What a full year of progress looks like as a Youtuber

Follow me on Twitter Coward 👉: Dagger64471102
For a lot of people, becoming a youtuber is a dream job. Getting to play video games for a living? Who wouldn't want that? But very few people ever get to make it a career. Over the past year, I've been lucky enough to reach a position where youtube has become my job, and now that I've been doing it for a year, I figured this would be a great time to recap my first year of progress as a youtuber. In just a full year, My videos have gone from the absolute bottom of the barrel to reaching view counts as high as 400,000 so its easy to say my first year of youtube has been an absolute roller coaster.
I started out making videos on retro games such as crash team racing and punch out however a year ago my editing skills were pathetic and thus the videos suffered many common issues beginner youtubers tend to have.
In this video Dagger outlines both the flaws of his earlier videos and the easiest ways to avoid these problems for yourself, From unbalanced audio levels, to poor mic quality there's a lot to learn from in Dagger's first year of videos.
However even through these issues, Dagger managed to find success early on with his video titled “The world of Awful horror games” which reached over thirty thousand views. And persistent to reach even higher number he continued to make progress with each video improving his skills.
However from here he learned that one big video doesn't guarantee you any more, and Dagger talks in depth about how frustrating UA-cam can be when all of your videos flop, especially after seeing what it's like to succeed.
But after months of struggling Dagger finally made enough progress to try to make a video essay with his largest video to date “ Why gaming doesn't feel the same anymore” his best performing video in his first year of youtube. After failing again and again, finally breaking out with a massive video, Dagger was faced with a massive decision to make. Would he continue with his old style? Or perhaps keep making the video essays which netted him 400,000 views
Instead of choosing between them, Dagger decided to attempt to hybridize the two formats resulting in “Is balance healthy for video games” his only removed video in his first year of youtube. Dagger openly talks about the failures of this video and the problems with trying to combine two completely different styles.
However after repeated failures Dagger finally broke through with yet another huge video “I played the worst Wii games ever made”. This video symbolized a return to form with all the added knowledge from videos prior, all of Daggers progress has lead to this one video. And thankfully for him it resulted in yet another video with above 6 figures.
Then After all that, Dagger gives away his secrets to his video making process, detailing everything he learned in his first year as a youtuber.

4 months late but I'm 26 and I would say every single thing I despise about modern gaming had it's inception in the 7th Generation, not really hot take for anyone that was entering their adolescence when the ps3 and 360 hit shelves with their HD capabilities. Graphics became an obssession by game studios, fps shooters where completely inescapable. Every fucking game had an ugly af brown sepia filter to make it look gritty (and optimize bad frame rates). Because developers wanted their games to cross platform we'd have all sortts of stupid situation where games and their dlc gets locked to specific consoles. Yearly game releases for open world games that barely did anything to improve over previous games. The PS3 was expensive and such a pain in the ass for developers to make games on that we didn't basically most of the memorable franchises on that console didn't get released until towards the end of its cycle. Overall if you got to experience the gems of the ps2 and Gamecube the 7th generation really was the worst era of gaming. And every thing we hate about the current game landscape lead back to that generation.

Microtranstions, SBMM, Cringe, lack of community servers, much less support for modding, lazy writing, making games too accessable in the expense of challenge, live service, focus on cosmetic content, out of touch developers, "release now-fix later", and the worst of all LOADS OF WOKE PROPAGENDA ! Honeslty cs:cz against bots feels a better game than most AAA released today.

On the rock and roll game you had to walk into the teleporter from the side it has "doors" on either side. A quick UA-cam search would have shown you that. If you're going to make a video about something, try to get the facts straight. Do better kid

Im 34 and my first console is the Super Nintendo. Gaming changed during Call of Duty 4 and MW2. It became more multiplayer than single player experience. Then Fortnite BR came out and it changed the whole landscape when people realized gaming can be a huge endeavor with celebrities and marketing. Then companies started milking their consumers. Games aren't made from passion anymore, just profit.

🚨 *The main reason gaming feels boring now is the overwhelming abundance and easy access to games.* 🚨 In the early 2000s, acquiring games required effort, like traveling across the city to buy a CD or DVD. With the rise of affordable internet, we can now download any game instantly. If a game doesn't impress us quickly, we move on to another one. Additionally, modern gaming PCs have huge storage capacities, unlike the limited 40GB hard drives of the past, allowing us to store countless games. This limitless selection creates confusion and reduces the time we spend enjoying any single game.

Age 47, never had a console, grew up with arcade games at shops. Mostly playing smaller indie games these days, also enjoy open world base building games plus strategy games (RTS). Reputation grind and other grinding plus totally unfair game mechanics really annoy me. Also very linear games. Many games now are simply PvP where it is two teams against each other. There are far too many of those. Every year yet another Modern Warfare or Call of Duty or some soccer game. Many AAA titles are just simply not fun to play and just have become tedious and work. If I want to work, I can go to work and get paid for it rather. Since I cannot afford the latest hardware and have a huge backlog of games in Steam, I am not bothering to buy expensive games. The occasional cheap small game will do. Some games try to be noticed by adding dragons which is also overdone. What also needs to stop is this blending of multiple different franchises for skins and similar which looks out of place.

"Motion controls suck". Look I get this is probably meant to be hyperbole because of bad Wii games but to say all motion is bad is a bit much when gyro is proof that it was always good but was used the wrong way. Motion isn't the problem, it's how these shovelware devs chose to approach these titles.

When I was a little kid, my uncle brought his Wii and his few games to a family gathering. I really wanted to play one game with promising cover art, but he refused - I cried and screamed, but he didn’t budge. That game was Ninjabread Man… I owe my uncle a great debt.

It's not really gaming that changed, it's AAA gaming. I grew up around the era of PS2 game. But a notable shift in the industry happened around the democratization of online play. Before internet, designing games for enjoyement was the best ways to earn money and the norm, entering a golden age with PS2/Xbox. Then in the early days of fast internet, we reached the peak of golden age AAA gaming with PS3 and Xbox360 since the industry still retained its policies; sadly the shift happened around the end of 3rd gen era. With the raise of mobile gaming and their microtransaction which then infected the AAA scene culminating in the development of live service game so here we are now. Modern games aren't made to be enjoyed, they are made to be ADDICTIVE.

I’m actually gamer but I’m actually really angry with gaming stuff because people don’t have internet access and connection in areas where living at, it’s actually really fun and relaxing but what they did right now is far beyond experiences, mostly people don’t have funds getting their stuff what’s really need, I really want to stay a lot very words in my vocabulary too, Games companies needing figuring out play games rightfully so people can joy and stuff too.

I’m 34, born in 89 and I’ve been playing games as far back as I remember. I had a nes, snes, ps1, n64, ps2, Xbox, Xbox 360, ps4 and now I just have a series x that I mostly only play in the winter when work slows down. The problem with games is that they stopped innovating and things have reached their peak. There hasn’t been any need to redesign controllers as they pretty much got it right with the 360 and control schemes in games haven’t needed to change. I remember playing cod 4 for the first time and the controls felt so good and fast forward to today and it’s still the same. The series x is really powerful but it just feels like an upgraded 8th gen console for the most part. It used to be that next gen meant new experiences that were not possible before and now it just means higher resolution, higher frame rate, faster loading times, a better experience for sure but nothing new.
