying to quit completely only made me think about alcohol 10 times more all day long
