Maroon Peak, Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, Aspen, Colorado
We climbed Maroon Peak via the standard South Ridge route starting from Maroon Lake trailhead. The Maroon Peak is one of the most difficult 14ers to climb due to loose terrain and route finding challenges. Together with its sister peak North Maroon Peak, they have earned the nickname "the Deadly Bells" due to a number of climbing fatalities over the years. One can keep the difficulty at class 3 if one manages to stay on-route. We did that for the most part, but had to resort to a few class 4 moves to go over more solid rocks instead of negotiating with loose scree. We went up second gully and came down via the 1st, and found both gullies equally loose and somewhat dangerous. Overall it was a hard climb but views along the way more than made up for it. The bear sighting at the end was icing on the cake. Total stats: 12.5 miles with 5000ft elevation gain

Father Dyer Peak and Crystal Peak, Tenmile Range, Colorado

My solo climb of 13er Father Dyer Peak (13,615’) via its class 3 east ridge, and traverse to nearby Centennial Crystal Peak (13,859’), in the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge, Colorado. The east ridge of Father Dyer has just enough spice to make it exciting and the difficulty never exceeds class 3. Crystal Peak summit has expansive views of mountains in the Tenmile and Sawatch Range. Overall thi...

This has been my most anticipated trip of this summer, a 4-day/3-night backpacking trip to the Chicago Basin of Weminuche Wilderness in the heart of San Juan Mountains. My solo jaunt up McHenrys Peak on July 27, 2027. McHenrys Peak is a prominent 13er located in the magnificent Glacier Gorge area of Rocky Mountain National Park. Its summit sees few visitors per year due to complicated route finding and unforgiven terrain, yet it boasts one of the best summit view of the entire park. On this occasion I went up to the Stone Man formation via a solid, easy class3...

We summited popular Front Range 14er Torreys Peak via class 3 Kelso Ridge, which rises about 2000ft in 1 mile. Compared to the standard route which I used to summit Grays/Torreys a few years ago, this route is much more fun, as it offers lots of scrambling opportunities, including several engaging class 3 sections. When I lived in Colorado, I never climbed near Aspen. Going up Maroon Peak with you was very interesting. Nice views of the surrounding area. Lots of loose rock! That robot does look like the original Capel robot. Nice bear getting its greens. As I get older, my brain does auto-fill. I initially read "2800 feet in 1.5 miles" as "2800 feet in 1.5 minutes." That would be motoring!

Congratulations on summiting a difficult peak…but you always make it look easy! You capture the demanding and challenging terrain perfectly. Regarding the difficult route finding: Were there insufficient cairns to guide you to the peak? But with that much rock cairns can be hard to spot. Thanks for another exciting adventure video. P.S. Your verbal commentary was helpful in understanding the challenges you faced.

Thanks for the great video. Wonderful music, too. Brings back memories of about 15 years ago when I did this right around my 59th birthday. I've seen this called easy 5th class, but I didn't think it was that hard----- just a very long day. And a very beautiful day, too. Thanks Vickie. I’m using an old DJI mini 2 drone I bought a few years ago but haven’t used it as much as I like, primarily because I hike mostly in NP or wilderness areas. Also i only fly it if there is no one else around even if it’s legal to fly. When I do fly it is pretty fun and I like the footage it captures (my most viewed video from Utah has lots of drone footage). I have a couple of favorite license-free composers (Scott Buckley, Punch Deck) that I can choose from, complimented with other music I like from UA-cam Audio Library. It is time consuming but also a lot of fun. Pacific Peak is still on my to-do list. Want to combine that with a trip to Pacific Tarn

There are sustained class 3 sections and can go up to class4 or higher if not on route. You can try getting up to Stone Man using the route I suggested in this video and see how you feel. After that you can decide if you want to tackle the next challenge (getting up to the notch or keyhole) which only leaves you a couple of hundred ft from summit. Good luck

Thanks Vickie. Love the Sangres. Probably my second fav range after the San Juans. Plan to go back in the fall and bag some more peaks. Willow Lake is stunning, you will love it. Late Aug/Sept probably the best time to go with cooler weather and less bugs

Great video and congratulations on bagging those peaks. We’re hanging out in the Sangres this month then to Durango. Looks like we’re following you 😊.

Hey guys. Would have been lovely to run into you guys. My wife and I love your channel and we watch every episode of yours together on big screen tv. She is into RV/van life and I’m into hiking/mountain climbing. Retirement is not too far away for us

@@rugged9769 You both are so kind. I'm so happy you both have enjoyed our hiking videos. It's been a dream of mine for more than two years. I love hiking so much that I wanted to share all the beauty among the mountains. My videos from 2023 are not very good. I was just learning how to film but I've learned from my mistakes. We just got back from a backpacking trip to Gibraltar Lakes in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. I sprained my ankle pretty bad on the hike out. So many people stopped to help but I was determined to hike out on my own to see how bad the injury is. Hopefully it's all better in week. Tell your wife thank you from us. I've enjoyed your channel too. Cheers, to many more adventures for all of us.

What a wonderful climb in a very interesting range. Willow Falls and Lake are a nice bonus. Thanks!

Absolutely superb videography throughout! Regarding mosquitos: I believe Nick Sangetta burns citronella to ward off bugs.

Thanks. I sprayed all over my cloths to keep them off. The Sangres seem to have the worst bugs in July compared to other ranges. Just got back from San Juans and there was not nearly as many bugs there

Great video from the summit. I like that pic of Longs with clouds rolling. Hey, on your ascent, did you bypass Orton to the right or left? Id rather skip it to save my legs. 😊

Thanks. I summited Orton on my way up but bypassed it to the right on the way down. You can skip it on hiker’s left on your way up

Incredible climb and video. Thanks for taking me along. The knife edge looks like great practice for Capitol Peak.

I enjoy watching these more challenging hikes that require some skill to complete. Gorgeous early morning sky/ridge scenery at 0:41. P.S. I think more verbal commentary would be a big improvement to your videos.

A friend and I have started putting up some trad routes here and are hoping to do some bolting with the permission of the county and park. We're calling it "Corny-copia", which can be found on mountain project. If anyone has any info about previous climbing here, we'd love to hear it!
