Great information on working with a gourd. Thank you. I haven’t touched my gourds for several years and maybe need to get back to it. I have a lot of gourds from Welburn gourd farm and ones I have grown myself. The ones from Welburn are very thick. What do you use for the inside of your gourds? Hearts and Flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
What ink do you use? It's beautiful.
Thank you, it is not ink though. It is done with pyrography, a wood burning tool.
Wow! Thank you!!!
Good job. Got some guords dried and starting to clean then, noway can I get them like yours. Again Good job
Thanks! It takes time but you will get there with practice!
beautiful
Thank you! I really appreciate and enjoy your videos!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Wow! Great artistic expression
Amazing work, really well made and explained!
What a wonderful tutorial, well explained and executed. I really appreciate you sharing this Jenn
Thanks so much 😄 I'm so glad you found it helpful! 🙏🏼
I’m so glad this was recommended to me. I’ve never heard of this art form but now I’m intrigued. I’ve got a butternut squash in my fridge, a wood burner in my closet, and a whole lotta temptation in my soul🙂↕️
😅haha! Eat the squash it will be delicious! Give it a try (once you get the right kind of gourd, that is!) 👍👍👍
I would love to see the gourd with the deer after it's finished!
Your tips are great! Thanks.
Great Tips... Thank you
Thank you that was very helpful. My question is what air filter would you recommend? A table top, quiet one. Thanks again Rose
I cannot really recommend one there are many out there and I have only tried the one I got so cannot compare with others. The one I have is by Blueair you can get it on amazon. It is pretty quiet on the lower speeds. There are smoke extractors on the market especially for pyrography that may work better but I have not tried them. It really depends on your needs.
So cute!
Good morning, Beautiful work. I would like to know where you bought that round burr for cleaning the inside of the gourd? I need one. Thank you.
Thank you! They are called "easy cleaner ball" and available through Welburn Gourd Farm. You can also find them other places online if you do a search.
@ Thank you so much! Blessings!!!!
How do you know how much thread to start with?
I work with about 2 arms length - but really you just find how much you can comfortable work with.
What paint do you use?
I used transparent acrylics, in layers.
@ thank you
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Having done some gourd art in the past, I have long been a fan of your art. I am curious about what the final sandpaper grit you use when smoothing the surface. Thanks, Ray in Oklahoma.
Thanks, Ray! I typically use a 400 - 600 grit sandpaper if the surface needs it. Sometimes I do not sand at all, but every gourd is different.
😀
We love using pine needles for bowl rims. This is beautiful
Love your work!
Thank you 😄
Your videos are the best! Your explanations are clear and concise. The lighting and videography are perfect. I also like that you edit your videos so we have all the important information without having to watch every stitch. I don’t live in an area where gourd art is known so I don’t have classes available to me. Your videos are the next best thing. Thank you so much Jen.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! 🙏🏼 I'm so glad that my videos have been helpful! 😄
Beautiful!
Thank you!😄
What Pyro bit r u using? Heat setting? Great video...
The pyrography pen is an Optima bent spear shader. Heat setting varies, but I generally burn on a low to medium setting. I rarely push the dial past 5.
You thought this so clearly, I appreciate you for this nice and clear video.. Thanks for the wonderful artistic video❤
Thank you so much!
Thank you for making it easy to understand. The woman that teaches the class at our Resort in Yuma AZ just past away 2 weeks ago. She was 1 week from turning 86 😢 and was teaching gourd class, ceramic class, & pottery. She taught me to make a Thunder Gourd last year. I really wanted to learn this kind of bowl this year. She was a beautiful and wonderful and a kind friend also. I think Maggie guided me to you. So, thank you so much.❤
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. 🙏🏼 It sounds like she was a special person. I hope you find the joy in learning this technique.
I commented in another video about coiling using string then realised you’ve made a video about it….brilliant!! 😁
What a beautiful addition, and very well explained! I’m definitely going to try this, but I’m wondering whether I could use a natural cordage instead of needles as I don’t have access to long needles. Now of to watch some of your other videos!
Yes, absolutely! You can use any material you like using this technique. I do have a video on coiling with fiber/paper rush just insert coiling material of choice ua-cam.com/video/FE78t4ezwsg/v-deo.html
Congrats! Your new studio floor and space looks great!

Looks great.
Thank you! 😊
It looks great!! Love the color of the new floor and your work area is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! ☺️
It looks fabulous! How exciting to have it done! I love it and also how you had to get the "last word" on the fiddle! 😂. Thanks for sharing all your talents with us!
Thank you! 😊 It's great to have it all set up now. I do love my fiddle time with my daughter! 🎻💕
Incredible transformation!! You have an amazing space to work and what an AMAZING and gifted family you have. Totally talented. Floor work is so hard on the back and knees, hoping you are taking it super easy for a bit.
Thank you so much! 😊 we wore knee pads so that wasn’t too bad- but my legs from squatting and getting up were sore for a few days!
Looks lovely. Any change can give new inspiration. I love it!
Thanks so much! I am hoping it does inspire me too 😊
Enjoy your lovely room
This could have been about 1/10th this long.
Finished products are amazing!
Thank you for this well done and very informative video. It was great.
Thank you for your comment! 😄 Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome!! Thanks!!
Awesome!! Thank you!!
What burner are you using?
I am using a BurnMaster with an Optima spear shader.
I took the butterfly course. Very nicely done and easy to follow.
Awesome! Thank you so much Sande 😊
You made this so clear. I really appreciated that you always made sure that there was good lighting in your working area and very good angles for the viewers. You cleared up many of my questions with your clarity. You are a gift. Thank you!
Thank you so much Theresa 😊😊😊
Carolina wrens are very curious and fun to watch. Unfortunately they will try to nest almost anywhere!
